Cruise Compass Day 1

I know they didn't end up going through with a lot of the new features, but the Royal Caribbean website still shows Izumi as being on Majesty. Anyone have any idea if this was actually done? Going in June and was hoping to try the sushi.

Thanks for the report. We board tomorrow and thanks to your report we are looking forward to a lot of positives. ( I don't drink soda so the broken soda machine is not an issue.) Our last Royal Caribbean cruise was many years ago. It was so great of you to take the time to tell us about your trip.

I can't believe we didn't meet her until the last day. The stories she told us had us laughing hysterically. She's a gem!

I woke up at 6am, showered and packed. Stu is NOT a morning person, so I let him sleep while I went up to the Windjammer for some (flat) soda and to watch the ship pull into port. The kids met me for breakfast by 7:00 and Bri showed me a note that was left at their cabin door:

So, to avoid being held captive on the ship, she went to Guest Services to wait on the 30 minute line to pay her penny while the rest of us got ready to debark.

Being on Deck 3 made self debarkation very easy and we were through customs and waiting for our ride home by 8:15.

We loved our 4 day cuise on Majesty. She's got a lot of character and a great staff and crew. We will definately look to sailing her again soon since she's docked in our back yard for the foreseable future. This trip again confirmed for us that we enjoy smaller ships the most. It took three cruises, but I can honestly say that Royal Caribbean delivered this time!

Dinner's theme was Italian, a family favorite and the food was very good. One of the things that Ashton, our server, did all cruise was bring out an extra appetizer, dinner and dessert that no one at the table order. We loved this because it gave us all an opportunity to try something we normally wouldn't.

We lingered a bit after dinner to thank Ashton and Carla and say our goodbyes. The kids were tired and a little sunburnt, so they went back to the room for a nap before our last night activities. Stu and I went to look at our photos from the trip and play a bit in the empty casino with no luck.

We met the kids at the Starlight Lounge for Superstar Kareoke and Zoe, Val and I all had a chance to sing. We planned to stay for the Quest game (as we have tried on every RCI cruise) but we were just too tired. The kids stayed and we headed back to the cabin. We choose self debarkation each cruise, but it's sad to walk down the hallways and see all the luggage outside the cabins. I felt like the 4 days just blew by and I wasn't ready to go home yet.

Day 4 was Cocoa Cay. It was our first time at the island as we didn't make it on our first cruise with Royal due to ship maintenance. Stu and I are big fans of Half Moon Cay and were hoping to enjoy Cocoa Cay just as much. And we did.

We headed to the Windjammer for a bite to eat and the Coke Freestyle machines were working! Even though the soda was flat, I was able to get my morning dose. At 8:30, we walked downstairs and caught one of the first tenders to the island.

We got chairs right by the first beach since it looked like it was going to rain at any minute and while the girls ran off to explore, Stu, Matty and I relaxed. There were't many people on the island yet, so it was very quiet. The bars started to open, so Stu and I went off in search of a morning drink and he discovered his new favorite drink, a frozen Coco Loco:

I love that Royal Caribbean honors their drink package on their island. I actually love their beverage packages in general. (Carnival falls short in this area) We booked it prior to sailing during a 20% off promotion which made it a very good deal for us.

We met up with the kids just before lunch and Bri had found her new favorite drink as well:

Lunch was served at 11:30 - and we were STARVING! It was really good. My favorite was the pasta salad. The only issue was the birds. Well, not really the birds, but the people feeding the birds. There was a table of women at the table right behind us and they kept tossing food to the birds. After a few minutes of this, dozens of birds were hovering around the table and becoming very aggresive. I went over to their table and asked them to stop - something I don't normally do, and they wouldn't. My job requires me to have extreme patience with people, and I normally don't get ruffled, but this drove me bananas. But, it's my vacation, so instead of getting upset, we just moved.

The kids swam out to the dock while Stu and I soaked up some sun. The weather turned out to be perfect, but by 13:00, we were ready to leave the island. The kids stayed while we headed back to the empty ship to enjoy the pool and hot tub with our new buddies. We met Anthea, one of the bar servers on the pool deck and she kept us laughing for 2 hours. The kids made it back on one of othe last tenders and by 16:00, we began sailing towards Port Canaveral.

After dinner, I went back to the cabin to change. We headed to the pool deck to meet our new friends and watch a bit of Gods of Egypt. After a few drinks, we headed to the main theater for the Love and Marriage show - always a good time, and this one was the best. If you were on the same sailing, I'm sure you saw Frank and Lois at some point. They were adorable.

After the show, we stopped by the Schooner Bar for a drink. The bar servers there made the best drinks!

It had been raining off and on most of the night, but it cleared just in time for the Dance Under the Stars deck party. The Entertainment staff lead us in the usual dances and the DJ played on for awhile.

The girls and I headed back to our cabins around 1am to get some sleep before Cocoa Cay.

I'm literally the same way with my red bull. I don't drink coffee, but I need my red bull in the morning. Any chance you noticed if they had the Yellow tropical red bull anywhere? Not sure if they're going to let me bring it on but I guess I'll try.

 

It's funny, we're actually staying in exactly the same cabin as you. Why didn't you like the location? Just the anchor proximity? We don't really mind the cramped space, what we'll be doing while were in there won't require much room 😉😉😉😉 haha

The only red bull that I saw was on the beach at Cocoa Cay.

The only reason I didn't like the room was because it was at the very end of the hallway. Being the on Deck 3 was good though, we were close to everything.

Thank you for submitting a positive and realistic review! I am sailing the Majesty of the Seas on June 3 for a three night cruise and I have been apprehensive about what my experience would be like. I have previously sailed the Monarch and the Sovereign and I knew going in that the interior rooms are small. The details you provided alleviated some of my concerns and I am now really looking forward to our weekend get away. Again, thank you! SR

PS: I just returned from a fun filled three day trip to Disney and I look forward to the Food and Wine Festival in the fall.

Did you happen to see anyone having any luck on the slots?

We didn't spend much time in the casino, but we didn't see a lot of happy people at the slots. It was the smallest cruise ship casino I have seen and there were several slot that were out of order.

Do you have copies of the cruise compass for each day that can be posted?

I have them all and will post them at the end of the review for you.

Did they have a night where everyone dressed in white. I remember reading that in another RC ship.

They did. It was the 3rd night of the cruise. I didn't know this before hand, though and, judging by the attire of most of the people at the deck party, it wasn't widely known. It was in the Cruise Compass.

(And sorry mommabear2five, not trying to hijack your great review!)

Following - cant wait to hear about the tilt

After some shopping and a drink, we were back on a near empty boat in time for lunch and pina coladas.

We made plans to meet up at the Scooner Bar for triva at 16:30 and we all headed back to our cabins for a quick nap.

Trivia was fun and the bar service was excellent at the Scooner Bar as it was each time we were there. Stu and I met up for a drink with some friends we had made the night before and then we all headed to dinner.

I had the turkey dinner and it was very good.

And a some lemon meringue pie that was equally delicious.

And we were entertained by the wait staff and danced the Macarena.

Now on to day 3.

This was our first port day, Nassau. Like I said, we've been to Nassau more than a few times, but the kids hadn't. Our plan had been to go to the beach, spend some time in the straw market so the girls could shop and then grab a drink at Senor Frogs.

We woke up to a gloomy morning. Clouds, rain and lots of humidity. In five stops at Nassau (one of them for 3 days thanks to mechanical work on the Enchantment) I have never seen the sun shine in this port.

Instead of heading to the beach, we decided to have a relaxing breakfast and then just hit up the straw market after first crowds headed off the boat.

The kids headed to the pool while I headed to the gym to sweat out the last of my hangover.

While on the treadmill, I checked out the Norweigen Gem that was docked next to us. I noticed a man come out on to his balcony completly naked. NOT A STITCH OF CLOTHING. He proceeded to take a seat on his balcony and smoke what looked like a cigarette, all the while either not knowing he could be seen by us or not caring. Ah, cruise life...

After my work out and a quick shower, we met up and headed off the ship. It had started to rain, but it was light, so we snaped a few obligatory tourist photos and headed into port.

Majesty has something like Park Cafe (unless it got replaced in the renovation) on Deck 12 above Windjammer on the left. Good selection of paninis, a nice salad bsr, some soups, etc.

They had a deli in that area, next to Sorrento's pizza. We didn't try it or the Mexican restaurant as I tried to keep snacking to a minium this cruise. I didn't work, but I tried :rolleyes:

With the new TV/movie screen on the pool deck, did they show movies at night? That's one thing we love on Carnival ships.

Yes they did. They were playing Star Wars, Spongbob and Gods of Egypt and maybe another one or two. The audio and video were very good, but the way the deck is set up, the screen is blocked from most places on deck 11 due to the awnings over the hot tubs and the splash zone. There seems to be a better view from deck 12, but no cover if there is weather.

We're just off the Majesty yesterday. They advertised Voom - fastest internet at sea, but at times I couldn't even get those 1 minute videos on facebook to load.

It was nice because it was free and twice I was able to stream Netflix with little issue, but it's not what they are advertising. And it wasn't my devices; I have an iPhone 6+ and iPad Air 2.

Voom was also down a few times during the sailing. Maybe it's not fully operational yet.

Does anyone know if they have any children's picture books? Taking the small one in September, would be handy to not have to pack half the bookcase!

I remember a lot of children and teen books on the shelves from our March 2016 cruise, but I can't say for sure if there were any picture books specifcally.

I enjoyed sitting at the front chairs in library; it's a great place to people watch on the promenade.

I've been there too many times and to be honest, this trip was the last straw for us. I will never get off the ship there again. I'll elaborate later in my review!!

Same for us, we've been there 5 times and one of those times it was for 3 days. Done with it. It's a common port for us since we prefer to take multiple shorter cruises each year instead of one or 2 longer ones, but unless there's an excusion we want to take, from now on we will be staying on the ship.

I'm currently reading your review as well. We saw you guys (the ship actually, as I don't know you, haha) in Nassau. My mom and I commented on it being first run out of dry dock and hopefully going well!!

There were many ships in port that day, as usual in Nassau, and the weather was just terrible, as usual in Nassau, for us anyway. :cool:

Also, our beds on Majesty were just as hard as yours and there was nothing that could be done about it. I've never had such a hard time sleeping on a cruise ship.

After dinner, Stu and Matty both when back to the cabins to change (it's so hard to keep them in formal wear) and relax while the girls and I went to the casino. We planned to meet up at the Scooner bar before the adult comedy show.

We had fun, but no luck playing the slots, so we walked around the shops a bit before heading to the scooner bar. Seats at the piano opened up right away and soon we were singing along with Kelly, who was doing an Elton John/Billy Joel theme.

I love piano bars and Kelly was fantastic. The girls and I sang along until the guys showed up and we got good seats for the show.

The show was ok; I don't normally care watching for husband vs. wife humor with Stu because it can sometime spark a debate between us, but we were safe. After the show, it was time for bed as we were arriving in Nassau early and we had plans to go to the beach.

Great review. It looks like the family is having a blast. Speaking of "blast" -- Anger from Inside Out is hilarious for all the wrong reasons but definitely sums up your feelings regarding the pop issues.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. It was only such a big deal because I need my morning soda. Stu and the kids didn't mind as much.

Sometimes just.raising the bed frame allows the suitcase to slide under the frame. If not, open the suitcase and push under the bed.

 

While not as nice, I've also found splitting the bed gives more interior room - or at least it seems that way to me.

I never thought of opening the suitcase to fit it under - that would have worked. At least I know for next time - Thanks!

We just returned today and I've started my trip report. If we left late, I didn't notice and there were no issues that they shared with the us :)

It was a great trip and I would recommend her to anyone. What a happy little ship.
