My daughter and I are in a Royal Suite in two weeks. Had shoreside concierge contact us last week.

@pennys mumAssuming this is Silhouette out of Southampton? If so, would you be able to share the shoreside concierge's contact details (email or telephone number)? We are in an RS departing 30 Jul and have had no contact. Many thanks.

    Hi all.

I’m  asking as we’ve only cruised once before (with Royal Carribean) and got a bit mixed up with the dress code then, being more formal than the FAQs seemed to imply.
We are looking at a late deal in around a week’s time on Silhouette and noted the ‘evening chic’ dress code.  Does this apply as it is written on Med cruises?  I have a feeling the way it’s written is really for the US / Caribbean market, but do we take it at face value for a European cruise as well?

I’ll take my black tie,  but do I go and get my teen sons (15 and 18) suits (or at very least, jackets)?

    TIA

We will be on the same cruise as you I think. We will be “dressed up” for Evening Chic nights, and love seeing other families doing the same. Sort of makes it “special” Equally, if people want to be dress in a more relaxed way that’s fine too. Just do what makes you feel good.

Disregarding the food, the entertainment, the politeness of the staff, etc....did you feel safe that the crew were ready, willing, able and most importantly trained to deal with any major emergencies or safety issues that could arise?  (God forbid.)  We are thinking of booking the 2023 World Cruise with P & O but have noticed comments regarding the crew being eager to please but still not fully trained.  Have to say it is a bit concerning to us!

We have never sailed P & O before, so taking a World Voyage is a huge step on an unknown product to begin with...just want to make sure all of our concerns are as addressed as they can be.

Given you have never sailed with P&O before, if I was in your shoes I would want to do a short-ish cruise on the same ship or at least with P&O first before commiting to a world cruise. By short, I mean 7 days to avoid any “booze cruise” type vibes that occasionally occur on shorter cruises.

Just of my Celebrity cruise.  They said shortages but truthfully it's a perfect experience. All restaurants open and fully staffed. Turn down occurring, choccy on pillow etc. Room cleaned twice a day - we had 4 large towels every morning in case we shower again later.  Immaculate everywhere. I can not fault anything.  If this is short staff situation they are hiding it really well although 1600 guests may have helped.

Very interesting, thank you. Was this the Silhouette cruise to Ireland and Iceland that docked in Southampton this morning?

The ever fated Iona has a big delay on departure to the Fjords on Sat 18 June

Now departing at around 2.00am Sunday

That will mean a half day in Stavanger at best

Reason given as strong winds from an unusual direction in Southampton

Disappointing  for those on board but better safe than sorry. Were Ventura and MSC Virtuosa similarly affected today?

  6. Noting that disabled and able bodied travellers appear to be being treated identically, my question would be whether  reasonable adjustments been made in the treatment of disabled travellers. Particularly given the significant additional impact of a cabin move on a disabled traveller versus an able bodied traveller (ultimately resulting in a disabled traveller being unable to travel on the cruise). But I guess that only P&O can answer this question.

  7. My reading is that “reasonable adjustment” would need to be made by P&O in the application of any policy; including the policy of changing customers allocated cabins to accommodate potential isolation cases. I am making no assessment of whether P&O has made such reasonable adjustment. Nor am I a lawyer.

  8. Equality Act 2010

Traders and service providers must remove the barriers you face because of your disability so you can access and use their goods and services in the same way, as far as this possible, as someone who's not disabled. The Equality Act 2010 calls this the duty to make reasonable adjustments

  9. Disability Discrimination Act 1995

    • Since 1 October 2002, service providers have had to make 'reasonable adjustments' for disabled people, such as providing extra help or making changes to the way they provide their services.

Am thinking of getting a dining package (for 4 or 5 nights).  This would bring the price per meal down (although I appreciate I may then miss out on any "on board discounting" that may arise).

    Any thoughts ?

We did a 7 night dining package on a Norway cruise on Silhouette in 2019. Really enjoyed it, loved the variety and would recommend. I didn’t go out of my way to find out if there were discounts available for the speciality restaurants when on board ship, but weren’t offered any either!
