  1. Gorgeous dress!

The shoes are gorgeous too, but perhaps not with that dress? Are you very comfortable in high heels for an entire evening? I would also worry about the sequins on the back of the shoes possibly catching on the hem of the dress, pulling the fabric and spoiling it, or even tripping you up. Not worth the risk as the shoes won't be that visible.

I would suggest a pretty mid heeled sandal in perhaps gold or silver, to peep prettily from the the hem of the dress? A wedge heeled court could be more flattering than a ballerina pump, but I would go for a dark colour or metallic look, rather than nude.

If you are tempted by the shoes, treat yourself to a shorter dress, or ballerina length, to show them off!

I'm actually more comfortable in heels than flats. Great point about the ornament possibly catching the hem, I thought about that myself so you validated that concern. Thanks for "voting" on whether I should wear dark heels or nude. I love the look of black with navy blue, but also love the elongating look of nude heels. I think you are right, dark would be better in this case. Thanks!

  2. Both beautiful. I'd wear the shoes (if I could still wear heels) with a short flirty hem dress to really show them off! Love the dress but it'd be too warm for me.

Thank you for the suggestion. I love over-the-top heels, but mostly in colder climates (ankle swelling) so maybe I'll go ahead and buy them for a future land based event where edema doesn't seem to be an issue and could wear a shorter dress, or even ankle pants, where you could see the shoes. With a great coat over the top for trips between buildings and vehicles! Thanks for keeping me real!

  3. That's awesome. You obviously had some serious play time and high betting. What game did you play? If tables, avg bet and time? Only asking to see how consistent they are in giving points.

I've been a CR member for many years and they've taken away or reduced our benefits so much. Last couple of cruises- I got a comp inside but compared to what i used to get previously for the same play and same betting (roulette) its less than before. The next cruise I checked with the host the last night and they had my avg bet less than HALF of what it actually is! I bet consistently minimum $75! Play the same numbers every spin. They said they would verify with pit boss and correct it. When I got back- and called - they didn't change it and I got ZERO offer or cert on that cruise. Luckily I won $400 so I didn't care but that made me think the PREVIOUS they probably shorted me on my avg bet (I never did check to see what they had me down for). So not only am I getting screwed not even getting kissed lol.

So next week I will be all over the pit bosses to show them my bets and make sure they get it correct! It's frustrating.

We play slots and were in the casino a few hours every night betting max on a good number of the spins. What happened to you sounds like what happened to us on Princess. I hope they get it straightened out for you. After moving over to Royal Caribbean we are shocked at the better comps and treatment we have received over the Princess casinos.

  4. Congrats on those. If you would not mind a few questions....

How many points did you have to accumulate to receive those offers?

Which ship/ships did you sail on?

What were you playing slots, table games, etc.

Thanks so much for any extra info you can provide and good luck on the upcoming cruises.

I don't know how many points, we were on Liberty of the Seas and we play slots. At the end of the 7 day cruise we were both provided with cruise certificates for a balcony - and the offers have continued coming via email and snail mail ever since. We were in the casino daily and I think the trick was we bet max on the spins. Depending on the machine that was usually between $2.00 and $5.00 per spin. The machines are tight, but they did pay enough back to actually play -- they never just took our money after a few minutes. I hit a $2,800 jackpot on a $2.25 spin on one of the machines; that was fun!

  5. Beautiful dress/gown and the shoes are lovely, this is only my opinion, you'd not be able to see the beauty of that particular shoe with a long dress. You asked, hope this helps.

Excellent point. Thank you and I am taking that into consideration. I guess they could be a little surprise peeking out every now and then while walking, but that would not help me to enjoy them since I would not be able to see them. I need long gowns because my ankles tend to swell in tropical climates so they help hide the cankles. I guess I am a sucker for a pretty shoe, but I do need to face the reality that they often don't look that pretty on me once the swelling kicks in. I'm so torn.... ;)

  6. I am getting this dress for an upcoming cruise and am thinking of getting these shoes.... I'm wondering if the shoes have too much "bling" to add to the sequin gown. Do you think the velvet helps balance the look or should I stick with a basic, but beautiful, pair of black or nude pumps? What say you, beautiful cruisers?

  7. Any comments from Galveston area/Interstate 45 area residents on the present availability of gas, food, other accommodations? I'm on Liberty of the Seas now and returning to Dallas I'm aware of the Houston road condition website. Can't remember how much gas I have in the tank

Don't know about gas stations although the Galveston Newspaper is maintaining updates of road closures, power outage areas, etc. and there may be something useful to you in the future. Also the Port of Galveston just posted this on island accommodations for displaced cruise passengers should you find yourself stuck on the island when you are able to disembark, or for any of us who may be stuck there waiting to embark.

Hurricane Harvey Cruise Rates from Galveston Hotels in the event any cruises cancel.

The Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to offer the attached discounted rates to any displaced cruise passengers. These rates are only valid in the event of a cancellation and may require a minimum length of stay and boarding pass documentation.

  8. For those choosing to board the Liberty whenever it does dock, and who are driving like us, I hope you might find these links helpful in determining your route to Galveston. I will be keeping a close eye on them if we drive down we will alter our route as needed.

  9. We are driving 7 hours to get the port at Galveston for the Liberty cruise on Sunday. At this point, we are just watching closely and will make the decision tomorrow whether to slowly head south. I'm thinking we won't be departing on Sunday so have no plans on driving into Houston to become part of the problem of drivers getting stranded on flooded roads. We can enjoy ourselves north of the coast, and if the Liberty is cleared to sail on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, we will be there (if roads allow) and enjoy our shortened cruise. Bummer is we were supposed to be doing a back to back on this one but needed to cancel the first half due to work changes. We would have been one of the passengers possibly "stranded" at sea awaiting our safe delivery to the port .....and it wouldn't have mattered because we wouldn't be getting of until the 3rd anyway! Wishing safe travels to all, no matter where you are, on sea or on land.

  10. regarding the pin..... Does it operate like the Andrew's card...default to chip and sign and then to chip and pin if signature is not available? So many cards do have pin availability....but they are for cash advances....at high interest rates. I went to the Barclay's website and it isn't really clear on this.

We recently hobbled through a Baltic cruise with relying on ATMs and what CC's we had (some chip and sign some mag strip) but I could tell the US is on their last legs with their outdated technology.

Yes, it defaults to chip + signature where that is the technology in use, but also then defaults to chip + pin where required.

  11. If you are talking about the Barclay Arrival Plus card, there is an $89 annual fee, although they are waiving it for the first year (at the moment).

The regular Barclay Arrival card does not offer chip + pin technology.

So...it doesn't quite meet all my criteria.

You're right, I went back and read your original post and totally missed your "no annual fee" requirement when I read it the first time. :( Sorry about that! But my Arrival Plus is definitely chip + pin, mine is all set up, and the rewards program is hands down the best I have. Good luck on your search!

  12. I am from Alaska and have been to Seward more times than I can count (one of my favorite places on the planet). It's a beautiful drive from Anchorage, but if you aren't interested in stopping, nothing beats the train. Stunning. I very highly recommend you go that route as opposed to being stuck on a bus!

  13. Like others have already said, there a few online stores that can ship the beer for you - but while you are up there maybe consider buying some of the labels to send your son. Alaskan breweries put out some beautiful labels - my brother even had some nicely matted and framed because they were so unique! We grew up in Alaska so there was some nostalgia there, too I guess.....
