  1. After climbing, we headed over to the trampoline. This is an attraction for both kids and adults, but mostly kids do it. The jumper is harnessed around the waist and attached to bungee cords that are up high, and then you jump on a trampoline. The bungee cords are pulled tight above you, so between the cords and the tramp, you can jump REALLY high. There is a minimum weight of 40 lbs (I think) which our son met...however he's really, really lean so the waist harness was not tight all the way. The rec staff person noticed this and asked me if I still wanted to let him jump....I said yes, and he said that he would allow him to jump, but that he would not be allowed to do flips. That was fine with me, but nice that he thought to both check and ask the parent how to proceed (if he couldn't have jumped it would have been a really, really sad afternoon on the ship for him). He jumped and loved it. And I loved watching him.

Thank you very much for this information. We will be cruising with our 6 year old in October who has already seen video of this and placed it high on his list of activities. Unfortunately, he is a REALLY skinny 6 year old and only weighs 37lbs. I'm glad I can let him know in advance that he will probably not be able to participate- saves him the in-the-moment frustration (i.e. tears avoided:D).

Looking forward to the rest of your review!!

edited to add: sorry, not sure why the quote is showing up that way:(

  2. Are you slightly worried with all the new changes that your "great" deal won't be so great by the time your cruise comes along with all the new changes and upcharges? We are long time cruisers but new to NCL and have two cruises booked with them with these great promotions. One of them is a SJ suite booked for January 2017 with the UBP, UDP, gratuities, and OBC included. Even though it is almost two years away I'm excited to live the suite life!

But with all these recent changes just since I've started frequenting the boards, I'm worried that such a long lapse of time will allow many opportunities for our great deal to become not so great and no longer worth it. Just since we booked the cruise about a month ago we will now be paying an extra $3 per person per day in tips and possible auto gratuities on top of that in the specialty restaurants.

I know we can always cancel and have plenty of time to do so, but this was such a good deal and one we really couldn't afford elsewhere....I guess we shall see!

We booked our October 2015 Getaway cruise in a Haven Aft-Facing Penthouse in June 2014. With that booking we received a bunch of nice perks from our TA (3 specialty dinners, a good amount of OBC, Spa credit, & wine)- a pretty great deal. Since all the "promotions" started the same cabin is now $1,200 MORE than we booked at- and that would be with my kid sailing free:eek:. I'm very glad we booked so early. So glad, in fact, that we booked this month for an August 2016 sailing on the Escape. You can always grab a price reduction if it happens...but why chance it?

  3. After disembarking the Getaway we will have about 6 hours to kill before needing to be at the airport (FLL) for our flight home. We will have 2 kids (6 & 2) and 4 adults. I would love to know what you all do in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area to fill that "in between" time. We do not want to sit in the airport all day[emoji5]️

  4. OP, we will also be in one of the Escape 8-night in August 2016.

We cruised the Caribbean in August once. It was very hot and humid, but as a Canadian, hot and humid for a week is just fine.

I am also a fan of hot & humid- no complaints from me on that[emoji4]

  5. So, with last months promotions we (myself, hubby and son) booked a 7 day Western Caribbean on the Getaway for June 2016. This sailing has 3rd passenger 50% off. It is a good price for that time year + UDP, so we jumped on it.

Well, I was trolling around trolling around the NCL site yesterday, and I found an 8 day Eastern Caribbean on Escape in August 2016 for only $130 (total, not per person) more that what we paid for the WC on Getaway. We would still get UDP, plus 3rd passender would be free on this sailing.

To me, this seems like a great deal- $130 more for an extra day on vacation? Yes please! Our only concerns are these... We are doing the exact same itinerary of the Escape in October of this year on the Getaway. I say that the Escape should be the destination, but hubby is worried that it might be redundant to vacation to the exact same islands a year apart. Thoughts on this?

Also, we are concerned about sailing the EC in August during huricaine season. All of our previous cruises have been Jan/March/last week of Sept/Oct so we have no idea what the seas can be like in August. Any August sailors out there care to shed some light? I know that weather can not be guaranteed, just looking for some general feedback.

Thanks in advance for your insight:D

  6. Tiny bit of soot around the edges but barely noticeable. Vibration was only noticeable leaving port and again barely an issue for us.hope this helps!!!

We just added a review/comparison of our cruise as we did the Epic the following week - see post by Rollingstone43 - and I am creating a folder of pics which I will share when I work out how!!!!!

We are staying in 12304 later this year. Can't wait!! Thanks for the info[emoji3]

  7. Thanks for the information. We will be sailing this Saturday in the Haven, Aft Penthouse Suite deck 12. This will be our first time sailing with NCL. We are looking forward to the HAVEN life.

We are in Aft Penthouse 12304 in October- also our 1st sailing with NCL. Would love to hear what you thought of your cabin & the Haven in general!

  8. So, while we wait, what is everyone looking to book?

I am aiming for Breakaway out of NYC.

My hubby is looking at Getaway out of MIA but I would rather we can save on flights.

I'm trying to see if we can save any $ on our October sailing on Getaway as well as trying to book Escape for summer 2016.

We are sailing her in October as well! What is your departure date?

  10. Also, if the TA really is giving out the official item that NCL sells, I think they would use the exact terminology in their promotion - NCL Freestyle Cruise Rewards. That way, there would be no ambiguity. Lastly, as the previous poster pointed out, $200 doesn't make any sense if it's an NCL FCR.

You win the Christmas Turkey! As you stated, it is an internal TA credit of $200 for booking another cruise through them, not NCL FCC (it can be used to book any cruise line). Thanks again to all for your assistance!

  11. Based on that wording and the fact that I've never heard/read about any TA giving out Freestyle Cruise Rewards as a booking perk, I would say that the "future cruise credit certificate" is something issued by the TA itself. In other words, if you book with the same TA in the future, you will receive a $200 credit towards your new booking. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's my take.

That could be a very plausible explanation- I had just assumed it had meant the FCC NCL offers.

  12. Are you sure you didn't receive an on board credit from your TA for booking? Getting an OBC is usually what you get for booking, a FCR is what you purchase once on board and use towards a future booking. Let us know after your TA responds to your email please.

The exact wording from my TA is as follows: "complimentary onboard credit of $275.00, complimentary future cruise credit certificate will be provided in the amount of $200, complimentary dinner at 3 specialty restaurants".

I am waiting to hear back from them directly regarding when the FCC is available for use.

  13. Perhaps you could also ask your TA what the terms of the perk are... rather than having a bunch of people here thinking that they're "missing something"...

Yep- already shot them an email. I figured this was something that occurred more frequently, but I seem to be mistaken...😳

  14. My point is that it was given as a reward for booking a cruise, but they can now cancel the cruise and keep the reward. I'd book 10 cruises, get 10 FCCs, then cancel all 10. I am thinking we might be missing something here.

This is why I am asking if it is available now or only after we have completed the cruise...
