  1. you can certainly call if you'd like, but as long as your booking has been paid up to over the nett rate, it won't be cancelled.

i have invoices from Celebrity showing hundreds of dollars owing and it's been fine. my current booking shows that i owe $731 (my agent's commission amount) and i sail on friday - my booking is a-okay.

so that just depends on if your travel agent discounts the booking or takes their commission directly at the time of booking or not.

  2. So what is GO50-GAP ?

my guess - and this is just a guess - is that it's part of a $50 bonus commission promo that Celebrity offered to agents.

"GAP" usually references travel agency group ammenities and bonus commission is an option for agents to choose, so that's what I think it is.

as long as you've paid your booking in full and your agent has given you an invoice, you're good :)

  3. my husband and i carry our passports on us in port at all times.

*IF* something happened and we were not able to get back on the ship, it's my ticket home, so to speak.

without a passport you can not fly or travel between countries, so to me, that makes it mandatory to have on my person while I'm outside of Canada.

comes down to weighing the risk of having your passport lost/stolen/damaged because it's with you vs the risk of not being able to travel in an emergency situation.

  4. Funny ... I just called on this as well after just booking yesterday. I wanted to upgrade from a guarantee oceanview to a guarantee balcony. They were actually going to do it but I would have lost all my perks. Now, that isn't worth it. Plus, they did assign me to a decent room .... so I am happy!

So, if you are upgrading just so you have a view, then they might do it for you ... just call back and speak with someone else, but if you are upgrading to get in on the perks, they probably won't give them to you.

this is correct - exciting deals is a lower price with NO perks.

so if they will agree to give you the exciting deals rate, you do indeed lose your perks.

  5. i'm curious to hear if you've had success with this, but the fine print on the deal is pretty clear that it's new bookings only.

The Exciting Deals rate program is valid for new bookings only, is not combinable with any other offer or promotion and does not count towards tour conductorcredits.

    please post your results!

  6. i bring a small bluetooth speaker and listen to music at a moderate volume in my cabin and on my balcony.

i make sure that i don't do it at night or too early in the morning when people might be sleeping...

haven't ever had a complaint but i also usually do a quick peek over the railing to see if there's anyone out on their balcony around me. if there are others out, i would place the speaker inside the room pointing out the open door instead of actually on the balcony with me.

IMO, if you're respectful there's no reason why you can't enjoy your music. balconies aren't designated "quiet zones" or anything like that.

  7. I did a Baltic with Celebrity and we frequently brought beer and wine back on board with us from ports. A few times the crew even joked "where's the party?" when we came back on board.

I think the overall feeling about liquor is pretty relaxed in Europe, but your milage may vary. ;)

I would ask the crew about meat/cheese when you disembark for that port. Then they can give you specific information that would be applicable to your situation.

  8. Vancouver's downtown core is pretty small and walkable, so if you choose a hotel downtown, you'll be no more than 10 minutes from the pier by taxi from most locations.

if you're looking for something really nice, I suggest the Fairmont Pacific Rim. it's my favourite to stay in downtown... great location and beautiful rooms. it's not cheap, but nothing in vancouver is ;)

  9. I have also done the Rocky Mountaineer from Calgary/Banff to Vancouver and agree that it's spectacular. Gold Leaf is well worth the money IMO, those glass domed cars are so gorgeous.

The activities & tours in Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise that we did associated with my Rocky Mountaineer journey (i did a total 6 day vacation with 2 days on the train) were almost all contracted out to Brewster. My understanding is that they're the main company opperating in those places in Alberta and basically run almost all the tours in that area & inside the national parks. They're fantastic, so no need to worry.

If your tour portion with the rail has you sleeping on the train, you're with VIA Rail, but if you're in a hotel in Kamloops for a night, then you're may be on Rocky Mountaineer.

Although, truth be told, Rocky Mountaineer is a pretty big deal (and comes at a premium price point) so I feel like if that was included they would definitely name it in their itinerary.

  10. Did you also complain to guest services? What was the excursion? This is the place to share your experiences.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

curious about this as well... i had a less than desirable experience with a Celebrity Shore Excursion in the Baltics and they refunded 50% of it back to my onboard account without much hesitation.

  11. we didn't have a problem "collecting" beer... often we'd hit a bar on the way back to the room, ask for 2 beers each and just tell them we were going to sit on our balcony. maybe we got lucky, but we were never denied the second beer.

  12. FYI - you can get the MDR menu in Blu. So no need to actually go to the MDR to get their food.

And you can join a larger table in BLU, same as MDR if that's the style you prefer to dine.

But the 6pm is the default on your documents for BLU, despite BLU being open seating. There's no way to select a MDR time if you're in Aqua Class - seeing as how it's the main perk of being in Aqua, they assume you won't downgrade your dining to MDR, so if you choose to do so, you're going to be in the open dining section of the dining room.

  13. one thing that you may want to consider/ask about is the photos.

i've done this excursion twice and one time the staff were awesome and took photos of everyone at no charge and posted them to FB while we were still on the boat so that we could find the pictures of us and save them for free. obviously done in an effort to get better tips, but i was thrilled to tip bigger vs having to buy pictures.

second time i did it, they took fantastic photos with a very high quality camera and sold USB sticks with pictures on them for a reasonable rate right on the boat. again, i was happy to pay for them and they negotiated because we had several people on the excursion that they put on 1 stick instead of everyone buying their own.

so, if you plan on buying photos, the picture policy might be worth enquiring about... a ship run excursion might be $$ for printed pictures vs having digital access.
