  1. We always prefer an H6 aft Haven suite.  Have no problem being back there.  Beautiful rooms and the layout of the bathrooms (2) on decks 11 and 14 are absolutely gorgeous.  Also aft cabins IMO are the quietest.  Spend a lot of time in the Haven and don't feel a stranger at all.  For an Alaskan cruise, what a view !!  Regards, Gerry.

Gerry, WLW is still a power house and they still have lots of power to transmit across the country. You can find Crosley radio's and record players in antique shops.

My father was an amateur (Ham) radio operator and had a 250 ft.  self supporting Blaw-Knox tower in his backyard. W8VYE.  Remember many nights as a boy listening to dad speak to people all over the world. Regards, Gerry.

Friends and myself went to Crossley Field in the early 60’s to see our METS play your REDS .Has that area changed ?

lenquixote66,  Crosley field was on the outskirts of downtown Cincy.   The sight was right off interstate 75, which is now buildings and business'.  The Reds Ballpark along with the Bengals ballpark are downtown Cincy right on the river.  You can walk from the baseball stadium to the football stadium.  In between the two stadiums are bars, and restaurants

Crosley Field was named after Powell Crosley Jr. who purchased the Reds in 1934. Crosley automobiles, radios, electronics, and founder of WLW radio station.  50,000 watt transmitter largest in the nation at that time.  Believe still is.  Little history note.  Regards, Gerry.

  4. Thanks again AF-1 and mking8288 for such detail and helpful info.  Much better idea now that I know what I will be dealing with and will set out luggage in pm for pier pickup next morning.  Time for one last Haven breakfast and then off.  Probably have driver pick us up at baggage claim upon arrival.  Hoping I'm not overthinking NYC but realize it is not Fort Lauderdale !😉 Looking forward to this cruise and 2 days in your great city !  Regards, Gerry.

  5. Thank you both so much.  Very helpful.  Being in Haven we should have priority disembarkation, however never having disembarked in Manhattan before I don't know where that gets us. Do you have to cross the street with luggage upon leaving the pier or is pickup right in front ?   We've been in Suites where we were walked to customs and also where we were turned loosed in the middle of a crowd.   Regards, Gerry.

  6. Thinking of using a car service like Dial 7 for port pickup.  Flight leaving LGA at 2 pm. Hear that LGA is still in construction. Plenty of time I presume for distance to LGA just reaching the proper terminal (American AA) is a concern. Pre-cruise decided on 2 nights Westin Times Square, (I know), and taking Dial 7 to Manhattan Cruise Port Sunday am. We do not  travel light and cabs and Ubers sometimes just don't cut it.  Thought any delays or waits to drop off is on them.  With the terminal mess at LGA also considering Dial 7 at airport pickup Friday afternoon arrival rather than a cab.  Any input helpful to these tentative plans.  Regards, Gerry.

  7. The Haven bar on the Escape is about the size of the bar at Michael's Club on Celebrity Solstice. Escape is a little more modern in décor whereas Michael's Club is a little clubbier and cozier IMO.  Don't see where bar stools removal would matter.  Without bar stools I would think more people would be packed at the bar standing up.  Been several times on the Escape Haven bar and had nothing but fantastic service and drinks.  If a waiter/tress wasn't available, people would come to the bar with no problem as I saw it.  Looking forward to the Encore Haven this summer.  Regards, Gerry.

  8. Thanks, sounds great.  Appreciate the input.  History was some of the reasons for Delmonicos visit and I have also had Keen's on my list. Also always wanted to stay in the Waldorf once but guess its going the way of condos.   Regards, Gerry.

We have a few local pizza joints downtown and in the suburbs.  LaRosa's is a family pizza and pasta Italian restaurant,  then we have Angilo's.  Both are very good.  LaRosa's pizza sauce is sweeter tasting than most.

    Chester's Pizza in Hamilton/Fairfield !!! 😋

Deck 9 has the larger balcony.

Deck 15 has the (IMO) better view.

Both suites have the same configuration (A).

I'd take 9 but some prefer being higher/closer to the Haven complex.

You are the expert on these suites from reading your past comments. Appreciate your detailed input.  Do you think the window cleaning equipment on deck 14 would be an annoying item ?  We have 11 booked on Encore in August but wondering if deck 14 (higher) would hold an attraction ?  Regards, Gerry.

Hi I had a quick question. I am looking to book an Aft Penthouse Suite with large balcony on the Encore next year. The floors that are variable now our 9 and 15.

I know the ship is new but was wondering if any had any advice on what floor to pick. Any help would be great.

Decks 11 and 14 have windows in the bathroom.  The other decks have a balcony from the bedroom.  Mute point then since not available, but we prefer the darker bedroom and naturally lit bathroom on those two decks.  More beautiful bathroom IMHO.  Regards, Gerry.

  12. Thank you both.  Like getting dropped off at the appropriate airline.  Appreciate very much the info.  Thought of coming in at LaGuardia on Saturday, staying somewhere within a mile of the pier and taking a taxi in the am.  Appreciate the heads up on the running meter.  Uber or Lyft sounds like the answer.  Just need the XL because of 4 suitcases😊.  Probably will have more questions as time gets closer but again understanding a little better now.  Regards, Gerry.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal on 12th Ave.

Encore being a large ship will always sail from Pier 88, which is at 12th Ave and 48th St.

Please note that regardless of which pier,  88, 90 or 92/94, is being used there is only a single motor vehicle entrance, at 12th Ave. and 55th St., to the cruise terminal complex. There are separate pedestrian entrances to each of the piers however, at 48th St., 50th St. and 52nd St., respectively.

Couple other things.  So if we are sailing from pier 88 do we get dropped off 7 blocks away at 55th St or is that, 55th St. where the terminal is and check in ?  Or do we get dropped off at the pedestrian entrances for our respective piers ?   Also on debarkation was planning on having a service like Carmel pick us up for LaGuardia but read in another thread where NYPD were ticketing waiting car services across the street.  Sounds like a cluster for a Midwesterner.  Regards, Gerry.

It is-- if only they still made ships that look like Normandie. You'll also get a very good view of USS Intrepid and British Airways Concorde Alpha Delta. There is still vintage Cunard signage on 92 you can see from the ship looking back towards the city. You'll also be able to see the remnants of Pier 54 (just a steel gantry these days) as you sail out.

Thank you.  Yes, I feel Normandie is one of the most beautiful ships ever built. Would have loved to have seen her.  Worried about the congestion.  Don't feel I'm in Ft. Lauderdale anymore.  😉 Gerry.

Thanks so much for the information.  Aside note: Being a history buff, isn't that the pier that the Normandie capsized at during the war in 1942 ?  Regards, Gerry.

  16. We have sailed on Escape in Suite 11312 before and have the Encore same suite booked for this August.  Decks 11 and 14 are different setups from the other decks.  Guess called the 'B'  arrangement.  These have the bathroom by the balcony instead of the bedroom.  We prefer this arrangement.  It's a darker bedroom.  Guess like an inside.  The bathroom with tub and shower facing the balcony is beautiful !  Far prettier imo  than the bed by balcony arrangement.  Look up utube videos of Haven aft Penthouse Suites on these decks.  You can compare and see for yourself.  There are others on this site that have more experience on balcony sizes and overhang, (privacy) than I. We always stay in aft suites.  Love the view and the quiet back there.  The walk to us is meaningless.  To others it may be of concern but still not far from the aft elevators.  My two cents.  Regards, Gerry.

There is no curfew. You will be able to come and go 24 hours.

Thanks, I thought it would almost have to be, but appreciate the confirmation.  Regards, Gerry.
