  1. I have a really ugly tale about the casino rate. Went to book my cruise for this Nov. 2015 and my agent said I got the casino rate. I told her I would get back to her with my fellow travellers (5 staterooms) within the half hour so she could book it. I got back to her as all are definitely going. But when she went to book it, the entire casino rate had disappeared. My agent contacted Princess and was told, but not in these word "tough luck".

Wrote to CEO of Princess and have NEVER received a reply.

I am elite and like I am reading on cruise critic quite a bit, it seems Princess has no respect nor time for us Elite passengers.

  2. we do many b2b's. Years ago, we were allowed off whenever we wanted and went thru the process of disembarking, but sailed thru customs. We were allowed to return whenever we wanted. So we shopped and came back for lunch.

They changed this a few years ago. If you disembark to shop, etc. we were informed that we could only come back on when the new passengers were boarding. If we didn't disembark we were assigned a time and place and escorted (literally in a circle) to show our passports and then reboard.

    Hope this helps

  3. Is there a limit to the number of times you can send out the (free) laundry for Elites? I've usually done one small load in my name and one in my husband's name -- but can you send out more than once (each)? On the website it just says 'complimentary laundry service'.

James, On 14 day cruises I send out clothes to be laundered every 3 days.

  4. When you go on a cruise that goes to several different countries overseas how do you deal with foreign currency? Do you purchase some before you go (and if so where do you find the best deals) or just hope you find an ATM in your travels. I have heard that the ship does not have very good exchange rates. Thanks.

We don't exchange monies abroad. We use either our ATM card when you can find the appropriate banks that will use them (some ports don't have banks that will allow overseas ATM useage. But now we opted for a Princess Visa with no foreign transaction fees. the banks would charge us 3% on all our purchases and it added up in fees.

    Hope this helps:)

  5. thank you so much. We are doing the transatlantic end of April on this ship and I keep reading so many negative things about Caribbean Prin. We just recently got off the Royal, and I fell in love with that ship, and that made me doubly concerned about going on an older ship.

Only thing that affects our trip now is that we generally love to eat at Crown Grill, and may have to reconsider. Unlike you, I would have sent back the food if delivered differently from what I order.

    thanks again.

  6. Does anyone know if the mattresses and pillows have improved on the Royal Princess?

We recently returned on the Star Princess and we both found many an ache and pain every morning due to mattress. Also, the cabin steward fluffs pillows daily to make them look wonderful, but they only look that way. Once you place your head on them the pillow will die.

If you let me know, I won't be bringing my own pillow to Europe.

    Thanks

  7. we are scheduled for the Sept. 10, 2014 sailing from Copenhagen to NY. Can anyone tell me if in the fitness center there are saunas and steam rooms besides the ones in the lotus spa.

My DH has always enjoyed going to the fitness center for the sauna.

    Thanks

  8. We always go to the "vines" around 4:30 or 5 and end up able to purchase a bottle of wine which we could take with us or ask to send to dining room. Otherwise, I don't know of being able to purchase other alcoholic drinks by the bottle.

Only time we got bottles in the cabin was when we did the back to back cruises. At the end of the first leg they deliver all alcohol you purchased to your cabin. We just keep it in the cabin.

  9. I loved it when I had it on the Star. It was probably the best meal I had on the ship and I went to Sabatini's and the Crown Grill, too. Loved it. For some reason, I can't seem to post pictures anymore or I'd show you the food I had.

we were on the Star Princess in July and had the crab shack dinner. Very much worth the $20. per person. Nice to have a different kind of meal. And because the horizon court at the back was cordoned off from the rest of the Horizon Court area, it felt special.

  10. I am elite level with Princess and know they will do my laundry (if I choose). My companion is not elite, can I put their clothing into the laundry as well with mine?

Also, my companion is only 2 days short of elite status, what can be done without booking a cruise - anything?

    thanks for your responses.

  11. Karska, I mean really bad dining room experience on RC. lol

Had new waitress and new assist. waiter. Both barely spoke or understood english. Nightly, our food arrived "cold". We complained to matre d and to the rest. mgr. Only excuses given to us such as the order is placed in kitchen and then they have to get at the end of the line to pick it up and that is why it isn't hot. Guess what RC, that's a poorly run dining room.

Our coffee was in carafes they placed in a cabinet near the table. Unfortunately, by the time we were having coffee at the end of the meal, that too was cold coffee.

always left a bad taste in my mouth the entire experience. But I loved the ship.

  12. Hey there Bermuda Starz, glad to make your acquaintance.

We traveled twice on Royal Caribbean and both times had dining room problems. The second time was completely unforgiveable so we never went again on RC. Once on Norwegian was once too many times. Carnival trip had 1200 people on board and an announcement was made that 800 were under age 12. Ithink all 800 ran around with walkie talkies continually yelling into them

Have a dozen trips on Holland America, but in 2006 got turned off to that line and have since done Celebrity which I loved and Princess which is our favorite.

We are coming from California and getting onboard in Copenhagen.

  13. I fear I may start seeming like tooth ache, or the kid that keeps asking "but why . . .". However, since I'm seeking a real picture of different cruise lines . . . . . . what are the activites on on the Princess? :o

having cruised over 30 times now on the likes of Celebrity, Princess, Holland America, Norwegian, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and one other line that no longer exists - we love Princess.

We are elite on Princess, so of course we love the little perks they give us. I guess the intangible item is the ambiance onboard the ships. Very friendly and very open.

One other consideration is that we tend to travel on 14 or more day trips and so there are never really any children on board of significance. The longer trips give us time to really get to know other people and it gives us time to utilize the specialty restaurants. That said, this is probably true of all cruise lines.

Hope this helps a bit. Knick
