  1. DW and I will be sailing as D+ for the first time next week. We will be on Liberty OTS. I'm just looking for advice on how to make the most out this new tier experience. Any and all advice will be appreciated.

Excellent thread Sam, Jeannette and I will complete our D+ on our cruise in two weeks.

The cruise that we were on together a couple years ago was a great one.....

  2. Hi...from everything I have researched...there is no smoking on balconies. The smoking side of ship is on the lido (pool) deck is starboard. I could be wrong...but this is my understanding. My husband and I actually changed our cabin to the port side due to this, in hopes on the smoke not drifting down. We are on FOS on Aug 28. I hope this helps.

Very Correct and we're on the 28th cruise also...............

  3. I second the balcony! However, I do love getting up in the morning, grabbing a cup of coffee and a roll, and watching the hogs trying to claim the best spots in the pen. It is like a free show!

Like that approach................Balcony breakfast is the best.............

  4. I expect many different answers to this question but here goes!! How long did you wait for your cabin assignment on a cabin guarantee?? My personal experience was two weeks before sailing. What was yours??

Thanks and have a good day.

    Carol

28 days, we've done great and okay....we're always glad to be cruising.....

  5. Oh YES, How I remember. I far prefer the "old" system. That way I knew the people who provided me service got the $$$. I always carry plenty of ones to thank the omelet cook, breakfast waiter and..... :D

We do the same, also we look for and decide on a favorite bartender who gets a little a long the way and a bigger tip for the last round of the cruise.

  6. Actually we've doing 3-5 nights of specialty restaurants and the other nights in the Windjammer for the last 10 cruises. So I agree with the others Quiet and Nice the only down side is no Lobster.

  7. First of all, I am very sorry that you missed your cruise. A very painful, stressful and expensive lesson to learn.

For those who are suggesting that RCI should somehow compensate you or allow you to book another cruise with that money, please think of this:

Original Poster paid $11,000 for a set of rooms on the Oasis 4/2/16 cruise.

His party miss that cruise at the last minute, and those cabins remained empty for the cruise. RCI was not able to 'resell' them and earn any additional money on them as they would have in the case of a last minute cancellation that was perhaps several days before the cruise. These cabins were held for OP until sail away and beyond in case they were able to catch up.

If they allowed OP to book another cruise with their original $11,000 paid, then RCI will be out that money. It would be essentially getting two cruises for the price of one - even though the cabins went empty on the first cruise.

RCI is not a charity. They are a for profit business that is held accountable to their stockholders. This was not a case of someone having a heart attack on the way to the ship. Or a family member dying. (God forbid.) This was a case of poor planning and not taking prudent measures.

The prices for everyone go up in the long run if RCI allows people to rebook due to their own mistakes.

Hard lesson to learn, but adults take risks all the time - sometimes they don't pay off.

Totally agree, we live in Florida and still drive to the port a day early. You never know how the weather will be the day of the cruise. Plus we like to get the party started early.

  8. We were on the Freedom last year and it was in great shape, our next cruise in August is back on the same ship. We haven't had any major issues with this ship. I did like that in the Diamond Lounge they weren't letting people wear shorts during happy hour. I actually got busted on night 5 night...........

  9. In your situation, we would do a one-way rental from the airport to a hotel in Cocoa Beach. You might need a minivan depending on how may bags you have. This would give you the flexibility to go to dinner where you want, shop for wine or any last minute items, etc. On the day of the cruise, I would drop off luggage (and any passengers who want) at the terminal, return the car to the rental agency, and take their free shuttle back to the cruise terminal.

I would book a shuttle for the way back to the airport. Something like Cortrans, Cocoa Beach Shuttle, or Travelynx.

I agree with Clarea, before living in the Tampa area we would fly to Orlando, rent a car and it was great. The morning of the cruise, we would drop the luggage at the port then take the car back. Avis is about 2 miles from the port and has a shuttle. We are Marriott people and have stayed by the port (Residence Inn) and in Cocoa Beach (Courtyard) both were great............

  10. I love to just stop into the lounge whenever I want a latte.....so nice....it even is a good place to stop in and sit and read. At times there are cookies, but not very often, have I found during the day. But that never stopped me from visiting WJ and then heading to the lounge for my latte.

Depending upon the ship, the lounge may have an outside area to sit in and that is enjoyable as well.

I agree that it's a great place for some quiet time in the late morning or early afternoon............................
