  1. They are updated now. Overnights in Havana on the Mariner April 11th and April 18th cruises.

Also note that the fares are sharply higher for the new itineraries. (For Cat H, from $2,199 to $2,999.)

I wonder whether the higher fare is Regent thinking there is more demand, or if there are actually higher costs associated with stopping in Havana.

Note that similar new itineraries on Oceania Marina did not go up in price ... yet.

  2. On embarkation day, luggage is not only delivered to your suite, but brought inside and set up on luggage racks. Regent leaves it in the hallway outside the door for you to drag it inside yourself.

Likely, this is a chicken and egg situation. Which comes first, the cabin attendant who places the magic scuff-resistant egg-laying carpet on your nest, or the egg(s)?

Or perhaps the cabin attendant does come first, but somehow the door closes and locks before your eggs are delivered?

Those magic scuff-resistant egg-laying carpets are in every cabin, though, so the intent is clearly that the egg(s) be placed on top of it.

And now I wait for the first poster to cry "Fowl!"

  3. I think they did an excellent job remodeling this ship. Hare-raising, in fact:

I'm also a fan of the Platner-style chairs, and this:

    Not so much this portrait:

Having sailed the Danube before, I doubt I will do it again. But it were my first time, I would definitely favor Crystal Mozart. They made very good use of the double-wide space - a lot of it public space, and the cabins look lovely too.

  4. This whole list means nothing , especially since CC continues to include Oceania, Azamara, Windstar and Viking in it luxury cruise category. They are not even though they are terrific cruise lines.

If Oceania, Azamara, Windstar, and Viking are not even luxury lines, doesn't that say something about Crystal because they lost to those lines? Doesn't that say something about those non-luxury lines that can beat Crystal? And doesn't it says something about Cruise Critic Editor's Pick awards, one way or the other.

I think that is certainly more than nothing ... and also less than everything.

  5. ...“To be recognized by the savvy experts of Cruise Critic is high praise, and validation of our commitment to offer the world’s travelers a new standard of excellence in luxury,” says Crystal CEO and president, Edie Rodriguez. “ . ..

Is this not also an endorsement for every other luxury cruise line?

    • Seabourn, Best Luxury Cruise Line
    • Regent, Best New Luxury Cruise Ship
    • Azamara, Best Luxury Cruise Ship Refurbishment
    • Oceania, Best Luxury Cruise Line for Dining
    • Regent, Best Luxury Cruise Line Cabins
    • Silversea, Best Luxury Cruise Line Itineraries
    • Azamara, Best Luxury Cruise Line Shore Excursions
    • Crystal, Best Luxury Cruise Line for Enrichment
    • Windstar, Best Luxury Cruise Line for Romance
    • Viking, Best Luxury Cruise Line for Value
    • Viking, Best Luxury Cruise Line Spa

That's quite a press release for what is in reality a really bad news for Crystal - except for Mozart. And, of course Mozart is not even a new river ship.

  6. Of course, I can't be certain, but I think the question to which Marq answered "yes" is "Does anyone know when the balance of 2018 itineraries will be published?"

It's a joke reminiscent of Professor Irwin Corey. :)

And although I do not have a definitive answer, I checked an old email on the subject from last year for 2017 itineraries, and they were posted online around October 8.

  7. This is not a definitive answer, but the probable cause is that there is no room at the dock in the City of Angels. And so the cruise is "closed" until they resolve this issue.

Apparently this also happened on a 2017 cruise - maybe on Navigator - and it was resolved by changing the debarkation/embarkation port to San Diego.

Maybe San Francisco would work as well, but then they would have to sacrifice another port to cover the extra travel distance. (Maybe even Ensenada in a pinch?)

Thank you for all your responses.

  8. These Regent comparisons are not new. Some here may be seeing them for the first time, but I remember seeing them on the web site many years ago. I remember that they used to include the pre-cruise hotel in the comparison. They later changed the pre-cruise hotel to Category "E" and higher, and it had to be removed from the chart.

Of course, Regent cherry-picks the cruises where they compare favorably - but not always where they are the least expensive, as is the case with Princess in Alaska. I agree with those who said that this is primarily an illustration to remind potential passengers that the Regent's published fares compared to other luxury lines' published fares are apples and oranges. Or cherries and apples. Or whatever.

I also agree with those that did not disagree to the comparison with Brad Pitt and yours truly.

  9. I checked my next cruise this morning based on reading about the price drop here, and it had gone down. Just checked it again, and the old fares are back.

Maybe it was just a flash sale?

Or maybe the new sale does not start until September 1?

    :confused::confused::confused:

  10. Nor can I see a rush for cabins on the NYC-Montreal trip given the time of year - much too early for the fall colors.

Just a note or two ...

The new 18 day Panama Canal itinerary goes to Acapulco. So if they were going to phase that out to some other port, as some speculated, then surely they would not have added another cruise there.

Also about the new Panama Canal itinerary - I'm guessing that is the lowest priced Regent itinerary on a per day basis - $311 with air, and would be much lower without air. Crystal had a similar situation - a Panama Canal cruise in the summer priced under $200 per day, and it became very popular! For someone who just likes using the ship as all at sea days, these are very attractive options.

And the new Miami to Montreal itinerary is the lowest price itinerary, excluding 7 day itineraries, on any Regent ship.

  11. Respectfully - from the Teletubbies Wiki -

Tinky Winky (played by Dave Thompson and Simon Shelton in the original series and by Jeremiah Krage in the revival series)[15][16] is the first Teletubby, as well as the largest and oldest of the group. He is covered in purple terrycloth and has a triangular antenna on his head. He almost always carries a red bag.

    Respectfully noted!

But the image I posted above is from that same Wiki page. And he is blue!
