Yes, I understand that the insurance is optional. I guess my question is, for those that have rented before, and don't have coverage through their CC, should I get the optional coverage or not?

Checked with my credit cards and none offer any insurance protection outside of North America.
Any suggestion on who to book with for this day? Where would I be able to get the vehicle from? Port or somewhere else?
Also - what coverages do I need to pay for?

A little off topic, but a question on price drops since someone mentioned it here. When you book and pay a deposit, until when are you eligible for price drops? Until the cruise date or until the final payment date?

Your insurance coverage through you credit card is fine for your rental. The govt requires you to purchase the temp license. The rental agency will not rent without it.
Thank you! Will check with CC company to see if my cards have the coverage. If not, will pay for it to be on the safe side.

I've set up a webpage for: St. Kitts. It's an accumulation of information from all over the internet so it's as accurate & current as the website where I found it :D.
Be sure to read my warning in red letters at the top of the webpage.
The webpage is a good place to start planning activities then confirm the facts when making final decisions.
Thanks!! Will check out your page. Really appreciate all the help.

Since no one has answered your question on must see here is mine.
Brimstone Fortress, Romney Manor / Caribel Batik , and Black Rock .
if you don't want to rent a car the Tour by Thenford Grey is the best overall tour of St Kitt's. http://www.thenfordgreytours.com
For a little more adventure try Javin's Island Tour. https://myislandstours.shutterfly.com
Thank you!!!

Certainly doable - but on the route you outline you will hit very heavy afternoon traffic from Simpson Bay to Phillipsburg - better to go around the other way so you would be heading down the east side of the island in the afternoon - possibly making your last stop at Dawn Beach - by Oyster Pond , or just come down from Orient.
Awesome!! Thanks so much for the tip!

It is very easy to rent a car in St Kitts. There are the big three rental outlets(Thrifty, Avis & Hertz) and several local operators. Driving is on the left and a local license has to be purchased( $24-25 US). Expect to pay about $40-$75 for the vehicle & about $10-15 for optional insurance.
Thanks!
Why do we need a local license? Would a CDN license not work?
If using a CC that provides insurance, would that suffice?

We are first timers cruising as well as our first time in St. Kitts. Please help us plan our day here. We will be there on Dec 17th from 9am - 5pm on an Eastern Caribbean cruise with Carnival (from Fort Lauderdale).
Our first stop is St. Maarten and we are thinking of renting a car there for teh day and driving all around.
For St. Kitts is this an option too? Has anyone here done this? What is a must see?
We are 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 9).
Thanks!

Which port are you sailing from? Miami or Port Everglades? Both are covered extensively for hotel recommendations on this board.
We are leaving from Port Everglades.

Hello!
This will be our first cruise and first time in St. Maarten.
Been doing a lot of reading and all and see that many use Bernard for tours.
Also see that some take the bus or rent a car.
We are leaning towards renting a car (2 adults and 2 kids aged 8 and 9). We have driven in a lot of countries and feel that maybe it will be better.
We will be there Dec 16 from 9am - 6pm.
Thinking of doing this route and hence driving the around the whole island!
Philipsburg--> Border --> Oyster Pond --> Orient Beach --> Marigot --> Sarafina --> Mullet Bay --> Maho Beach -->Simpson Bay --> Philipsburg
Any suggestion on what is a must see?
Is this doable?
Suggestions on rental? Sites to rent from?
Thanks!!

Hello, we are first time cruisers and will be flying from either Toronto or Buffalo to FLL.
Our cruise is for Dec 13 Dec 21.
We will likely fly in really late, so will need a hotel for Dec 12th. We will also need transport to the hotel and then to the port the next day.
On our return depending on the flights, we will need a hotel for the 21st and maybe the 22nd.
Any suggestions, tips and help would be really appreciated.

Hello!
We are first time cruisers and have some questions please. Would really appreciate your help. 2 adults and 2 Kids (8 and 9) from Fort Lauderdale in Dec.
1. For dining, do we sit on our own or do we sit with others? And dow we sit with them every night?
2. Does the Freedom have both buffet and sit down for lunch and dinner?
3. What do we pack for Dec? Do we need sweaters?
4. How many formal outfits do we need?
5. Suggestions on hotels near the port for prior and post cruise?
Thanks!!

Thank you all! Will just leave it as is then based on all the feedback.

First timer on cruise.
Been reading a lot about the tips and how many prefer to just pay cash to those who deserve rather than use auto tip.
Some say it's better to cancel auto tip the day before the end and some do it as they embark. If we were to opt of auto and just pay the crew themselves, when should we opt out, before or after?

Thank you all!!

We just paid a deposit for our first cruise ever. We are taking the 8 day Eastern Caribbean cruise.
I saw that you can get a $100 OBC if you own shares.
What's not clear is when do I have to own the shares? Can I buy them after paying for the cruise and still get the credit? Or would I have to own the shares prior to booking?
Thanks!

We are going on our first cruise. What we did was check Carnival and saw the price. Then went to *************.com and requested a quote there.
TA's sent in their offers.
We took one that offered a $100 OBC. So essentially we saved a $100.
