  1. Thanks for the trip review. Had a lot of fun following but had to wait until this morning to finish it. Just got off the Mardi Gras and for some odd reason it wouldn’t let me look at the Cruise Critic site.

That is a great ship. We are Alchemy people normally but only went there twice. Had a lot more fun at the Brass Magnolia and Fortune Teller bars. Melissa definitely made sure my glass was never empty at BM. Kinda bummed that our next three cruises don’t have the Brass Magnolia. Got hooked on that bar.

Hope you got home safe. Sitting in a day room at the MCO Hyatt waiting for our 8:30pm flight. Love the day rooms, looking down at the security lines it’s pure chaos right now. Not a seat to be found and a 45+ minute wait for regular security.

  2. We are going to be on the Miracle to Alaska in a few weeks and was wondering how many outlets where in the stateroom. We are in a regular balcony. Since this is an Alaska cruise I know my camera batteries are probably going to be on a constant charging rotation.

if there are limited outlets (last ship we were on only had one) are we allowed to bring some sort of plug strip?

    Thanks for any info

Thank you so much. Buffalo Trace and Harmony, two of my favorite things. Some day in the future we are going to drive down to Port Canaveral about a week early before a cruise and do some of the tours along the Bourbon Trail.

We just went to Buffalo Trace last Saturday. Very interesting place. Had lots of fun with the tour. They took us into Blanton’s Bottling Hall where they were hand bottling Blanton’s. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any for sale that day.

If you make it to Buffalo Trace, take some extra time that day and visit Woodford Reserve Distillery. It’s only about 20 minutes away from BT and the two distilleries are so different. BT is the big cooperate distillery that has been around forever and Woodford is a nice smaller distillery in the middle of horse farms that has been operating for only 23 years (as Woodford) . Both were a fun visit.

  4. If anyone has been or going to be on the Harmony, I would love to know what you found onboard. I’m mainly a bourbon person but do enjoy other forms of whisk(e)y too. I have the drink package and am looking forward to trying just about anything.

I will be on Harmony in December, will try to make a list of what is available and at what bars.

  5. We are currently on the Horizon and at the beginning of the cruise there was a letter in our cabin stating that the Sky Ride would be closed for the duration of our cruise.

To our pleasant surprise it opened yesterday and was open again today. Seems they got whatever needed to be fixed done. Hopefully this is a sign that is back into normal operation.

Have ridden it three times and find it enjoyable. We did go up to it when there was a minimal line (while the ship was in port). Don’t think I would wait for it if there was a substantial line.

  6. The new BBQ Smokehouse on the Horizon has 10 bourbons. At 9.25 is Blanton's, 8.75 is Woodford Reserve, Basil Hayden, Breckenridge, Duke & Highwest Prairie. At 8.25 is Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare 10 year, Four Roses single barrel and Old Forester 80 proof.

Nice selection. Just booked Horizon for December. Looks like I’ll have to split my time between the Smokehouse bar and Alchemy.

  7. We were on the Oasis of the Seas in December and the onboard shops had Blantons for $40 a bottle and would sell us 8 with each of the letters. Ugh we were flying home so could t take the deal. Can’t find it on the shelves here in Ohio.

Blanton’s is made by Buffalo Trace who has been allocating their shipments due to high demand. In Cincinnati I have the best luck checking with The Party Source to find out when more is coming in.

  8. Good ideas (well, I am not sure about the fries but if that’s what she likes why not). I am so going to have to try a different combination each night on our upcoming cruise.

I wonder if I put some rum or whiskey on one if the waiter would light it for a little flambe effect?

  9. Just remembered about this after someone else mentioned the melting cake on another thread.

On our last cruise we were talking to one of the girls on the entertainment staff before trivia and she asked if we liked the melting cake (yes) and then asked if we like Reese Cups (yes). Her suggestion, get the melting cake with a side of peanut butter. Then mix or put the peanut butter in the melting cake. Turned out to be really good.

If you like chocolate and peanut butter then try it. I don’t think I’ll ever order the cake without it again. Of course, now I am wondering what else would mix in well with the melting cake (a little rum perhaps )

  10. We will be on the Dream in May, would love to know if there is a way to get a list of all forms of whiskey available on board (bourbon, scotch, etc).

Blantons is also one of my favorites. Did you know you can collect all 8 tops of the bottle. The set features a horse and jockey in different strides and poses resembling the stages of a horse race.

I would love to find Basil Hayden bourbon aboard the ship.

  11. I have had some cruise lines refund the amount back to the cards used. Not sure about Carnival but I always had Disney tell me told hold onto the gift cards I used since, if I had to cancel and a refund was owed, those funds would go back to the gift card used.

They might want to check the balance of the used cards, it might have gone back to them if a refund was allowed.

  12. I’ll also say just about anything on the Alchemy menu. Like others, some of the best are ones I have had they made off menu at Alchemy including:

Grape Coolaid (no grapes but kinda looks like it)

Pineapples infused vodka, muddled blackberries, pineapple juice, lychee, and lime juice.

And one I didn’t think I would like but love it:

    Maria’s special:

    2oz Irish Cream

    1/2 oz Cream de Cacao

    1 oz Absolute Vanilla

    1/2 oz Butterscotch Schnapps

Anytime they create one I like I ask for the recipe so I can get it the next time I am on a Carnival ship.
