  1. We will be on the Crown for Alaka in May. Can't wait (first time with Princess and first time to Alaska). Didn't know about the Crab Shack, will definatly look for that.

One tip that was given to us on our trip was to book late dining (8:15pm I think). We are in port until 10pm at Juneu and Ketchikan until 7pm. We would have to cut our port time short to make early dining. (although with being in Juneau until 10pm we will probably try to find a local joint for dinner, any suggestions anyone?).

If you like taking pics, bring extra batteries and memory cards. I know my poor camera is going to need a vacation when we get home :)

  2. Hi all,

We are sailing Princess for the first time and I am trying to find some if their daily planners. In particular, I am looking for the Alaska RT on Crown from Vancouver planners. I know that these will be from last year since we are out if season right now. I am just trying to get an idea of what might be done on ship.

I read on the NPS site that many cruise lines will do talks or presentations on what to expect at Glacier Bay and ports. Possible some photo classes and such also.

If anyone knows where I might find some, it would be appreciated.

  3. We are going on our first Alaska cruise and I was doing some reading about Glacier Bay on the National Parks site. They mention that there will be a table set up by the park rangers on board and they will have the parks passport stamp. Does anyone know if they sell the parks passport on board or do we need to get one before we cruise?

  4. Just off the Victory a few days ago.

On board, check out Music Asia. The are a group playing in the casino most nights. Pretty good and played just about anything you can think of.

Alchemy Bar is awesome. Ioana had us off the menu by the second night. We just told her what we like and she would create something on the fly.

We didn't care much for the show we saw (livin in America, I think). All I could think of was that it belonged in a low-budget theme park around the early 90s. The show was about an hour long and felt like 2 hours.

Love and Marriage show was funny. I think that one really depends on who Marcello gets to participate.

Serenity on our cruise was always packed. Almost impossible to get a chair most times.

We had FTTF and that was nice. Got us on the ship quickly and was really worth it at guest services. There was almost always a line and the FTTF/diamond window was usually empty or only had one person waiting.

If you like playing cards ask for a deck at guest services. They still hand out free decks if you ask.

Food in MDR was good, Lido buffet was usually a chaotic nightmare during the day.

Dr Suess breakfast is alot of fun even if you don't have kids (we don't).

Overall, it is a good ship. No big wow factor but we didn't want one on this cruise. We were pretty happy just hanging out on the room balcony or on deck in the day and listening to some good music in the evenings.

  5. Thanks, looking forward to checking the piano bar out and will also look for Music Asia. I am not much into the dance scene ( I'm pretty sure my health insurance company would get pretty nervous if I got on to a dance floor ) but I do enjoy kicking back and listening to some good music.

Does the comedy club fill up pretty quick? I know the one on RCI's Allure was about impossible to get into. You had to reserve a time long before your cruise if you wanted in.

Down to single digits, almost there.

  6. Going to be on the Victory in a bit over a week :D and was wondering what the nightly entertainment was like. First time on Carnival but I'm guessing they have similiar offerings as other cruise lines. The one thing we discovered on a previous cruise on RCI is we enjoyed the piano bar and some of the live bands. Are there similiar offerings on Victory and if anyone has been on her recently were they good?

    Only 10 days to go!

  7. We are cruising Carnival for the first time in a few weeks and I would get the cheers but my wife doesn't drink much and it would be wasted for her. When we sailed RCI I was able to get the unlimited drink package just for me and she got a non-alcoholic package. Everyone in the stateroom did not have to purchase a package. The other thing about the RCI package was if I ordered a glass if wine that wasn't included in the package (wines over $10/glass I think) you were just charged the amount over $10 instead of a percent discount like Carnival does (if I understand it correctly).

I like the drink packages because it lets me try drinks I wouldn't normally try. Wish Carnival would allow it to be per person, instead of everyone in the stateroom.

  8. At the beginning of every cruise I set my cell to NOT update automatically. With more ships adding on board apps for schedules I find my phone is with me most if the time now (albeit in plane mode with wifi on so I don't get hit with an international charge if someone calls). I'm also used to using my phone as a clock. I can't wear watches at work for safety reasons so I got used to checking time on my phone.

  9. What sailing was it? We are on the Aug 3 which does gcm and ocho rios. If it was that one I would love to see the funtimes. It is a "girls trip" for my daughters graduation, me, her, my sister and my mom.

We are on the same cruise. Here is a link to some Fun Times from last years version of that cruise.

Siesta_Key pointed me to them on a different thread I had made requesting them.

  10. Thanks for the info CakeDiva. I misread where you stayed. We are at the Miami Intercontinental which is close to the ship port.

Looking forward to this cruise. For us it is about kicking back and relaxing. We have a balcony on deck 10. We sailed with a balcony on our first cruise and I couldn't sail without one. Love sitting out there.

    Counting down the days.

  11. We just sailed from June 22-26. If you enjoyed the Valor the Victory will not disappoint you. The sea horses do bit! They especially like the thigh area[emoji8]. The Alchemy Bar was the "it place" for us. They make some very interesting concoctions. We found the food to be very good on this particular cruise.

We are going to be on Victory for the Aug 3 cruise, I think the same itenarary. You woudn't happen to have copies of the Funtimes would you? It's our first Carnival cruise and we are trying to get an idea of what is availible on board.

  12. We are taking out first Carnival cruise in August. Does anyone know what types of adult beverage tastings are offered on the Victory? Even better, if someone has copies of the Funtimes for the 5-night Western Caribbean this ship takes, I would love to see a copy and see what else there might be that gets my interest.

  13. Coming to the end of our cruise and the Allure (possibly other ships as well) has special holiday pricing for the internet packages.

Here are the rates currently listed for the Allure. They are listed as Holiday Pricing so I'm not sure how long they will last and the line at Guest Services was way too long to ask.

    Premium +

    Voyage 2 devices $245

    Voyage 1 device $195

    Daily $60

    Hourly $35

    Voyage 1 device $85

We did the Premium 1 device and was pretty happy with it. Never had any connection problems (except for forgetting my password on day 2 but support quickly helped me with that).

  14. Sorry, got too busy enjoying the drink package and forgot to grab the current rates :)

  15. We did exactly that, save it was with martinis. Our amazing bartender charged us all 1 drink each, but was kind enough to spread it out over 4-5 smaller "servings" if you will.

Granted, it wasn't that crowded at the time, and we all made sure he was tipped well (but we would do that anyways)

    Good luck!

Thanks, that is pretty much what I was thinking about trying. I like trying and comparing drinks and am a fan of tastings. I figured the drink package could be used as a 7-day tasting but if I was given, say for example, 5 full pours instead of 5 smaller pours, I would be in sad shape before the cruise was half over.
