  1. We will soon be on our cruise (!) and visiting Cozumel for the fourth time. Like before, we will rent a Jeep and tour the island for the day.

So I'm wondering, does anyone know of something unusual to see there? Something off the beaten path, not often seen?

We've seen San Gervasio and El Cedral, toured the whole coast, visited the lighthouse/crocodile lagoons/nature preserve and even been to the amazing cemetery in San Miguel.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. We know about the excursion along the north coast visiting the other lighthouse, but will save that for another visit.

  2. We're not usually ones for excursions, we prefer to find a driver or rent a car to see much of and what we want to in a country. There are a number of things we'd like to see/do in Puerto Plata, so a car either way is what we'd like.

I emailed four different drivers I found online for Puerto Plata over a month ago. We haven't heard from one of them.

The other option is to rent a car. There is in fact a rental agency right at Amber Cove. However, everything I've read says that driving in Puerto Plata is a nightmare. It's a sizeable city, and I don't want to get lost or run into scary traffic situations, so I think this option is out.

Does anyone know if one can rent a taxi driver at Amber Cove for the day? We've tried this a few times, and it's worked out lovely. Would love to know if that's an option here.

  3. I'll start with one word: dessert. I loved them all. In the main dining room, for sure, but so many yummy little plates at the buffet. Never had a pavlolva before and I thought it was divine. I won't tell you how many I had on our last cruise. It was a lot.

Plus, I've never been on a cruise with hand-dipped ice cream before. It's always just been soft serve on the pool deck. That was a nice touch.

    Can't wait till March!

  4. We'll be there soon to celebrate our 20th. [emoji846]

We're not really interested in doing an eco tour kind of excursion, which seems to be the only type offered by Holland America and the independent operators.

So I'm curious if anyone might know what kind of tours are available once we get off the ship at the pier - city tours, snorkeling, something else?

    Thanks.

  6. We'll be on Half Moon Cay soon for our 20th anniversary. I'd like to have a surprise vow renewal ceremony at the chapel, but can't really find any information on it. HA told me that all arrangements are made at the front desk once one is onboard.

So has anyone used the chapel for this before or attended a ceremony there? I'm curious not only about cost but also what it all looks like - what staff are there, what's provided, etc.

    Thank you for your help.

  7. We'll be on the Zuiderdam embarking March 8 to Panama Canal for our 20th anniversary. :)

We're currently booked in a VE verandah stateroom and the prices have dropped. They offered us an upgrade to VA (not really that different) or we could move up to an SS suite, with an upcharge of $700. It would cost +$2K to book that room today.

I'm curious if anyone has upgraded their room after the ship has set sail. What kind of deal did you get?

    Thanks.

  8. We'll be there for a day soon, for our 20th anniversary. [emoji2]

We're just not in the mood for an eco tour but that seems to be all there is.

So what else is there to enjoy for a day? We love ruins but I'm not sure Panama has any to offer. Maybe a tour of local towns or something off the beaten path?

    Suggestions?
