  1. Hi there. I booked a GTY veranda on the April 6 Silhouette sailing. We were assigned room 7169 (2A), which I am generally pleased with. I was looking at some web sites and noticed that higher categories (like 1C, 1B) are now the same price, and there are cabins available. There are a couple available that have larger balconies on decks 8 and 9 that I am particularly interested in.

I have no experience in this so I'm enlisting your help. Is it worth calling my TA to see if I can get moved into the available rooms without a fee? Or would that just be opening a can of worms?

Thanks for any and all input.

  2. Hi there fellow cruisers,

This is actually a repost from my roll call- but thought I would take a larger poll.

Anyone out there know what the best martini to order is? and does anyone know if there is also a champagne bar on the Soltice class ships?

Easy - try them all. Get the martini flight on the first day! :D

No champagne bar, at least not on Solstice.

  3. Thanks,

Unfortunately the search function is not working or maybe I can't figure it out but I looked at the spreadsheet and only found 1 cabin of the ones available to me.

I can live with obstructed view as long as I have some view. I would prefer a view sitting down but it it not a deal breaker if I am saving a good amount of $$$.

Look at the room number but don't specify ship. The cabins on the S class are mostly the same no matter which ship.

  4. My husband and I are thinking about booking a 2d Balcony on the Silhouette. I think most of the balcony rooms in this category are partially obstructed. What does it mean? The rooms we can choose from are mid ship. Does this mean the partially obstructed view is looking down on our balcony and facing the life boats or does it cover the view we can have by sitting out on our balcony and having something directly in front of us?

    Thanks for the help!

I don't know if this helps you (or if it's available for your cruise) but we booked a Balcony GTY (which was 2D) for our April 6 cruise. We ended up getting room 7169, which is not obstructed. You run the gamble of getting an obstructed view on deck 6 with a GTY but we lucked out a little.

At the top of the message boards there is a sticky for S Class rooms. There's a big spreadsheet in there with reviews of many of the rooms on these ships. You can see what people say about the obstructed views there. From what I've seen in pictures and reviews, the obstructed mostly seem to be blocked looking down only. But fish around in the S class spreadsheet.

    Good luck!

  5. If you read my post clearly, it wasn't a reply to your original post, it was to the comment made by justcrusn, who said they were jealous because I got a cabin assignment and they didn't. I made no assessment to your cabin as it wasn't stated anywhere. What you book is of no consurn of mine.:roll eyes:

You 100% were commenting on my cabin, the cabin number that I so clearly stated in my first post. How else would you have known to tell the other poster to not be jealous of my (your words) lowest category, obstructed view cabin.

What I book seems to be of great concern to you since you felt compelled to take the time out of your day to send a nastygram.

I'll blow you a kiss on sailaway, I hope it makes it over the lifeboat hanging in my face! :D

  6. That's not really early. You could research other available cabins within that category to see if switching makes sense.

Ah, interesting. This is my first time booking a GTY and I saw that a lot of cabins are assigned within 2 weeks of sailing.

I'll check what else is available, thank you!

  7. Just wanted to share that we were assigned a room this weekend for a sailing on April 6 on the Silhouette. Seems very early based on other things I've read.

I think I'm happy with the assignment (7169), so I'm thinking if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Am I missing anything?

  8. I am currently eating vegan and going on a cruise in 2 months. I feel this lifestyle choice is my responsibility and not the cruise line's. I will be fine in the buffet, many, many choices. In the MDR I'll do my best. But I will not impose this on the MDR staff. My burden to carry. Just my opinion.

  9. Hi there - loving your frank review.

I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express you mentioned during an upcoming trip in April. Can I ask how you booked the transportation from the hotel to the port, and how much it was? We get in late (11pm) the night before the ship sails and I'm concerned about the cluster that will inevitably ensue in the morning.

    Thank you!

  10. Thanks to everyone for your input.

The reason I would like traditional vs select is that I am the only person in my family that has cruised before, and I feel that the three new cruisers should have the very personal experience of having the same wait staff throughout the cruise. I think it adds to the overall experience, if you haven't had it before.

Just my opinion/preference. Call me crazy. ;)

  11. My family of four is on the wait list for traditional dining (late seating) for an April sailing on the Silhouette. I guess because we booked a little late. At any rate, I really don't want to do select dining. How does the wait list work? Is there a good chance we will get the late seating like we want? Any advice on what we can do to make this happen?

    Thank you.

  12. There is a fare offered currently called Q1 Benefit that offers the $75 OBC, however if you have that credit you are not eligible for the 123 Go Promo as it is not valid for the standard fare, which is the rate you must be booked under to qualify for the 123 perks. Basically it is 2 separate fare codes, either the $75 OBC booked under the Q1 rate OR the 123 Go booked under the Standard rate. You cannot get both. Hope this helps!

Very helpful, thank you! Funny how both a TA and Celebrity representative acted like I was crazy but a Cruise Critic member was able to so clearly explain.

    Thank you much.

  13. Hi all,

I am booked to sail April 6 on the Silhouette. We have the 123Go package, naturally.

I noticed, over the past couple of weeks, that when I am logged in to my Captains Club on the Celebrity web site, and I do a search for my specific cruise, there is a $75 OBC offered. It says "Promo Code 3" but when I click on offer terms and conditions, the section is blank. I called Celebrity about this a couple of weeks ago and the woman I spoke to said she showed nothing of the sort. I took a screen shot of the promo and sent it to my TA to no avail. Just went on again today and it is still there!

Does anyone have any advice on whether I should pursue this or give up? Has anyone had a similar experience?

  14. Great, great review. Going on the Silhouette in a few months and ate up every last detail you wrote!

I'm really stressing about the karaoke :p

No, really. I was on the Solstice and they did it in Quasar. I wonder why they didn't do that on the Silhouette? Much more of an intimate venue, IMO. I'll have to check on that and maybe make a suggestion once I'm onboard. I have my priorities and karaoke is one of them!

    First world problems, here. LOL
