  1. So today is the night before we leave for Florida, it seems like all I've been doing for the last 2 days is getting  everything for my packing list, packing into our packing cubes (compresses clothes and makes more room in the suitcases) so that, low and behold, between the three of us, we have only one checked bag for our flight  to FLL. Niiiice!  Tomorrow is travel day and can't wait to check into our Best Western hotel on Friday  night. It's about 3 miles from the port, I believe.

  2. So at the suggestion if another passenger on the roll call,  I'm starting a “live” thread so everyone can read about the ship/activities/excursions and so very much welcome other passengers recommendations on activities and restaurants. Awesome 👍😀

The more I think about it, the more I'll look forward to the margaritas/gin & tonics & Pina coladas at the social events! My work supervisor mentioned margaritas today, so

    let's get this started! ⛴️🛳️☸️🚢🍹

  3. Wow, it's been a long time since the Getaway cruise! Our family really enjoyed this cruise and we have subsequently been on the Escape. In my humble opinion, I really enjoyed the awesome service on the Getaway, not so much the itinerary, totally loved the Copacabana MDR and various live music, loved the a la carte sushi bar, liked the glow party for a short bit (music too loud), was sea sick for a fraction of a minute but ginger capsules saved the day. I find taking the stairs alot settles my queezy stomach, too.I will try to post my favorite pics while on the Getaway at a later time.

Overall, we're hooked on going on cruises, so whole heartedly recommend it!!!

  4. I am right there with you. I am a total beer snob. We play trivia every week at a pub that has 40 beers on draft that rotate out weekly and are usually craft beers you can ONLY get in casks/kegs. Aren't available in bottles anywhere. I used to be excited to see Left Hand Milk Stout on draft somewhere and now it might as well be Bud Light. Fortunately, I was able to stick to cocktails and hard liquor for most of my cruise (and for my upcoming cruise on the Gem). Also, I encourage anyone who isn't happy with the beer selection at District Brew House to try out their unique cocktails instead. They are very different from what you can get elsewhere on the ship.
Yes I agree as I ordered a Cannonball cocktail, a few times it was so good, which was very good and not too sweet!

  5. The only time I saw them onboard the Escape last week was as an appetizer served at the Cruise Critic Meet & Greet in the District Brewhouse. So a good reason to go to the Meet & Greet if you like them!
I ate one mozzarella cheese stick too at the M & G, dipped in marinara sauce, yummy!

  6. Snorkeled twice, no stings! It was a beautiful day on GSC. Thanks again for the door prize wine and the work on the M&G! It was fun!
You're welcome Art. Our family received many perks as we volunteered to arrange the M & G. Our last perk was having priority disembarkation, so nice thanks to Charry on the Escape. Getting back to this thread, visiting GSC was the best, too.

  7. Escape Mar 15, 2018 Yes and on the sea day prior, I wouldn’t have bet on it
Yes, the water was so calm that the tenders took many many passengers on Mar 15 2018. My hubby and daughter went for a second snorkeling swim while on GSC and received several of stinging red marks on their arms from what we guess are loose jelly fish tentacles. I snorkeled only once and no stinging happened to me.

  8. Awesome review! Did you go to the CC meet and greet, if there was one organized on your cruise? We're booked on the March 10th and can't wait to "escape" Eastern Canada to enjoy the warm sun in the south. May I ask as I am a foodie, what were your top 3 meals or snacks and top 3 cocktails? And I promise last question, did you have use of the thermal suite? Cheers!

  9. The beach is located within a 10 minute walk from the pier called Junkanoo Beach, walk towards the right from the pier along Bay Street, past the straw market (we bought alot of souvenirs and such there on the way back from the beach) continue walking around the Hilton on Marlborough Street, you will need to walk through the adjacent parking lot to reach the Junkanoo Beach. It's a small beach with a view of the ships in port and blue blue water, so beautiful. Please check for more recent CC reviews as my comments are over a year old. Cheers

  10. And we are all booked for March break 2018 and may explore Nassau, too! It is the last port of call, so we may stay on the ship, and will decide on the day the ship docks. Thanks again for your posting. Cheers!

  11. I originally wanted to go south to Smith Cove. It looks unique and so beautiful! We are not experienced travelers and getting a cab back was iffy due to the location. Seemed risky. It isn’t like if the cab failed to pick us up we could sprint back to the cruise port!

So, the plan was to play it safe and go to Royal Palms on 7-mile beach. We see this lady with a taxi van advertising a one-way fare to Royal Palms for $4pp. So that is what we did. It turns out that everyone in the van was headed there. Then the taxi lady suggests that she knows a better place with no admission and free chairs & umbrella. We asked about restrooms and food available - “yes, yes, and better than Royal Palms!” she says. Everyone agrees. (What did we just do?!) We pass Royal Palms and keep heading North. She drops us off at this hotel(?), that frankly looks abandoned. A little run down. Oh boy. We all agree for her to return at 1pm and pick us all back up. Pointing down a long corridor, she tells us that is the way to the beach (where on the corridor we did spot bathrooms - and off to the right what looks like a very nice bar & restaurant that isn’t open yet - sigh of relief). We are the first ones there and claim a “first row” set of lounge chairs and an umbrella. It is still very cloudy and the beach is practically deserted. I don’t really care where we got “dumped” at this point… the beach is gorgeous! Our umbrella came in handy at first to shield us from a few rain drops. Just a short sprinkle.

So, am I the first to ask, what was is the name of the hotel, and did the cab come back at 1 pm? [emoji32]

  12. The pool setup seemed smaller than other ships we've been on. We always were able to find a spot to sit around the pool in the shallow water. Chairs proved to be challenging at times. Quick tip is we would put our beach bag with our gear on a bench next to the music stage. We tend to sit on the edge of the pool more often than not and this worked out very well. Doing this gave chairs to others.
Great hint, thanks! On a bit of a tangent, did you get a chance to use the large cantilever hot tubs on the top deck, and if so what did you think, do you recommend using them?

  13. Nice review and recap. We have been on the Getaway AND Spirit (much smaller ship) and will be on the Escape in a few weeks. I prefer the pool setup on the Spirit than the Getaway, but heard that the Escape has a different pool setup than its sister ship the Getaway. What did you think? Cheers!

  14. We got them on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y5Y9Y34/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They were so useful and I'll be bringing all of them next time so the kids can have them in their room as well.

I just ordered the magnetic hooks although through the Canadian Amazon site. Thanks for the link! I am enjoying your review and pics, just fab!

  15. Would you please describe what the Vibe is and would a 13 year old be permitted? We are boarding at 12 noon so highly doubtful that we could buy passes anyway, as it sounds they will sell out. And this curious mind would like to know if I purchase the thermal pass what time of the day is it recommended to go? BTW, we are on the same cruise, too so hope to be able to meet ya at the meet and mingle. [emoji2]
