  1. No' date=' this is not typical...but we don't know which cruise you were booked on and it looks like you are trying to book another cruise.

If you are on the Dream cruise that was canceled, you will get a 100% refund PLUS the ability to book another cruise at a discount (they didn't say how much discount).

If you are booked on the Magic and are choosing to not sail, you will get a full refund OR the ability to book a future cruise at a discount (but not both).

Unfortunately you are going to need to play the "on hold" game and speak to a real live person. There's an error in there somewhere![/quote']

Sorry. We were on the Dream Oct 7 cruise. We received the email while waiting for a CM on the phone to try to book the Oct 10 Dream cruise with the discount. I guess we have two issues for them now! Ugh.

  2. Absolutely not.

As the text of the advisory states, everyone on the cancelled cruise will receive a full refund and a discount on a future cruise if they wish to cruise again.

As it states the refund will be credited back to you via the payment method, did you use a different card to make a deposit?

That's why we were surprised when we received the email saying $2500 was "non-refundable".

Currently on minute 95 of the Disney waiting music. That after my phone died suddenly after being on hold for an hour. We're trying to book the Oct 10 sailing of the Dream as well (we have a room on hold through the website).

Ugh. This is a pain. We found another place to kennel the dog, so we're just completely reworking the whole vacation. We have to rework Disney reservations as well.

This vacation is not very relaxing so far.

At least we're not in the path of this thing and danger. Hope everyone that is stays safe.

  3. I am brand new to this forum and cruising. We have a family of six going mid November on the Disney Dream. We are staying at Shafes of Green for 4 days before the cruise and renting a car at the airport for our stay at Disney and then hopefully use it to go to port Canaveral. 1st question is has anyone rented a car in Orlando and dropped off at the port? Second question is my sister is flying back to CA on Friday and is hoping that the 11:45 flight from Orlando would work. I know the ship docks at 7:30 or so but how long does it take to get off the ship and out to a car rental? Thank you

Car rental drop off is nearby, but requires shuttling over which can go great or horribly in my experience. I think it is just luck which experience you get.

As for flight out of Orlando, I'd be scared you wouldn't have enough time through the horrible MCO airport security lines.

  4. My two cents:

We've done 7 Disney cruises now and have used literally every form of transportation combinations.

I prefer driving my own car and parking at the terminal the best (we've only been able to do that once). It is the simplest, quickest, and least stressful, but it sucks making the 12-13 hour drive for us.

Taxi is my second favorite. Very quick and only slightly more stressful than private automobile. (This is also the cheapest for our family of 3.)

Disney transfers are complicated. I'll NEVER transfer from a Disney resort again (did this 3 times and every one was a horrible experience that got us to the port very late and wasted most of our day). Experience also seems to vary according to how nice your resort at Disney is - Pop Century, we weren't picked up until 1:30 and we were the first stop of 5 so we didn't get to the port until almost 3. Missed lunch on the boat and barely had time to do anything before muster. Pick up time was also after checkout, so we had to wait around in the lobby for 2.5 hours. Port Orleans pickup wasn't a great experience, but better, and pickup from Animal Kingdom Lodge was the best, but still not a pleasurable time.

The only time I would use DCL transfers again would be if my airline participated in the express check in that takes your bags to the airport for you. That was a wonderful convenience. However, our most commonly used airline doesn't participate.

Keep in mind, that if you use the DCL transfers back to the airport and your flight is before 2pm, they kick you off the boat early and won't let you have the last day sit down breakfast - only allowed to do Cabanas.

Waiting in DCL Transfer buses seems like eternity. Many times we've been at the port but waited for an 30-60 minutes before they let us off the bus with no explanation. Even buses that arrived after us unloading before us.

  5. In my opinion the cruises and the parks are polar opposites. I love both. If you want a few days of freedom and relaxation, do the cruise. If you want to have a blast being immersed in in-your-face high octane Disney fun that will wear you out by the end, do the parks.

  6. This is one reason why I hate the handing out of the sanitizer wipes. They are basically just for show. If the primary worry is norovirus, then hand sanitizers are almost completely ineffective. However, it makes people think they can skip hand washing because they know they're gonna get a wipe "that kills everything" as soon as they walk into a dining area.

    Hand washing can't be replaced.

  7. We're on the Fantasy right now and Captain America: Civil War releases on land this week. However, there is nothing in the Navigators saying it will be a Premear at Sea. Is it typical that they don't list it until later? We were really hoping it would premier while we were on the cruise.

  8. I am simply offering information that my friend who is a urologist gave me. I got a UTI from a hot tub on a cruise ship a couple years back and this led to the conversation with my doc about pools and hot tubs. I am simply passing along what he told me. For every study there is a counter study in medicine. One year coffee is good for you and the next is is not. I can only judge on my personal experience. Make your own decisions as you will.

I can find no studies implicating pools with UTIs. It is a myth.

  9. Can you handle the truth? From a Board Certified Urologist: Swimming in any public pool can lead to UTI or worse. Hot tubs multiply that risk by a factor of 10. And the amount of sanitizer needed to truly cleanse a fully packed cruise ship pool would cause chemical burns on peoples skin so they do the best they can. And 8 times out of 10 its ok.

We never use hot tubs and only use pools first thing in the morning if it was drained the night before and refilled with new water. There are some adults that urinate in pools, especially after consuming too much alcohol. But worse are the adults who do not keep themselves clean in the bottom region. That is where the worse bacteria come from. Use the pool at your own risk!

    That is a myth. http://www.wakehealth.edu/Urology/Pediatric/UTIs-in-Children.htm

  10. Space available on a DCL ship is based on age of kids (as well as cabins and muster station spaces). As above' date=' the computer will ask for kid ages before telling you if a cruise is available. Each age group is slotted for a given number of kids. If that number is reached, they will not allow any more children of that age to be booked on the cruise. This is designed to prevent kids being turned away from the space while on board because the adult:kid ratio has been reached.

I have seen people turned away from lounges when there were no more seats or standing spaces. I've also seen very popular acts scheduled in the WDT for adult only shows.

Back to kids...the problem with allowing kids to move up is that the kids at the top of the age appropriate range don't want to hang with the younger ones. In the Edge and Vibe, they just don't come. In the same way some 10 year old kids declare the Lab to be "too young," the 13s and 14s in the Edge don't want to hang with 10 year olds. I have seen parents advocating to allow 9s into the Edge. When the 10s enter, the 13s declare it to be a "baby program" and leave.

I just got off a cruise on another line where they are strict with ages. NO moving up at all is allowed. If a family desires siblings to be together, the older child is allowed to move down to be with the younger. OK, there were a lot fewer kids than on a typical DCL cruise (800 on Thanksgiving week compared to 1200 on the Magic), but the policy worked beautifully. There was no "dumbing down" of the programming, which has been a DCL problem since day 1 AND families were still allowed to place siblings together. It was up to the family whether the older kid needed/wanted to be in the younger program level.

DCL in general does a good job, but there are things they could learn![/quote']

While I understand your point, I think strict cutoffs ignore that all children develop differently - both emotionally and mentally/physically. If the decision is indeed based on the assessment by a youth activities counseling supervisor, then I would say that is the best system that could exist. If it's just "your parents sign a form and whined a lot", then not so much.

If you lined up every 10, 11, and 12 year old on the ship, I guarantee that no one could sort them correctly by their chronologic age. But I'm sure if Disney is hiring counselors who are good at their jobs, that they could group the ones that would match up mentally and emotionally the best.

  11. That cruiseshipdeaths.com site actually lists the woman jumping off a balcony. Says case is still unfolding. It states she was a member of a deaf group on the cruise (a huge number on this cruise many of whom had deafness as a symptom of other disorders) and jumped off 10th floor balcony). This is separate from the previously linked death of the 72 year old man (who died after our unscheduled stop in Puerto Rico).

Weird set of events on our cruise.
