  1. I think they need to make elite status harder to achieve.....then it would not be such a "zoo" or go suite class....we thoroughly enjoyed our TA

while we are loyal X cruisers (Elite Plus) we will only do Azamara or Oceania T/As in the future...the past T/A on "Sillie" was a disaster...too many Elites in too many small venues...the breakfast area had to be expanded...too little to late on day 5 or so...and the HH was a ZOO...too many people and not enough servers.

So sorry...as we have supported the X product over so many years...and will still cruise them for other cruises...but not for a T/A...just too many Elites who love X...but not the venues/staff to support them!! LuAnn

  2. I think that if you are in an inside or balcony that Celebrity is quite reasonable

QUOTE=JanineM;51893033]We were on Summit for the Christmas cruise, and the experience has left us wondering if Celebrity has lost its way and badly needs management help.

Who is Celebrity's target market? I'd argue that they have no idea. The activities, entertainment, and even the service levels are all over the place. I used to be able to tell my friends that Celebrity provided a subdued experience. I'd always say, "think martinis as the ship sails away, and not drunks doing relay races in the pool", but after this cruise I can't say that.

I'm not stuck in the past - I know that things change and to succeed a company has to market itself to changing demographics. But I think Celebrity hasn't figured that out yet. In some ways it is clinging to the past (the string quartets), but in others it's clearly going after the under 30s (Demi Lovato and the silent discos) or the budget traveler (drinks included). The three don't necessarily meet - especially when you're paying beaucoup dollars for a vacation.

Anyone else see the same thing?

  3. It really depends on what you are willing to ask for. And to be honest...i think that most don't ask for much. while I don't believe in running my butler ragged, they do have a fairly broad range of powers...especially in the Penthouse where you should be under the care of the head butler. I believe that they like interesting and creative request that allows them to show off just what they can do....If you don't mind someone handling your clothes....(just think of it the way you do with the dry cleaners)

They will unpack (and pack at the end) your luggage...handle pressing and dry cleaning issues..and if you don't abuse it it will likely be free....make some friends on cruise critic or go on a tour with people from cruise critic...then invite them all over for a party......we did....and the butler Alano set up an amazing assortment of appetizers and several bottles ( i think it was 10) of red and white wine (not bad wine either)....psst...there was no charge you want high tea in your room...no problem.....ordering from luminae, the MDR or the Premium room service menu?....not an issue...( again free ) you like a special scotch or brandy not on the list they give you?....ask and if it is not too outrageous....and available in the area the ship travels they will get it. I asked for a bottle of 18yr old very rare glenmorangie single malt scotch....it runs 120-150 a bottle and they got it....no problem infact the beverage manager came to talk with me personally they too like interesting little challenges... don't go crazy...but indulge a bit.....have fun

We are staying in the penthouse suite on our upcoming cruise and have a few questions. Does anyone have any suggestions of what we should ask our butler for. We were also considering having lunch each day in our room, should we ask for a menu for the main dining room or luminaire? How are the specialty restaurants on Summit? Does the Butler deliver alcoholic beverages such as a margarita to your room? Should we tip our butler after each time he does something for us or at the end of our stay? And how much should we typically tip? Any other tips a suggestions will be greatly appreciated we want to make the most of our vacation.
  4. If you haven't tried it already try toasted head chardonnay the costco's near us have had it recently at a very low price.....and while not a 90+ wine on wine enthusiast it is better for the price than yellowtail.....if your store has it ..give it a try

I am definitely not a wine snob. I purchase Kirkland (Costco) or Yellow Tail at Costco as my faves! We had the Premium Beverage Package and the sommelier always brought us wines included in the package. I'm not interested in paying extra for more expensive wines.
  5. Pointless thread

    1. How to work their web site.

    2. How they determine who gets emails and who doesn't.

    3. Why their site tells you there are no cabins available when there are plenty.

    4. Why some celebrity reps can't answer your questions and others can.

    5. Why your particular cruise was just canceled and you find out two weeks later.

Yet, we still sail with them and love the product!

Sent from my iphone using forums

  6. Gelato is NOT included...was in the Penthouse on Silhouette in November and had to pay for it.

Sushi 5 is included, except the $10 Wasabi prepared at the table. There are many good non-sushi items like the Kobe Slider. There are beers made in Japan.

I don't know about Gastro but I would assume yes. Gelato is included. Lunches at Specialty also.

They scan room key at end and you sign a $0 check.

  7. Did you try choice air?.....usually the best prices

    \

We book a cruise over a year ago on the Silhouette leaving April 2. Got a decent price, great cabin 9th deck, on the bump, drink package and $650 in OBC. I work for the schools and this is our spring break--statewide we all have the same week off. Airfares are crazy---for 2 people flying out of Detroit cost is $1,800!!! IF we could take the exact same me flight:mad: a week later cost is $775 for 2 people. I can NOT take the day off before or after break. - I have been looking at airfare since June, even then it was over a $1,200 for 2 of us. Very disappointed--- not at Celebrity-- but airlines
  8. That is only true for domestic flights.....for europe it is nearly a year...asia 6 months out

You may be looking at airfare a little too early. 90 days or less prior to departure will usually get you better airfares. Where are you flying to? Keep looking and you'll find something so you don't have to cancel.
  9. Sorry this happened to you but.......the bottom line is.....GET IT IN WRITING......people make mistakes and if you want to hold Celebrity to the mistakes of the agents you must be able to prove that your version of events is the correct one.

I have a question and was hoping for some recommendations.

During our cruise in September 2016 Celebrity was offering a deal with 50% off for the second guest plus OBC and a reduced deposit of $100.00 per person. The future Cruise team booked us on a future cruise they picked out to take advantage of the offer and we received the booking confirmation the final night of the cruise. The representative confirmed multiple times that we could move the reservation to another cruise, just keep the booking number the same. We have done this before with no problems.

The top paragraph states "book now and secure your benefits" that goes on to say they will book a cruise for us and when we return home to call our TA or Celebrity to change the reservation. "the reservation is fully flexible, transferrable to any ship/sail date, and refundable".

I called to change to a different cruise and Celebrity is saying they cannot change the cruise without losing the perks as offer is no longer available. My TA even had the issued sent to Celebrity resolutions where they said no.

For those of you that were able to book this deal in September, am I missing something?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Debra

  10. WOW......you must have had some very important stuff in that backpack....unless my passport was in there I would have left it and just bought anything I needed. you were both lucky and resourceful to get there only 2 hours later than your partner

This is my first live posting of a Cruise so bear with me. I will try and answer any questions in a timely manner.

Introduction - I am Jim and my partner is Iain and we are from the Sunnyvale, CA about 1 hours south of San Francisco in the middle of Silicon Valley. This is our 20th cruise and our 7th TransAtlantic on Celebrity, as a matter of fact we have never sailed another line. We love the Celebrity product and have never found a reason to shift to another line.

We booked this cruise about 2 years ago. Normally I book the first day the new cruises are announced in order to get the best selection of cabins. We always travel suites and booked Celebrity Suite 1615 a nice hump cabin for this cruise.

Lesson One - Make a check list and make sure you read it before leaving the house!

I wanted to start my posts with a lesson I learned the hard way. This comes from a seasoned traveler who has traveled over 2 million miles by air on business.

We started our trip rushing to make a 8AM flight out of SFO. I had everything planned and on a checklist. Suite cases were by the front door everything was checked off my check list and by backpack was next to my living room chair with all my electronics and travel documents. I loaded the rental car up and off we went. We dropped the car at Avis and was on the SkyTrain to the terminal when I looked down and said to Iain - where’s my backpack? Panic time as I remembered I had not put it in the car. Luckily Iain had his travel documents and passport with him. I had Iain take the suite cases to check in and I booked an Uber to try to run home and back again.

Of course I was delayed further by my credit card on Uber expiring and having to update my profile and then the driver going to the wrong terminal to pick me up. I texted the driver and he finally circled around and grabbed me burning up 15 minutes of precious time. Of course the San Francisco traffic started building up by that time also. I didn’t get back to the house until 7:30 knowing there was no way I could make it back in time to make the flight.

Iain is not a techie and hates cellphones so of course he didn’t have his phone with him (another lesson learned by both of us). I had him paged at SFO and told him to take off and I would get to Rome somehow.

I immediately called ChoicAir and was hoping that their “Guarantee” would be helpful. They tried all types of things but AmericanAirlines didn’t have any connections that could get me there until at least Sunday (a day after the ship sails). The did find a Lufthansa flight but said it would cost me $900 for a coach seat. The reservation I had was in Business Class L. Luckily I remembered I had taken out Insurance and called my agent. She told me not to worry and make a claim prior to booking. Great idea.

Thinking out of the box I checked United Airlines and found SuperSaver Points flight out of San Jose Airport only 10 minutes away that would leave in 2 hours. I immediately booked it for 30,000 miles. The flight was San Jose to Vancouver to Frankfurt and then on to Rome. I would arrive just 2 hours after Iain.

The next task was to try to reach Iain. His flight was already airborne and by schedules I saw I had a 1 hour window after I got to Vancouver before his PHL-FCO flight departed. Tried as I may, having him paged 3 times and no response I finally sent him an e-mail in hope he would somehow check his e-mail.

I then remembered that the hotel booking was in my name. I called Hilton and had them add his name added to the reservation so he could check into our room.

To make a long story short - I arrived safe and sound. Iain remembered he had his Ipad with him and was able to retrieve the message and we were joyfully reunited at FCO Airport Hilton.

Let’s hope the rest of the trip is relaxing.

  11. Don't eat too much...and work out at the gym

    Hi,

I'm on the Celebrity for 10 nights on Dec 11. I lost 70 lbs in last 1.5 years with weight watchers. I have gained back 10 lbs and am working to get that off and an additional 15 lbs to get to my goal weight. I would really like to lose at least 5 lbs by our cruise.

For first time ever we have the premium beverage package and it's first time just hubby and me. So I want to have a good time on the cruise. I don't need to stuff myself but I want to enjoy the food and drink. I am thinking maybe I will be real sensible at breakfast & lunch and then splurge more at dinner. Also, I will either go to the gym or walk around the ship once a day.

What are your tips for either staying the same or gaining no more than 1-3 lbs during your cruise?

  12. i THINK THAT THEY WOULD PROBABLY LIKE CARNIVAL BETTER BECAUSE OF THE PARTY ATMOSPHERE AND YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC....OR AT LEAST ROYAL CARIBBEAN

I am needing some advice on an upcoming college senior graduation trip. I am mostly wondering if the 22 year olds will be happy and have fun on a Celebrity cruise or if they will be too young. The cruise we are looking at is the 6 day western Caribbean aboard the Reflection, Jan, 2018.

Myself, daughter (who will be 22 at sailing time) her best friend (also 22) and her mom and I would like to go on one more mom and daughter trip to celebrate college graduation and before the girls start "adulting" and we will have a challenge trying to get together.

The girls really wanted to do a Disney cruise but their itineraries came out this week and they are too high for our budget. My daughter and I have cruised Disney with our family and I have cruised Royal Caribbean with a friend. The only cruise I could find that fit our dates and budget was the Celebrity one. I know that my friend and I would love it, but am worried that the crowd will be too old for the girls.

The girls are pretty mature for their age, and are pretty easy going. Although they go to parties, they don't really get into the big party scene and have a lot of fun playing volleyball and hosting game nights for their friends. They are also content to chill out and read by a pool and do spa stuff.

The four of us travel together well except of the fact that the two friends love to shop and my kid and I don't. This is why we thought that a cruise might be ideal because we can have fun together time and my kid and I can dive on port days while they go shopping.

I'm not worried about the port days, but this cruise has two sea days. Are there things for 20 somethings to do? Will they feel bored? What is the night life like if they do want to go dancing and such?

Our other alternative is to just go to one of the caribbean islands.

I will welcome all opinions as I am not familiar with Celebrity at all.

    Thanks in advance!

  13. I's a bit late at this point and, any issues can be resolved between the butler and o n board conceirge. I may mention the issues after the cruise.

Please telephone Celebrity and let them know you are not happy with the service....If you don't have a contact there yourself I suggest you contact Captains Club and ask who you should ask for to register a concern. They should at least be honest if they cannot do something.

I think I can suggest answers to a couple of your points...on both our cruises with Luminae window tables could not be pre booked, they were very popular. On the nights we dined in Luminae (7.30ish) there were often a few people waiting specifically for windows even though there was lots of space elsewhere. For you to arrive at 7pm would mean for an hour they would be refusing others that table and then facing the question 'why were they allowed to book when we can't?'...We requested a window seat in Tuscan at 7pm first night last cruise and they told us they could not promise, they could at the start of service but not an hour in....Fair enough, we got there, they sat us at another table with a glass of wine and as a window seat became free we were quietly moved to it. Each time we arrived at Tuscan they remembered our preferences and always looked after us. I am sure in Luminae they will do the same...

Re wine choices...I think our only criticism last cruise would be the fluidity of wine choices. When we asked to see the wine menus anywhere often what we chose was no longer available and had been replaced by....Good choices but I'll bet the shoreside concierge genuinely cannot get an answer as to what is available. If I was you I would ask them to chill a couple of good bottles chosen for you by the Sommelier....If you don't like what is there when you board get the butler to sort...Re your previous spirit request, I honestly don't know why this hasn't been sorted. In the 'old days' when your contact was direct with the Michael's Club concierge she would simply know the answer or find out really easily. The longer the chain of asking goes out the less likely is a speedy response....

I honestly think this lack of response is spoiling your pre cruise enjoyment...As I said, phone, and just ask them to be honest and open about what they can/cannot do and express your frustration.

We have rarely had any issues with Celebrity but when we have had little blips we have registered our issues and then allowed them to sort...much better for you to do this now than board and have your first day ruined by champagne being left chilling in your room instead of a nice bottle of something you would enjoy!

I think several of us would be interested in knowing how you get on so keep us in touch. Sincere best wishes for these issues to be sorted and for you to get on with enjoying that pre cruise excitement.

  14. I thought it was 50 for dinner

Yes you can if space is available. However, there is a surcharge for the guests. I think it was $10 for breakfast, $20 for dinner (don't remember the exact amounts). This also may be waived depending upon the maitre'd.
  15. Don't photograph well huh?.....not vampires I hope....Not sailing on the same cruise line as damn vampires!....:D

Thank you. I knew about the Chandris and the X, but not about Michael.

As mentioned, the drinks are free in Michael's club. We did have a drink package, but rarely used a bar tender outside of Michaels.

We did not go to Michaels until the 3 night of our cruise. Too busy! The Concierge called our stateroom to check on us. The next evening, we walked in the door and the concierge immediately jumped up and said "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. H----! So she must have had our photos. I am not sure how she recognized us from the photos because we do not photograph well. :D

  16. yES....i got the initial call...seemed good...but, after that it was down hill. I hope she is better with others

Carrie contacted me by phone about 3 week prior to cruise. I found her to be delightful and engaging. She took care of all of our requests. I later sent her an e-mail to make a couple dinner reservations and heard back from her in a couple day with confirmation.

Sorry to hear you had a different experience with her.

  17. if you were dealing with Carrie...don't hold your breath

We'll see, but I think it varries by Concierge. On our upcomming cruise on Wednesday, we were contacted the furtherst out yet, about three weeks. We had a number of requests, which there was no need to respond to, and most requests were handled well. We had one request for some ground trasnportation that she had to ask a destination concierge to help with, but we never heard back. Another odd ball question about parking at a port where we overnight was not answered, but I just got in touch with the port myself. And finally, we were given a canned answer about which nights were going to be chic nights. She said the second night would be a chic night, but we're in port until 8pm so I doubt that will be the case, and more likely it will move. When I questioned her she said it was too soon to know but never confirmed. My partner should have a spa appointmet booked around it, and we'll entertain around it, so it would have been nice to know as we have friend onboard.

In the end, we'll see how effective she was when we board on Wednesday and as the cruise progresses as we had a number of more specual requests for this upcomming B2B cruise.

    Happy sailing,

    Jenna

  18. This has been my experience as well, We asked to swap the champagne for a chardonnay as we don't care for champagne and the concierge sad no problem...I will get you a list of chardonnay you can choose from...no list ever came, She sent a list of spirits for the room...but, mentioned that I could ask for something off the list..which I did. She said that she would have to ask and see if they had it on the ship.....never mentioned again. i asked if she could set up a reservation for a window table in luminae on the first night for 7:00....just the first night and gave the time knowing they can't just hold a table all night....her response was that you don't need a reservation for luminae but, that she would let them know we prefer a 7:00 dinner....after explaining it again she said she understood what i wanted and why....but, never contacted us to say if it was set up or not....other questions went unanswered.....very frustrating

shore side concierge in MHO is a waste of time; I received an e-mail from a Shore side concierge on our last cruise; stating "let me know if there's anything I can do for you on your upcoming cruise". I responded with a couple of very minor requests. They never responded, or e-mailed us back. My opinion, don't waste your time. :(
