  1. The most disappointing part came when they showed us the dessert menu. The menu we saw outside had mentioned cherries jubilee so we had been looking forward to that all afternoon. But the printed menu before us only had some strange Top Chef creations instead. I ended up with a lemon sorbet. Luckily the chocolate lava is on the classics part of the menu and it was good.

You should have just asked for the cherries jubilee.......I am sure you would have got them

  2. one reason the cruise companies don't do more is, that you are an adult and are expected to take care of your own hygiene. I always find it odd that when something unpleasant is part of our lives these days....even very small things like Noro that people right off expect someone else to handle the problem.

No one wants to jump in and tale action themselves. they want the government or a cruise line or the place they work to fix all their problems

Just read that there is an outbreak of novovirus on the eclipse which I am on next week and do not understand why the cruise companys do not do more to make us wash our hands. In normal times it is still possible to enter the dining rooms without using gel but I suppose the main problem is as to why people do not wash there hands after going to the toilet.
  3. Family considerations can be a bit of a pain when you have a chance at a bargain like that. The perks are VERY sweet in RS not to mention the bigger cabin. I really love the PH on the S class ships.....I only wish Celebrity put the M class PH balcony on the S class ships.

Different cruises. First is the Connie cruise we are on this August - more or less sold out now. The other is a Reflection Med cruise, also this August for comparison with a S class ship ;).

RSs for our Connie cruise went like this:

    Actually finished at $2969pp

Considered upgrading to the RS, but didn't want to go to only having 1 bathroom for our family when currently we have 2 (2 separate cabins). Additionally, didn't really want to give up the C1 aft view. Only the PH was tempting :).

  4. of course....

We were doing a land tour in italy a few years ago ...we had booked a day trip to capri but, ....there were 3 cruise ships there that day....we could not get to see anything....was totally jammed with cruisers

This is going to be fantastic.:D

We will be the only ship. 5,400 less tourists to deal with.

Buses, taxis, ferries, beaches, less crowded.

  5. Just, curious.....

what does it matter if the Breakaway is there or not?.....why would this be an issue?

We booked this cruise. And when it comes to planning, I am beyond ridiculous.

Usually, when in Bermuda, the NCL Breakaway is also there. However, that week it is not.

So, where is it? I went to the NCL web site, and nothing there for the Breakaway. I then went to the Roll Call. There is no roll call for that week.

That is really strange for a ship of that size.

I then started googling, and found the Port of Halifax Nova Scotia has the Breakaway there June 29.

    Strange, huh?

Another strange thing, at least for me, is our cruise roll call is just about non-existent.

Must have something to do with the “Bermuda Triangle”.

  6. Without the "huge corporate cruise line" the ship you so want to sail on would not be possible.....so wanting to use the small business is not such a great thing...plus...even using a TA you will want to use the larger services as you will get better a rate and more OBC than if you used a single TA working from His/Her home

Unless you are doing an onboard booking, I can't imagine ANY reason to book directly with a cruise line instead of a TA. Anything that the cruise line can offer you, a TA can offer you. But, a good TA can offer lots of advantages from OBC over and above the cruise line offering, group pricing and/or additional perks.

The money we have saved from booking with the right TA(s) has more than paid totally for several other cruises we have taken.

Plus, many times you are dealing with a small businessperson rather than a huge corporate cruise line.

  7. do you have any paperwork from the original booking showing the cabin you were supposed to be in?

I booked another Alaskan cruise on the Infinity for this September whilst on my cruise on the ship last June. I got a great deal and was very happy booking the same cabin that I was in.

Today I was checking out my cruise details as I know final payment is due soon and was also checking out cabin reviews when I noticed my cabin was getting mediocre reviews and talking about an obstructed view.

Well I knew my cabin didn't have an obstructed view as it was aft looking over the wake, so I thought I should check and I have been booked in the wrong cabin!

I have no idea how this has happened as I made such a point with the X rep that I wanted the same cabin again.

I can't talk to them until tomorrow but my TA says it will cost me more.

Really unhappy at the moment as I just don't know what will happen and even if my cabin us available.

    Thoughts anyone?

  8. There are only 2 classes....M Class and S class.....all the information on all the ships is available on the Celebrity web site. Click on plan a cruise ...then ships

I'm new to Celebrity. Is there a site that shows the different Celebrity ships and the classes they're in?

    Thanks!

    Tom

  9. Why didn't you ask his name?

This was not our first time on the Summit, and we've been to Bermuda several times before. So for us, the cruise was really the destination last week. While we didn't experience everything the cruise had to offer (What in the world is Indulgence???), we did a lot. So here are the highlights you all might be interested in:

    Cabin 2094 - Outside View Deck 2

Our family of four stayed in this cabin while my parents were in a concierge class veranda cabin on deck 8. When we came on board, we were a bit nervous as the cabin was clearly made up for just two guests. It wasn't until later that evening that the upper berths were set up and extra towels were delivered. We had to beg for extra toiletries, like shampoo. It took a few days before our stateroom attendant finally understood that one tube of shampoo simply wasn't enough for four people.

    The pros:

    • The cabin was large enough for the four of us and could have accommodated a fifth passenger on the pull-out sofa
    • Tons of storage - more space than we actually needed
    • Great location - low and center, and very quiet

    The cons:

    • One of the upper berths was held together with scotch tape
    • Sheets were ripped - some holes large enough for our 5 year old to stick her foot through
    • One of the soap dishes in the shower was broken
    • When it started raining, the window leaked (water coming into the ship is simply no good)

The biggest con of all was our stateroom attendant. Not only did we have to beg for things like shampoo, he was often very late to make up our room, sometimes rushing through it cutting corners because his shift was almost over. We asked for a pitcher of water with our ice bucket. Ice was no problem, but the water was something else. On the first day, we were told Celebrity doesn't allow pitchers of water in the cabins. My parents had one in theirs, and I told him so. The next day, he told us that they don't like to use the pitchers for water because they all smell like coffee. But he would see what he could do. On the third day, we finally got the water, and there was no coffee smell. We had to resort to calling guest relations for everything because he was just unable to do anything for us - even giving us laundry bags. When filling out my survey from Celebrity earlier today, I would have mentioned him by name. But he never told us his name. There was no card in the cabin with his name on it. I honestly don't think he ever learned our names either. (Thankfully, we've traveled on Celebrity before. So I know this is not the norm, and it will not stop me from booking with them again.)

    The Food

The food on the Summit is pretty good. Most nights, dinner was excellent. We skipped the Top Chef night to eat in the Tuscan Grill, which was very nice. I never ate in the Normandy. So I can't say whether or not it was an improvement. We had lunch in Bistro on 5 one day, which was excellent. The service there was top notch, and they were very accommodating with our kids who can be extremely picky eaters. The cafe on deck 10 had lots of good options. But it was very disorganized during peak meal times. Lines were often moving in two different directions at the same time, plates were heavy and the trays that used to be there were gone, and it took several trips for us to carry silverware, heavy plates of food and drinks for four people before we could sit down to eat. Back in the main dining room, our waiter and assistant were great. They did everything they could to make sure we had a great experience. Unfortunately, they didn't get the message that we were celebrating my dad's birthday yesterday, and there was no cake, candles or singing. But we know that's not the waiter's fault.

    Fun Factory

The ladies at the Fun Factory did an amazing job. There weren't a lot of kids on board last week. But they all had a blast. The programs were entertaining, and the kids always had a good time. We even took advantage of the dinner parties on at sea days, which our kids thought was the best thing ever. Our daughter was practically in tears when she had to leave, and both of our kids can't wait to go on another cruise just to go back to the fun factory.

    Entertainment

The first show we went to was a comedian who was downright rude. I don't think there was anybody in the audience who wasn't offended by his off color jokes, and we walked out after about half an hour. Fortunately, it was uphill from there. The Summit singers and dancers were good. The iMagic show was great, and our kids even enjoyed it. The second comedian of the week was very good, and it was literally standing room only that night.

We're not big drinkers, and we don't really gamble. The only time we were even in the casino was for the muster drill the first day. And although we did look for the Rooftop Terrace, it was hard to find and too cold to sit outside once we did find it. All in all, we did have a great week, and we're booked on the Reflection for our next cruise. We're hopeful that the newer ship on a spring break week will be more our speed. Perhaps the next dry dock for the Summit should focus on the cabins more than the public spaces. Just my two cents.

Thanks for reading, and happy sailing!

  10. Why would you go to the MDR if you were in the PH? Luminae and all the specialty restaurants available at no additional charge......also,...why would you eat in the room?

We returned yesterday from our second stay in 6147 on the Constellation. Room was in a little better condition. Must have been a dry-dock since we were on in 2014. TV in the bathroom had been removed but the hot water in the outside hot tub worked this trip.

Our butler (Alex) was superb. The refrigerator was kept completely full of every beverage you could imagine. Service was outstanding. We ate every meal in the room. I've been on the Constellation twice and still don't know what the MDR looks like.

  11. what i wonder is...why Celebrity cut the size of the balcony so much in the PH on the S class?....a bigger balcony is pretty easy structurally and is great for parties. The balcony on the S class is like what?...10% of the size of the balcony on the M class? I hope the new Edge class does not continue the trend....but not holding my breath

  12. Captains club points are better ....yes? if it's a push on price...why not?...and depending on time of year...if it will be cold...they may not be spending much time on the balcony

What do you mean wind and cooler climes???

The UK is perfect in every way!:D:D

    Especially Yorkshire.

If you read the posts concierge is a nothing level. If I couldn't change to a SV, I would stay put. The hump is a sought after location, but we love the aft.

  13. Think you are getting "very upset" for no reason....if Celebrity got a request for an accessable cabin and no more were available that they would move people around or offer an upgrade to those booked into the accessable cabins. I am sure that unless all the accessable cabins were actually booked to people that really needed them that Celebrity , would make a disabled person suffer in a non-accessable cabin.

As a full time disabled person, I'm surprised, and very upset, that Celebrity handed out an accessible cabin so early. What normally happens is that they don't give them out to able bodied persons until after final payment. That way, we disabled can book an accessible cabin up to final payment. I totally fault Celebrity for giving out an accessible cabin too early.
  14. Loyalty is not going to be held based on Loyalty perks.....these are given as a "thank you" for your loyalty which the line must earn based on their product

I have read the benefits for Elite Plus and from my point of view there is no real carrot to achieving this status that would hold my loyalty. Tell me I am wrong please.
  15. that animation is freaking me out

Wrap up. I’m sure you are all happy about that:D. Celebrity. It’s still a good product. Is it the same as when I boarded Century in 2001? No. Was the service as good as it was back then? Not so much, but it still is good service. Since there are so many different venues, they have to split their staff all over the place. The friendliness is still there. The elegance of years ago has faded but I guess maybe that is where cruising today is heading:(. More casual. I suppose it’s due more to airlines charging a king’s ransom for multiple bags. My guess is that Celebrity too is paying more attention to their larger ships and trying to get away from the smaller mid-size ships. Is it a good thing? Is that what people want? I assume so since that is the way they are steering the company. I will always love Celebrity and I will continue to sail with them because the perks are still pretty good as an Elite member. Next time I will just pack lighter and lower my expectations from years gone by experiences.

If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to try to answer them

    Jeff

  16. Get what you are saying......have to say that is my first time with the "old adage" must be alot of frogs where you are from. I thing we might have a few adages out here about jackalopes and i think one dealing with something that happens to a gerbil in a bar.......not sure about that one

Hi Jazz. Yes there were good things of course. I mentioned quite a few. I hadn't been on a Celebrity cruise in a few years because I was ill and couldn't travel. It's like the old adage. If you put a frog in cold water and turn on the heat, you don't really notice the increased temp. But throw a different frog in the water with the other frog, and it will jump out. I guess these changes were gradual to the very frequent cruiser, but if you haven't been through the gradual and went from your last experience to the new experience, you do notice a stark difference

    Jeff

  17. WOW......you must originally be from Europe. I can't believe you miss spending 2 hours on dinner unless, you were in a big group of friends...

This was our 13th cruise on Celebrity, 3rd on the Summit and I was really disappointed with the MDR. It was chaos. After the refurb, they re-did the MDR. On deck 4, it seemed that was dedicated mostly to Select dining. Deck 5 seemed to be either the early and late seating dining. I always liked the late seating because it was always nice relaxing after a day ashore, taking a nap and getting ready for dinner. Stopping for a drink before dinner at Rendezvous. The first night was downright frustrating because none of the tables had the table numbers on them. The waiters had a print of the tables and weren’t familiar with the new layout. We were seated at one table, met our waiter, who was great and were presented with the menu. It really was a pared down selection. You had the everyday staples, but the other choices were limited. I remembered a soup, salad, sorbet, main course, dessert format. This was basically Olive Garden menu. I liked the way it used to flow. I enjoyed a 2-hour meal. It was paced. Now it just seemed rushed. We were seated at table 535, or at least we thought. The second night, we were told we were in the wrong spot and then moved again. We got a new waiter and assistant. Chon and Freddy. They were wonderful. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good, but it seems Celebrity is trying to push you out of the MDR to go to a specialty restaurant if you wanted the old style service you used to get in the MDR. BTW, no more Captains table. That is gone as well. The area where we sat was condensed so they could add more tables because more than half of the deck 5 MDR on the port side was removed to make way for Luminae. They were really pushing the specialty restaurants but we didn’t bite. As it was, we met a couple who bought the 3 restaurant deal online, but when they got on board, they couldn’t get a reservation and had to use the MDR. They didn’t get a refund even though they did pay for it and couldn’t use it. From the people I spoke with, Tuscan was just OK, Luminae was just OK. Can’t comment on them personally. The food in the MDR was good overall. I am just not crazy about the way it changed from the old days. I spoke to the head maître d and he said he didn’t like the changes either. We spoke about 45 minutes by the pool one day. He said that’s the way things are heading too. The freestyle way. Plus, it’s cheaper. Money talks I guess. Celebrity really changed when Royal bought them.

I know there were tons of questions about the Chic night. Not so Chic. Unless jeans, shorts, sandals are the new Chic. The dress was not so dressy. I felt overdressed in a tie.

Overall it was a great cruise. Anytime not at work is fun. Would I still cruise on Celebrity? Of course. Would I sail on Summit? Yes. I guess we just have to adapt to “Modern Luxury”

    Next….Canyon Spa experience.

  19. Did you save anything that shows the perks you were supposed to get?

I booked directly. When I pull up the reservation on the Celebrity web page, it still shows the total on board credit of $600 for the stateroom, which is what i was told when I reserved our suite. The booklet they sent us, however, shows $300. Daughter is third person and I was told during the reservation proves with the Celebrity rep that she would get the non-alcoholic beverage package. The confirmation they sent me states:

    Promotions Applied

    GOBETTER OBCGRT

    EXTRA SALE

    Whatever that means.....

I assume the bev package and Internet are included because we are in a suite:

•Complimentary Premium Beverage Package for all guests in suite. Minors will automatically receive a Premium-Non-Alcoholic Beverage Package

    •Complimentary unlimited Internet access

But the agent I just spoke with told me its not included for minors....only for adults.

  20. Maybe, another line would better serve your needs.....perhaps crystal would be a better fit

The advertising has been that local foods would be picked up at the ports of call to offer "locally sourced" food options. Never happened, asked others, never seen it either. Just wish Celebrity would get there act together to deliver on the expectations they establish. We are elite plus and love celebrity but don't like the game being played.

FYI- lawn club grill also dropped in quality. We had one main dining room lunch and I won't even begin on that subject. We appreciate Luminae and realize how lucky we are to travel this way. The main dining room experience has slipped so much in the last three years. I won't even compare to before that!
