  1. No offense but those flip flops are exactly what my wife might wear to the beach....not suitable at all for a restaurant setting.....well maybe burger king

I was just reading over the dress code for the MDR and it says that flip flops are not allowed. On all of my prior cruises, I have worn a nice sundress to dinner on non-formal nights, and I usually wear that with black flip flops. These aren't the $2 plastic kind of flip flops you wear to the beach. They are nicer fabric ones that I think look fine with my dresses. If I wear these flip flops to dinner on my upcoming Celebrity cruise, will they tell me I can't enter the MDR?! It's not like I'd be wearing it with a bathing suit or shorts or other inappropriate attire haha I just don't have any other non-flip flop shoes to wear with a dress for dinner (aside from the heels that I force my feet into on formal/elegant chic night, but would rather not have to wear on the casual nights!) I am attaching a few photos from my last cruise for reference...

  2. i don't see how we are going to have access to that information...

From time to time the question of distribution of gratuities comes up so I did some research on previous threads and found the following:

    Gratuity of 12.50 per day

    Waiters : 3.65

    Asst Waiters 2.10

    Dining Rm Management 1.00

Stateroom 3.50 extra 50 cents for concierge and Aqua

    Other service personnel 1.25

    Total 12.50

We were on the Century in December 2014 and were informed by our MDR waiters that their sole income is determined by the amount of gratuities paid. The more tables they look after the more gratuities get paid. One can take that comment at face value or whatever.

It will be interesting now that rumours are abound that select diners don't have to prepay gratuities how many customers will remove gratuities in toto

  3. I agree to a point....but you have to admit that the Brits have had their own problems with the Irish for hundreds of years....and discriminated against them.

    I do not understand this,

The only folks that seem to be discriminated against these days

are honest hard working European white Americans , or Irish Americans or German Americans, why cannot you all be Just Americans.

I am British, my ancestors came from Ireland and Scotland and maybe, no probably from Saxony, does that make me Irish British, Scottish Brittish or am I Saxon British, got to laugh

I am British, and thank goodness we don't have African British or Jamacan British we are all British.

What would happen if there were African Irish Americans

  4. Sounded more like Oh...there are so many poor minorities out there....and they give it to the white boys

Methinks the OP's intent was a commentary of the 'possible' lack of ethnic/minorities entertaining on the ship and not quite so much of the genre of songs sung.

I understand how it was written, but do not think it was the intent to comment on the music, just singers/performers overall.

I could be wrong, but that is as I read the post.

    bon voyage

  5. that statement is BS, only if they were mocking them...Why can't you look at it as a tribute to a couple of excellent groups?

I agree to a point. Singing their songs is perfectly fine but to resort to imitating the groups such as the dance moves of The Jacksons and The Supremes is borderline racism.
  6. I can't believe you said that......there is nothing wrong with white singers doing Motown...any more than black singers covering songs originally by white singers. What makes you think these performers are not deserving?

I have had enough affirmative action.....If the white group is better THEY should get the work. if the Black group is better they should...The End

I just got off a very nice Western Caribbean cruise on the Silhouette. Most everything was very good to excellent from food to activities to the crew.

However, one show that was called The Soulmates was hard to believe that Celebrity would have booked it! We arrived at the theater expecting something like Diana Ross from the write-up in the daily program. It was 4 young white guys singing Motown!! Not only did they sing the songs but had all the dance steps as well. Imagine an act where white guys are performing The Jackson's "A, B, C, 1, 2, 3" complete with the dance moves.

What was Celebrity thinking? There are so many very talented African American groups looking for work on cruise ships - but they hire The Soulmates?

  7. People are people.....just because one has a bit more disposable income does not mean they just throw it away. unless you are VERY wealthy that is and even they can be thrifty in their own way.

I am not being snarky but I truly do not understand how people with the budget for a Royal or Penthouse Suite could be concerned with how much laundry they can get done for free.
  8. Does anyone know if you can access the menue for luminae, blu and the MDR on the TV in your cabin?

I guess inside knowledge from CC comes to its own! I really don't understand why with such a limited Luminae menu they don't have, like the MDR, a couple of standby items....Don't get me wrong, when we were on Equinox service was outstanding but some days we would look at the menu and really did struggle to spot something we may like....

It really is great now that Sky Suites can also enjoy Michael's Club as long as there are enough tables, chairs and staff! I am less worried about this on M class ships where Michael's is bigger and a more regular shape but on both Equinox and Solstice pre and post dinner Michael's was fairly full just with the 'upper' suites. It would be a non perk for everyone if you returned from dinner for coffee and a drink and could not get a seat!

Hopefully some recent Michael's Club attendees will report that the venue continues to be the relaxing and friendly place we have enjoyed so much on recent cruises.

  9. The Celebrity suite is much larger than the Sky Suite ....That would be a factor to consider

Sky Suites and Celebrity Suites have Luminae, Michael's Club access, priority boarding, tendering, toiletries. Celebrity Suites also have Michael's Club as their venue for disembarkation at the end of the cruise. The jump from a CS to a RS adds all other perks and they are significant.

Just a point re the suite itself...it has two distinct areas. A bed room and a living area and the bathroom is Jack and Jill with entrances from both areas.

This lay out tends to split guests into loving or not loving it! We didn't like the closed in feeling of the bedroom and would not book again, either looking at a SS or a RS unless we were traveling with a third guest when a CS would offer more privacy than a SS. So before booking, I would suggest you look on you tube at CS, SS and RS, way up the perks for each, the room layout of each, pricing and then decide!

Sorry if I have added confusion to your selection!

  10. Stupid policy and not very effective as a second person could make one of the bets......a bit risky too as you could hit 0 or 00 and lose it all

If you went to the roulette table and bet half of the promo chips on red and half on black would they allow the bet? Technically it is still a bet as their is a risk of a zero coming up. I know some British Casinos don't allow it as it's an open door to Money Laundering.
  11. Why would you waste the time to call when dry dock schedules are available online?.......took me 10 seconds to google it.....she was last in April 2015 so won't be back in til somewhere around april 2018

Today 11/13 /15 We placed 3 phone calls to Celebrity to find a answer to a rather simple question . The question is when will millennium be in dry dock

Twice we were disconnected & then after finally reaching a voice mail extension left a message early in the day ;however ,no response .

Seems to me this type of lack of customer service does not help them gain more business:o .Have you had similar experiences?

  12. Seems a wasted effort to me....Food varies ship to ship...even between sailings....not to mention that the tastes of the passengers vary...what one loves another will hate....

I think you are wasting your time. if you order something and it does not please you...send it back and order something else. You might miss out on something wonderful to YOU based on anothers opinion.

  13. Booked on a transpacific Celebrity Suite so no drink package

No discounts ever I have heard about. Have never bough one. Happy with my two bottles of wine on board and an occasional drink on board.

The package is offered as a perk to about 80% of cruiser included in their booking fee.

  14. Get the Penthouse forget the celebrity suite

I'm a Celebrity newbie who needs the assistance of experts who can help me make an informed decision about which Celebrity Suite to book on the Silhouette. The cruise I'm considering is in 2017, so I pretty much have my pick this far out. Deck, on the bump-out, aft of the bump-out, angled balcony...help!!

Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated...thanks.

  15. I have never bought a drink package...have either had them included or not use them....but, I was wondering if they offer discounts on board from the prices listed on the website? I just can't see paying 880.00pp for a classic drink package.

  16. And if the price had gone up you would have been crowing about how smart it was to book early....you know...or should know how the prices fluctuate. you did not lose anything, think of it as Celebrity throwing you 600.00 up the toilet and not gripe that your friends got 900.00

I booked Aqua Class on Celebrity Equinox in late August. Paid £300 deposit. Went today to book a cabin for our two friends - same ship, same date, same type of stateroom - approx £900 cheaper!!!!

Had a really interesting chat with Celebrity Customer Services. Basically I can cancel and lose my deposit and get the new promotional price or I can stay as I am.

So, whatever I do, I may as well have thrown £300 down the toilet!!!!

This is a total rip off. We are "encouraged" to book early and then are discriminated against when we do.

The really interesting thing is that Celebrity not only know this is happening but are openly laughing about it. Customer Services tell me that they have had complaints about this before - but it is still happening.

This type of behaviour is despicable. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE A VALUED CUSTOMER!!!!! They take your money and then treat you like dirt.
