  2. We were there several years ago and it looked like a dump on the outside but once you went through the gate it was wonderful. Must have been a slow day because there weren't many people there. Sounds like business has picked up so I think I'll look at somewhere to avoid the "herds".

  3. Several years ago my mom and I were walking on one of the covered decks in the early morning. We were the only people around other than an older gentleman who was sort of muttering to himself. Something didn't seem right so we kind of hung around and watched him. A few minutes later we saw him start to climb up on the railing. We approached him slowly and asked how he was doing and he replied that he was going swimming. Told him that the water was really cold today and that he needed to get down from the rail. Once he was down I ran inside and found a staff member. Turns out he had dementia and had wandered away from his family who were on the other side of the ship.

  4. Just off Granduer today and had booked Cosol tour in St Lucia for our group of 12. The ship had a docking issue so we were late getting off but met up with Cosol as directed in tour confirmation email. Our driver/guide was Yellow Bird. The van was nice, spacious with comfortable seats and air conditioning. Even though we got a late start we were still able to see and do everything on the tour. Yellow Bird was very good with time managenent and we were back at the port in plenty of time.

Snorkeling at Sugar Beach was good. Swim almost out to the buoys and it drops off. We swam through walls of fish of all colors out there but there is plenty in closer to shore too.

Food tastings - stopped at a cool place where several tables were set up. We walked around the tables and filled our plates. Each food was labeled so we knew what we were eating. We fed our leftovers to the three resident dogs that hang out under the balcony. They gobble up anything you toss down to them. Wish I would have thought to bring some dog biscuits along.

Sulfur spring and mud bath - water is 100 degrees and felt great. Then you get smeared with white mud which dries quickly. Then back into the sulpher spring to wash off everything but your face. That gets washed off at the next stop, the waterfall. There you stand under the cascading water and rinse off the remaining mud. Our skin felt nice and soft after.

We learned a lot about the island, made a stop for still warm, freshly baked bread and another stop for cheese to put in the bread.

Not sure what my favorite part of the tour was, it was all fun and interesting. But everyone in our group agreed that it was well worth the cost.

  5. Just off Grandeur 2 weeks ago. Park Cafe has hot dogs, nachos you can get with chili & cheese, pizza in addition to other things mentioned. On our sailing the cafe was open till 3 am. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate is available 24 hours at stations on the deck just outside the Windjammer.

  6. Got off my 10th time on Grandeur less than 2 weeks ago.

In addition to the other things mentioned there is an aerial show in the centrum, 70s dance party also in the centrum, piano player in the Schooner bar, several late night adult comedy shows and if you like audience participation don't miss the Quest.

Find the roll call for your cruise and get to know your cruisemates. We had a really active group and planned several activities for the sea days.

Grandeur is our favorite ship with the best crew.

  7. Jeff&Mel - we like to sit outside on deck 5, Just walk out there and find a couple of vacant chairs. Pull them over to the railing, put your feet up anf relax.

Park Cafe in the Solarium is good for snacks - pizza, burgers, hotdogs, nachos, sweets, etc. Open till 3 am.

Deck chairs on deck 10 are easier to get than right around the pool.

Omelet station in the Windjammer has the best omelets with your choice of ingredients. Line goes pretty fast. Or you can get eggs made to order, sunny side up or over easy.

  8. Just got off Grandeur yesterday. Ship is decorated beautifully, the crew was wearing Santa hats and everyone (with only a few passengers who would be miserable no matter what) was in the holiday spirit.

We came home with lots to do before Christmas but we didn't think about it while we were cruising.

Outside on Deck 5 is a great place to relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle. Hard to be stressed out sitting in a deck chair with your feet propped on the railing just watching the ocean glide by.

    Enjoy your cruisr.

  9. We also just got off Grandeur yesterday. This was my 10th time sailing Lady G and can't wait till the 11th time. Our dining room service was not perfect all the time hut our waiter and assistsnt waiter worked hard for us. We had no problem getting 2 shrimp cocktails if we asked. The food was good. Tutti salad in the dining room at lunchtime is great. .

First formal night was Day 2 and second formal night was Day 9. Didn't notice a lot of tuxes this year. Picture lines are long but move pretty fast.

One problem with sea pass account charge was taken care of quickly.

Deck 5 is a great place to sit and relax on sea days. Nice and quiet place to read, nap or get away from the hustle & bustle. Starboard side (right facing forward) is the smoking side.

Free self serve ice cream machines outside the Windjammer (deck 9) in the afternoons. If one side is covered up check the machine on the other side.

  10. My mom cruises solo all the time. She booked during a WOW sale last year for a cruise this year. She got the 50% off second person (which meant she paid 1.50% vs 200% solo rate without the BOGO), she only paid 1 set of taxes and fees plus got the $200 per cabin OBC. She booked for 2016 during another BOGO promotion and got the same deal except without the $200 OBC.
