  1. Maybe. But I've always been a little skeptical of these claims, and there is no good theory of the science to back them up. Plus, as you point out, if the ship's water caused that, you'd think that drinks/ice/soups, etc. made with ships water would do the same thing. But those who've posted of this problem tend to say that all is fine, as long as they drink bottled water, and the other things made using the ship's water don't cause problems.

It's worth a shot, I'm just suggesting that it may not be the cure-all that you seem to be expecting.

Do your feet swell? Do you know the pain it causes? I do! Can the ice cause it too? Can the soup cause it? Maybe... All I know is I drink a lot of the ships water and maybe the little bit of ice or soup made from that water May not be enough, But I and others are here reporting it... Just because your not affected doesn't mean others are not...

  2. That's great if that works for you, but there are many of us that have found that the ship's water causes ankle swelling. Bottled spring water makes a huge difference for a lot of people.

I knew it! Something has been wrong over the years and thought it was the scopolamine I was getting in pill form and can still get from a compounding pharmacy.... I have been testing it lately to see if that is the problem.... But no! I'm not crazy..... I haven't figured it out until I read this thread...

It has got to be the ships water... I thought maybe it was the sea and salt air.... Now it makes sense.... Holy crap! It's been the water on the ship all this time.... I need to bring spring water and stay off of ships water....

My daughter experienced the same and we both thought it was the med... Now I know what was making mine and her feet swell like balloons and ready explode.... Trust me when I tell you our ankles and feet looked like if you popped them we would go off like a balloon...

Now the problem is how to avoid the ships water.... Yeah I can bring my own and won't ask but ice cubes and drinks will make me swell then too then....

I'm Not going to stop cruising because of water as I have not stopped cruising because of sea sickness, But the swelling of my ankles and feet are such that I obviously need bottled water24/7 and can get expensive....

I for one am bringing bottled water onboard and not asking.

  3. We've always been deterred from the staff from the MDR on the day of boarding but have always gotten in. Last year, on the Crown, the were holding the employee appreciation luncheon onboard around the holidays and it was the best luncheon ever!! We had a very special menu ... so glad we didn't miss that one even though they always have a look on their face like 'what are you doing here?'.

A few weeks ago on the Grand, we were escorted right in ... first time ever without them acting like it wasn't allowed or it was an imposition. They were also fully staffed, so may have been expecting a larger than normal crowd. In November, we boarded too late to get in on the first day luncheon so not sure if they were actually turning people away or what? That was one of the only times I have missed it. It has become a tradition ... especially if boarding is not delayed.

BTW -- the salmon for lunch on the Grand was very good!

PS -- the event they were referring to might just be the BVE -- although we've been able to eat in the MDR anyway. Sometimes you just have to be a little more insistent ... in a polite way.

    What does BVE stand for?

  4. I've had three different inside cabins on the Emerald. All the same size, none that I'd consider spacious, but adequate. All of our inside cabins on HAL have been larger (they've all had sofas). The main thing we'd now look for when booking an inside on the Emerald is to make sure it is NOT a quad cabin. Learned that one the hard way.

Can anyone please tell me what's the disadvantage of having a quad inside cabin? My daughter and her friend will be in one but beds will be separated....

  5. I don't need a power strip, But I do need my extension cord for my small fan I plan on bringing as both are for my medical condition of my feet.... If they confiscate either they better supply a fan or I'm screwed..... Haven't had either taken on Princess last year nor RCCL the year before, But if .....

  6. That may be true of the MDR - but now that I think back, I'm sure this was in the Romeo & Juliet Room which is the lower level of the MDR, the 2nd level (MacBeth) is for MTDiners and 3rd level (King Lear) is for people who have set dining times. Romeo and Juliet is also open for breakfast during the cruise.

Would you happen to know what time Romeo & Juliet dining room was open for lunch on boarding day? or even the time you went?

  7. So my husband and I are doing a 3 day cruise out of Port Canaveral. I've cruise multiple times, but he has never cruised (newly married). I have never done the drink package before as my drinking is really swayed by who I'm with and I can go either way - drink a little or drink a lot. I don't really care either way.

I originally thought we would do the drink package because we drank a fair amount on our honeymoon in Sandals and I enjoyed the freedom on ordering whatever. However, I realized we have zero sea days. We have embarkation day 1, Nassau day 2, and Coco Cay day 3 and then back to port. Now I'm really torn as we will be in Nassau most the day and I spend ALL day on the island, where drinks aren't included in the package (right).

So that basically means we would have to drink all our drinks at night. I'm a frozen cocktail lover with an occasional Baileys to put in my coffee. His main drink is Captain and Coke or beer. Can anyone give me their thoughts / opinions on doing /not doing the drink package when you have no sea days.

    Thanks all!

We have done the same itinerary about 3 times in the past and we used to call them a Booze cruise.... It depends on how many Captain and Cokes or beers your husband can drink or if your going to drink more then 1 or 2 frozen drinks per day.... If you will drink let's say 4 frozen drinks and a soda or 2 or more and really want the bottled water ( BTW.... The ships water is probably the purest and better then your home) then get the Premium package.... Even drinks after port days can add up fast in the evenings if you drink too many.... I'd say if both of you enjoy drinking together and have fun while each has at least 5 drinks / soda/Bottle water per evening or day you will be ahead....

  8. Everybody has different taste and likes, that's why they make a so many different beers and alcohol. Belittling someone else's taste is uncalled for. Like what you like but don't assume that anybody that likes something different is wrong.

By definition, swill is liquid refuse fed mainly to swine, that's pigs for those who don't know. I don't see the value in the premium drinks so I drink what probably 90% of the people do, the middle of the road drinks. I find it offensive. :roll eyes twice.

What are you ranting and going on about, I didn't belittle you or anyone! I gave my opinion about certain grades of alcohol if you don't like my opinion I could care less....

Jeez! you all have to always take what you don't like about someone post and turn all around.... Get real!

  9. Nobody questioned your right to drink whatever you like. It's not right to ridicule people who don't share your feelings. People are individuals and different. They have the same rights to like what they do, just like you. Accept it and move on, or be bitter, that's your choice.

What are you ranting and going on about, I didn't Ridicule anyone! I gave my opinion about certain grades of alcohol if you don't like my opinion I could care less....

Jeez! you all on these boards lately have to always take what you don't like about someone post and turn all around.... Get real!

  10. Jeez, why so adamant on things you know nothing about. Corona, Amstel, Heineken, and Newcastle are all $5.50 before tax on Royal. Princess has nothing to do with this

I'm on my phone and can't see where your from, But I'll just assume US and still say no import beer like Newcastle, Corona, Heineken or such us available on any cruise for $5.50 Hell! On land here in Florida at the cheapest bar or restaurant it's not that cheap..... Not sure what world you live in, But not here....

  11. Listen I could care less what you all drink.... I know JIMHO, If I drink low quality alcohol it gives me headaches and a hangover.... I'm not trying to knock anyone... I'm just voicing my opinion that works for me.... Drink on or DON'T.....

Drink the low quality alcohol at your own risk... Just don't come back on this board and complain what low quality drinks they have and how little alcohol was in them and not worth the price....

Way too many threads on that!

  12. Don't declare that it isn't different from ship to ship when you don't know it for a fact. I found different pricing in different bars on the same ship. All you, or I, know for a fact is that people are finding a lot of variability.

Oh! I agree, Pricing can be different from bar to bar on the same ship.... Especially for Premium Alcohol..... No argument their as I've experienced it which is why I'm buying the drink package for the very first time.... Can't stand the different pricing and won't worry now [emoji3]

  13. "Well Swill"? How classy is that? Here's a novel idea, instead of ridiculing somebody else's choice, list what you like and why. Once you add a mix, and had more than one, you might as well buy the "well swill" and save the money. In my opinion, there is no difference.

Yeah! Try Smirnoff on the rocks then try GG.... Even mixed I can tell the difference especially in the morning..... I'm not 25 anymore and earned my right to drink the best, Especially when talking beer like Stella, Which BTW I don't care what anyone says is no $6.50 beer on any ship any cruise line..... I was on Princess last year and know before Tax they were like $7.95....
