  1. I have read various details regarding the extent of the cigarette smoke on the Conquest. We have balcony cabins booked on the Lido deck and above and am looking for honest information about the smoke in the common areas and in the rooms.

Having just returned from last week on the Conquest it was the smokiest of my five cruises on her. It seems to be worse forward. If they would eliminate smoking in the lobby that would solve a lot of the problems.

Never had a problem with a smoky room.

My review is probably on page 3 or 4 by now, if you want to read it. Very detailed & probably more food oriented.

  2. Hey everyone! We are starting to get really excited about our first cruise. I do have a question, though.

We put down that we wanted the early dining because all of us normally eat around five-ish but now we started wondering if that was a very smart thing to do. We are in mountain time and are afraid that we are going to be eating at three-ish which doesn't sound very dinner-ish to me.:D Do you choose your dining time based on the regular time that you eat at home or for some other reason. At 5:45 on the ship wouldn't it be like eating at 3:45 for us or am I thinking backwards? :p

Your thinking backwards. It would be later not earlier.

Also, along these same lines.. how does eating in the dining room work for breakfast and lunch. Do you have specific hours that you can eat in the dining room?

The times will be listed in your Compass (newletter)

Also... Once you have a specific dinner time, do you go at that time to the same table every night and eat with the same people each time?

    Yes

I absolutely am so excited I can hardly stand it. Reading these boards is sure helping to pass the time. Thanks so much.

    Enjoy

  3. I am just curious, Is anyone bring there kids with them on the Conquest Feb 10-17, 2008 ? I know with it being Valentines week there will be alot of couples. My girls (11 & 13) and I will be going, this will be their first cruise I am so excited for them. Guess I am just hoping they will run into kids their age.

    Thanks alot,

    Kay

    Probably so Kay

Check the roll call threads for the Conquest and that date.

BTW-Welcome to cruise critic, it's a wealth of information (of all sorts).:)

  4. I wouldn't be the one who did the jinxing. I was working today and one of my patients works for the weather center, she told me that we have a 83% chance of getting a MAJOR hurricane in the gulf, hitting us, this season. Talk about upset. This is our very first cruise and we are all looking forward to. Let's hope the hurricanes go elsewhere. :)

They (weather center) said the same thing last year.......and nada.

Guess what? They will say the same thing next year as well.

  5. The ventriloquist is Marc Rubben. His website is dummytalk.com He has the Rastamon, Cletus the red neck, Max the old man and the Swami. Along with a mask that he uses to turn an audience member into a "dummy". Is this who you are asking about? For the next few weeks, Marc is also performing on the Valor. (every other week that is) He may change ships soon, not sure at this point. He'll be off for the month of July to spend time with his family. Let me know if you have any other questions about Marc. I should be able to answer them, after all, I am his wife. :)

I'm glad you answered her, I've seen her ask a few times now, but I'm kind of busy this time of year and can't spend as much time on line. I did want to say that I've seen Marc several times and you can tell from my Conquest reviews that I think Marc is has one of the the best acts I have ever seen on a cruise ship. :)

  6. I don't understand why you all seem to want to shoot the messenger and not respect everyone's opinion. All these posts about how you all are just going to ignore anything negative anyone says is not respecting others posts....why be so defensive? It reminds me of kids putting their fingers in their ears and saying they wouldnt listen.

Sometimes there are a few negative things. That doesnt mean the poster did not have a great time...give them a break already. If they did not like to cruise they wouldnt be cruising....they just want to tell you their experience.

Well, when someone puts out BAD information as you just did in your previous email it makes one wonder.

The causeway is NOT closed every Sunday morning.

  7. My husband and I will be cruising on the Conquest May 20. Can anyone tell me what juices are available? Thanks.

If you mean for breakfast: At the buffet they have orange and guava in the dispensers. In the dining room they have just about anything you want. The tomato is good, usually served with lemon.

If you mean at the bar, just about everything.

If your looking for a mixer during the day, the fruit punch is good.

  8. Hello all..thanks for all the great information. We're sailing on the Conquest June 24th. Wanted to know if alcholic drinks are free while gambling in the casino. Also, any recommendations on who to book the snorkeling/stingray excursion with in Cayman? Private or Carnival.

    Thanks!

No in the casino. Yes at 'past guest' and 'Captains reception' .

I recommend Nativeway for tours in Grand Cayman. Used them many times and always excellent service.

  9. I have a question I am on the veranda deck aft balcony cabin I was wondering how much can the people on the lido deck see on to my balcony, while looking out at the aft windows?

The aft balconies are double the depth of the standard balconies. If you are standing at the railing you will be in full view of everyone both on the Lido or Panorama decks as well as those in other aft balconies. The half of the balcony nearest the cabin is completely private.

yst is right. Although rarely, anyone looking from Lido. Usually there are people setting at those tables on Lido and it makes it hard for people to stand between the tables and the back glass. I just wave if I see someone. The glass also acts as a barrier as well, not like they are right on top of you. I didn't think Panorama comes into play on aft, but I'll check next trip.

  10. Can only speak on my limited experience; Conquest formal night, 8 weeks ago, enforced dress code: ball gowns, tuxes, etc, were the norm, and people not following dress code were not allowed in the dining room.

I have found this to NOT be the norm on the Conquest. I believe in dressing properly for dinner (and lunch and breakfast for that matter), but on formal night the majority of men wore dark suits. A few in tuxes, but less than 15%. I find they rarely enforce the dress code although I think they should.

can anyone tell me the theme of the ship, just received a CD from Carnival, and within the CD it describes all the themes for all the ships. I am wondering this because some of them looked good? Thanks for your answers!

As Suzy says, French Impressionism. All the public rooms are named for artists. The art and decorations and the decor, especially in the dining rooms is beautiful. The atrium lobby has a mural of most French Impressionist artists and their work. The lighting and glass work in the public rooms is all French Impressionist and depict scenes from the artwork. I love the Sunflower in the aft atrium and the lamps in the dining room especially. The walls of the corridors and passageways are also decorated. Even an artists tile in your toilet. A very beautiful ship.

  11. I get the impression from reading these postings that formal night may be somewhat less casual on Carnival than other lines. Will my DH feel out of place in his tuxedo on Conquest formal nights, or should he just plan to take a dark suit?

I believe you have the correct impression.

I assume you mean that you believe formal night is MORE casual on Carnival? I've only sailed Carnival and Princess and found there was no difference between the two. If your DH owns a tuxedo by all means wear it.

Since the Conquest sails from Texas I have heard that they allow a certain jean attire in the dining rooms on regular nights to accomodate the locals. But, past Conquest guests will have to address that issue.

I find a HUGE difference between Princess and Carnival especially in the dining room. Of course I have only sailed CCL from Galveston so that may make the difference. Feel free to read my reviews. (click my name)

  12. even though you don't know me!

I was in 7375 on a sister ship and was very unhappy when I was woken up every night by the cleaning crew who came to get their vacuums out of the storage room.... right across the hall from us! It continued all week and the purser tried to stop it but with no luck. There is also a storage room for the room stewards along there and it is very noisy in the mornings when they are getting set up for the day.

    Hope that answers your question.

Yes, so true. Many times the stewards will make more noise than if you were across from pax cabins. Especially early in the morning.

  13. I'm a 'foodie'. One of the reasons I cruise. (I live in a very rural area and would have to travel to eat in a good resturant, so might as well get seven good days of it.) I also will check places to eat in ports of call. It's as important as the sites for me.

My fav FoodNet chef is Paula Deen. DW likes Barefoot Contessa. Although I'm the cook in the family. (everyday not just on occasion)
