  1. The other groups and performers have their own spaces. Solo piano in ocean bar. Dueling pianos on billboard onboard. Strings in Lincoln center stage.

I know. But some of their venues do not allow people to dance for the music they play. If HAL can shuffle the program and every other group and performers get their chance to play in the Queen's Lounge at different times, this will be the perfect arrangement. My two cents.

  2. More great photos Brad - many thanks!

On one of the Ocean Bar photos it looks like there is a piece of a wooden dance floor showing. Do you know if there is any sort of dance space in the Ocean Bar? I know they will just have a pianist, but if there is a floor we'll use it if the pianist has any tunes we can dance to (hopefully he or she will know some tangos and waltzes as we likely won't get any of those when the BB Kings play)!

I hope that BB KIng will at least sing some slow Waltz songs. My ears hurt when listening to too many "move your body" songs. Queen's lounge has such a nice dance floor and it is a waste if they don't play some nice music for some ballroom dancing.

  3. I got a question. To order coffee or specialty coffee or drink at The Dutch Cafe, the menu photos show the price range. But for the dessert, soup, and sandwiches there, is there a surcharge or they are also complimentary? It looks like Princess' international Cafe.we only need to pay for the coffee and speciality coffee. Am I right? Thanks.

Oh, the same question was answered already. I didn't see the answer above when I typed my question. Thanks.

  5. I like ship with modern furniture. Great! Just wonder if any ballroom type music played in the Queen's Lounge? Can't wait to dance on such beautiful hardwood floor. We will experiment this ship's dancing music and band and will tell the whole dance group if they should try this ship or stick with Cunard's Queen Mary 2.

  6. I hope you are right but I'm fearful that with just a piano in the Ocean Bar the opportunities to dance may be rare. It is SO sad to have a ship with a wonderful dance floor with the space given over to music that isn't always good to dance to and, even when it is (and the BB Kings do some that works for ballroom....just not a lot), then it is too loud to be able to enjoy dancing. We are taking ear plugs with us this time in case the BB Kings is the only opportunity for dancing.

When we are back from the Christening Cruise I'll post to let other dancers know more about what opportunities we had for dancing on the Koningsdam.

I look forward to reading more from you.

It will be a pity that HAL built such a beautiful dance floor without the proper band to go with it. I will see how it goes after my booked cruise in late May. If they waste the dance floor, I will definitely won't go back. Hopefully something will change.

  7. When we were on the Nieuw Amsterdam, we can only do disco type (move your body type) dancing. Sometimes one or two cha cha or rumba. No waltz or Foxtrot. When we switched to the Ocean Bar, The Band played the music more suitable for ballroom. We met an American lady who is a dance instructor. We also met an 82-yea-old Angela who used to teach ballroom on the cruise ship with her husband. We also met two other American couples. We knew each other because of the dance activities. We drew many fellow passengers to the Ocean bar to see us dancing too. We had so much fun and hope that we can continue this fun on Koningsdam.

  8. The Band at the Ocean Bar is amazing. We danced every night when The Band played in the Ocean Bar. We also met 3 other couples on the dance floor. We had so much fun. I also danced YMCA with an 82-year-old lady from England. So much fun!

I just hope that The Band will play on Koningsdam's Queen's Lounge.

  9. So happy to know that the Queen's lounge has strings during the high tea. We booked this ship because of the Queen's lounge and quite sad to find out that they have BB king playing there every night. Hope that they can put some ballroom music band in the queen's lounge when there are ballroom type passengers onboard. They can change program based on passenger type. Every week will be different.

  10. The only complaint we had is the ventilation duct inside the room. Air conditioning blows out from the top which is very close to the bed. It is very easy to get cold. I read a review which complained the same thing. Now I understand why he complained and he did get a cold from the cruise.

  11. We love ballroom dancing and would like to dance on the dance floor of the Queen's Lounge. But, just find out that BB King's Blues Club will perform in the Queen's Lounge. Bad news for our us since the band doesn't play the ballroom music. They play most of the disco music, hustle or just move your body music. I thought Holland America tries to grab some ballroom dancing customers from Cunard to Koningsdam. Sigh! I will see how they do and will let all my ballroom dancing friend group know of my comments once I have tried this new ship.
