  1. Have you conversed with the rollcall to see if something is going on?

I looked and saw a number of staterooms available so it could be just supply and demand working.

There's something goofy going on with the roll call. Best I can find there isn't one for this itinerary. I think the Infinity was suppose to do a Panama Canal cruise on 9/12 and then it got switched to 10/7 or some such jazz. Take a look at the roll call for Infinity 9/12.....its a canal cruise.

  2. Looking to do a this 7 day cruise at the last minute due to the value pricing of the fares. X's fare is a Balcony at $749 and they give the option to hold that price and reject the $150 upcharge that comes with the one perk. On line TA priced at $681 and $25 OBC. Heck, AQ is only $849. This is the roundtrip Vancouver to San Fran cruise.

What am I missing? Why so cheap? Is there something like a Bag Pipers Convention booked that will take up 80% of the rooms?

Good CCer's...let me know what you know, think, or guess.

  3. Thinking of a Dec cruise , Eastern Carribean on Silhouette. We like the Summit and Constellation Aqua cabins. Any cabins on Silhouette better than others ,any to avoid? Thanks

Thanks to some great advice from this board we booked 1542 for our October 2017 Western Med cruise on the Silly. Under the hair salon and no overhang which would block out the sun. We want sun, not shade. Rooms further aft have the over hang from the deck above...if you want shade. Also, easy access to the Aqua Spa Café with the nearby stairs. Love going up there for coffee and a muffin to watch the sun come up and the world go by whilst my DW gets a few more winks

1542 has the sofa near the balcony, 1540 has the sofa on the bathroom side of the bed..

  4. Hi Andy,

we have spoken quite a bit in the last 4 days. our booking conformation's all show a deposit being paid (although it was a reduced deposit because we booked onboard) so i am not sure that could be the case...dont know what else it could be as my TA is emphatic that they have not touched to reservation to cause such an issue.

thanks for your help & have a good evening

    Tom,

Just read the thread. Will try to be brief and specific with relevant facts. Hope it helps.

December 2015, booked through X call center, a September 2017 AMS to BCN repositioning cruise. Got a call (not a letter as your case) from X in May 2016 saying the cruise had been chartered. Call was from their "Displaced Traveler Desk" ..I think they called it. Rep seemed to be up to speed on how my situation would be handled per X policy...wasn't her first rodeo type.

Gave me the option to rebook with same perks onto one of two cruises they thought to be comparable to the AMS-BCN cruise. They weren't so we passed. She said would honor our AMS-BCN fare...no deal there since the rack rate on the two offered were less than our AMS-BCN fare. She said X would then charge rack rates..not the price I committed to for the AMS-BCN cruise...I would hope so!!!.

She then said we could book any other cruise and pay the rack rate, keep our perks, and they would add another $200 per cabin to whatever OBC we already had promised to us. We took that option.

X then emailed me the confirmation documentation..that lists out they deal, as discussed.

What strikes me odd about your situation is the early written communication they sent to you. I would have thought, based on my situation, they would have called your from the "Displaced Traveler Desk"..not send you a letter.

More FYI....when I was working with the "Displaced Traveler Desk" I posted on the Roll Call page for the AMS-BCN cruise to see others experience and/or deals offered. All (five or so) had the same experience as me.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    OHP

ps....(sigh)...missed on the brief response attempt!...oops

  5. Been playing around today with my scanner, adobe acrobat, and getting some cruise paper work organized.

Though some cruisers out there booked on one of the upcoming Canada/NE cruises might have an interest in the Dailies from our cruise last September.

Enjoy. Sorry for some of the blurring. Too lazy to go back and do a better job scanning on this first attempt. Let me know if you have a need for me to look at the originals here and I'll answer any questions created by the occasional blurred text.

(hoping the link below works) :)

  6. I think we had just decided to push the boat out (no pun intended!) and husband pack a tux but now think he will be better off in something less formal. I on the other hand will still wear my beautiful new sparkly dress!!

My wife enjoys wearing her sparkly dresses also and I enjoy watching her enjoyment so I look forward to wearing my tux. We were a little concerned before our first cruise after X went to "evening chic" or whatever it is called. It was a Caribbean cruise so the casual nature concerned us more. Long story short..I wore my tux and there were plenty of others in tuxes. I like to wear a blazer for dinner on non-formal nights so I had that as a back up. No need for that on either "evening chic" nights and we felt really no different than back in the day during "formal night" No experience here with Alaska cruises but I wouldn't think them to be any more casual than Caribbean cruises.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Our CC Embarkation lunch had several choices. We selected the lamb chops, which were wonderful!

(not sure why my photo posted upside down!0

my experience is that if you copy and resize your original picture to something smaller (I use 450x600 pixels) the pictures upload with the correct orientation.

  8. Can anyone tell me if you can order flowers to be delivered to a stateroom for a special occasion. If not are you allowed to buy them whilst in port and bring them onto the ship.

    Many thanks

Attached are a couple of pictures of what the kids ordered from central reservations and was delivered by Celebrity to our room. Not sure of pricing. From our March 2016 Caribbean Cruise on the Silly. Flowers lasted the entire cruise. Strawberries..not so much! :)

  9. I think I know how to approach this but thought I would throw it out to the board to see if there are points I'm missing.....

I/m booked on a Silly Oct 2017 Western Med cruise. Will be the first Aqua Class cruise for us. Booked A2 but was "upgraded" to A1 since Captain Club member. We were placed in 1575 (deck 11 of course) which is the middle of mid-ship.

We cruise veranda for the opportunity for sun..not the type to seek out the shade to keep from burning. We place no value in the need to be protected from rain while on the veranda. We have no issues with motion and have cruised fore and aft with no problems.

From pictures, it looks to me like that overhead overhang from deck 12 will cover almost all of our veranda on deck 11 mid-ship?

We understand the time of year, daily weather, direction of the cruise all come into play.

I'm thinking I should "downgrade" back into a A2 more foreward and request a room in the 1501 to 1550 range..since it looks like those have the more common overhangs like we are use to with veranda cruising? Other "advantages" of A1 versus A2?

So, kind cruisers....anything I'm missing, other considerations, thoughts?

    TIA

    Cheers,

    OHP

  10. We've always used Select. Mainly for the flexibility it allows and a little over our fear of others at an 8-top wanting to talk politics and then us having to go through the exercise of moving.

We've cruised as a party of two and a party of six. I don't recall ever having to wait long...maybe 10 minutes...to be sat. Our experience is there are minimal to no private 2-tops..mainly banks of 2-tops side by side by side with an 18 inch or so space between the tables. Makes for cross table conversation with others if you want or still can be semiprivate with your conversation if that is your preference.

Hostess will seat you at a 4 or 6 top with others...only first asking you if that is ok. Good to do that if you are in the mood...an hope the politics don't come up :-).

    Cheers,

    OHP

  11. Peter,

We have cruised 9 times on Celebrity and only had one cruise where smoking on the balcony was a problem for us. That was our January 2014 Infinity, Around the Horn cruise. We had Europeans in 2 or 3 cabins adjacent to ours upwind from us that kept smoking even after we complained. The first five days of the cruise, the smoking continued, even when we complained and the Housing Manager's office investigated. I personally saw smokers in the act twice, and other times could see the smoke coming from a specific balcony. The Housing Manager was not aggressive enough in my opinion. However, the smoking finally ended. We were told that the culprits were issued a written waring of a possible $2000 fine. That worked for some days, but about two days prior to the end of the cruise, the smoking started back. Again, I complained and the Housing Manager even came by our cabin to discuss the matter. He indicated that he needed more proof to do annoying more. I think he whipped out due to the fact that the cruise was near the end.

Ii was tempted to opine that next time it happens, I will take a photo of the smoker, but was concerned that I might be charged with some kind of invasion of privacy.

My advice is once you see a violation of the policy, complain immediately to the housing manager as well as room steward. Keep complaining if it doesn't stop. Write down the exact time and where the cabin is located. If they are leaning next to the balcony rail, smoking, take a photo if possible.

Cool..I think I might be on to a new use for my selfie stick...JK :)

  12. While it is not free I would suggest you (and others driving-by this post) try it on embarkment day. We have done it several times an absolutely love how it starts the cruise off for us. Plenty of tables, plenty of servers and plenty of relaxation. Sure it is a $10 pp upcharge....but with the crazy OBC's we've been getting..it's well worth the extra charge to avoid Oceanview.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  13. I would add the Antarctica portion to the trip. Having done a real Antarctica trip with 10 landing, I basically do not feel that Antarctica drive by cruises are worth it. However, since I do not see you doing an Antarctica cruise w landing, I guess that a drive by is marginally better than nothing and would greatly extend your cruising experience.

    DON

    Don,

Thanks for the contribution to the thread. Good point on Antarctica. I haven't drilled down into the itentiaries yet and as you added X does "scenic cruise" at the Antarctica "ports" they list....something to think about for those wanting to actually visit the continent.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  14. DH and I have booked a balcony guarantee on an upcoming sailing on the Equinox. Since we upgraded from a deck 3 OV to the guarantee for virtually no extra cost and gained oodles of perks, we will truly be satisfied with whatever we get, but are curious, what are the worst balconies?

The TA sent us a doom and gloom disclaimer about booking a guarantee warning about the possibility of fully obstructed or an enclosed steel cage. Since we fully expect the worst in the category it would be great to know what is possible.

Our experience with "obstructed view" on S-class Celebrity has been fine. Our obstruction was either being on the 6-deck and the life boats are on the 5-deck. When we look down into where the ocean should be we see the top of the lifeboats...no big deal for us. Or we are higher up and the "obstruction" is the "bulge" up ahead or further back...which obstructs the forward or aft views onto the ocean or horizon...again no big deal to us. Others will type about the "bulge" and can do a better job explaining than me :-).

    cheers,

    Tom

  15. Those repositioning cruises really make b2b cruising take another dimension!

I love the way you have slotted your tours into segments! Only concern may be if nearer the time any of your cruises are chartered, I seem to remember the Japanese one has disappeared a couple of times but even then I am sure you could work in a contingency plan.

We flew to Hawaii for my retirement cruise, spent some time there and then cruised Solstice to Australia via Bora Bora, Tahiti and New Zealand. We thought we had planned well then...

We met a couple in Michael's Club who had

    Land toured Canada

Last Alaskan cruise of the season

Vancouver (or Seattle, unsure which) to Hawaii cruise on Solstice

    Hawaii cruise

    Trans Pacific (our cruise)

Australia land tour (whilst Solstice did a couple of cruises)

    Solstice (New Zealand) cruise

    Fly home

I do have to say I loved the way they had managed to fit in land tours with cruising...

We are presently Bucket listing a mixture of places we have never seen and places we would love to return to....We have no regrets on the time and money spent on our trips and tours...

I think most of us here on CC regret the things we haven't done rather than the things we have!

Sincere best wishes on your retirement, tell your wife to hurry up and start hers, life is too short to wait!

thanks for your reply.... didn't think yet about the chartering trip-wire. We just experienced our first situation as victims to a charter. Booked when I first was published, the AMS to BNC repositioning cruised. even had our D-Day excursion books only to have the trip chartered earlier this month. Already have another western med replacement books...but still not the same experience as our first choice. oh well..life goes on.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  16. Thanks for your excellent video. I'm on the Summit on the October 2, 2016 Canada New England cruise.

Some questions...What program did you use to create your video & what was the music that you used?

Any suggestions for anyone new to Celebrity & the Summit?

    Again an excellent video.

    Tom

Thanks for your kind comments. For the youtube videos I create a "slideshow" using MS PowerPoint then I make that slideshow into a "video". Hardest part is adding the music so it is timed up with the pace of the slideshow. I am far from a techie so I use Google and search out how to do the steps from others much better at this stuff than me. If you have time just be prepared to make several failure slideshows as you work to create the final one.

Music information can be found in the Comments Section (or maybe it is called Description) on down below the presentation on the Youtube page of the video.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  17. yep, no there is the downside of three RT flights with my scheme. Price really wasn't too bad..see lines 22, 23, and 24 on the spreadsheet. But, there still is the length of flights challenge as you pointed out.

I can handle the flights in exchange for the lower price compared to the complete world cruise guys. Plus I like the idea to space it out over two years.

    thanks for the input.

  18. What a trip that would be!

I noticed that you did not include the gratuities of $13.50pp per day or the port fees. Not sure if there are visa or passport fees required on this itinerary but that could be a hidden expense.

Hope you go and enjoy this incredible trip.

    thanks

  19. I priced it at current Celebrity Veranda rates....so I could compare apples-to-apples with Viking (They are all veranda). Would be some savings if we went with ocean view on some legs where the weather is not quite veranda weather.

I looked briefly at Australia and NZ. Kinda hit a deade nd on setting up b2b repositioning type cruises. I think also I had to go east around the globe to make it sort of work. I'm going to try it later and will post what I figure out.

    cheers!

  20. Seems like I got way too much time on my hands. :) I retired two years ago and the DW retires in two years. The promo material I get from Viking on their world cruise got me thinking about a big trip once the DW retires. Viking's is 141 days and starts at $50,000 per person. Seeing that I wondered what I could do with Celebrity and how long it would take to do it in four or five segments.

Check out my attachment and let me know your thoughts. Any suggestions. Other options/routes I didn't consider? I routed it going west to get the extra hour in the day when moving from time zone to time zone. How about going east? Benefits there I'm not seeing.

I like my mash-up rather than a traditional since it spreads the event out which helps to avoid cruise burnout and spaces out the cost. My total cost is slightly over $26,000 per person including airfare. Only 7 days shorter than Viking and mine is truly around the world. Their's is Miami to London. I used current published rates and cruise dates...knowing that will change.

Hope I can get the spreadsheet to attach.

    All for now,

    Cheers
