  1. Just did a quick check for our QV July voyage and we purchased "early bird" fares late last year for $3350pp (AUD) in a balcony cabin (can't remember the grade off the top of my head); these cabins are now $1800pp and Q3 penthouses are at $3200pp. Foiled again.

  2. We also had an 8-day crossing on QM2 from NY in November, 2013 and as it was our first, didn't realise at the time that this was not the norm. Thoroughly enjoyable either way.

  3. Just feeling a wee bit defensive as an Australian who loves to dress up. I often see Australians dressed quite formally on my Seabourn cruises. The ones who I saw dressed too casually IMO on my last cruise were from the northern hemisphere.

Haven't yet sailed on Cunard but looking forward to doing so and bringing my long dresses and my husband's Tux with us. :)

Hear hear, Julie. We always dress up to the max and will certainly again be doing so on QV in July. On our last voyage there were only 22-25 Australians aboard but all made a supreme effort.

  4. Regarding your question about getting into and from NYC, I've never had a problem but others are manic about the cabs breaking down or not knowing where the Red Hook terminal is. In my experience it is wise to take a map of Red Hook with you in case the cab driver doesn't know the way and leave in plenty of time to get back.

Yes, on our QM2 TA in November 2013 our taxi driver from Manhattan had never heard of the terminal. Fortunately, once he obtained directions from his phone, he had no problem navigating us there (although after clearing the main entrance we had to instruct him to head for the "big ship dead ahead!" as he was rather confused). So Lochayman, you will be fine in a taxi once they know where they are going.

Alternatively you could try the water taxi, from memory it stops quite near the terminal and there are two stops almost directly opposite in Manhattan near the WTC - the one on the western side facing Liberty Island is certainly closest (perhaps a 10 min walk).

  5. We've got two of these 175 balls on our two-week QV voyage in July. No doubt it is taboo to wear the same thing twice, even as a male! Will have to get searching for some items to add some variety.

  6. Long-time lurkers, first-time posters! milleruszk, we are also embarking on a voyage on QV at Rome in July. This will be our first experience here. The Cunard option sounds good if you can get over to the Savoy, otherwise there are several tour/activity sites (e.g. citydiscovery.com) that offer cost-effective private transfers. Alternatively you can speak to staff at your own hotel in Rome who no doubt could easily arrange transport at a great price. We are staying at the Sheraton and the concierge has been extremely helpful with this.
