... I am wondering, after so wanting this for so long, if when it happens, it'll actually feel anti-climactic. That it won't be as thrilling an experience [the first time] For those of you who are Platinum, was the "first time" as a Platinum as wonderful as you had imagined it would be?

We turned Platinum last month and it was a little anti-climatic...for me. Yes, I was hyped; had booked first time on the Horizon, celebrating 30 yr anniversary and turning Platinum on the cruise. The one perk I was looking most forward to (priority boarding) came to a screeching halt when we entered got to the Port of Miami, to find there was delayed boarding (TSA issue), and there were at least 150 Plats/Diamonds in line, outside in the heat no less! By the time they started, the non-priority cruisers were being boarded at the same time of priority passengers. It was absolutely awful...but not Carnival's fault. Next, I was so hoping for a nice first Platinum gift. The lanyards were nice 😄, but I can't lie, I really was hoping for something else. I loved my first pin and the strawberries. The cocktail party was nice and we had a good time; but honestly they had more and better hors d'ouvres at the Premier casino party. That was my experience. Am I complaining? Heck no!! Little glitches don't spoil your experience; how you react to them does! It's a blessing to be in a position to even take a cruise. Hubby and I had a wonderful time. Met some really nice folks while waiting in the 90 degree heat (lol), had a ball at the cocktail party and wore my lanyard every day.

You'll have a wonderful time as we did; you'll be on a cruise!!! 😄

  2. For Matilda, the selected guest rolls one die for their # of selection and then get to pick that number of spots from the cow (it's a cow shaped board). I think there a a few 'bust' spots and that would end your picks if you get one. For cash pong, I can't remember what determined how many chances I got (may a die toss), but then you stand behind the line and bounce the ping pong balls into the bags on the floor; the bags contain $ amounts to win. Fill Your Bag - they selected 4 players, gave them each a bag and started everyone off with a gift. I can't remember how they advanced to the next round, but someone would get kicked out, those remaining would get another gift added to their bag, and then they'd start again to rule out the next person.

  3. When we leave from our local port (Baltimore), I don't mind getting there around 2pm'ish. In the past, if we had to fly in the day of the cruise, I'd plan for us to arrive no later than noon, to give a little time for the unexpected. However, 2 years ago the flight was delayed (we didn't get to the ship until 2:30pm), then last year the flights were cancelled at the last minute due to the storms (found out @ 12:45pm Friday, hit the road @ 9:45pm and pulled into the Miami port @ 11:145am Saturday), and my heart can't take it anymore. We're flying in the night before and as long as we're at the Miami port by 1-1:30 I'll be good.

Hope you guys have a great cruise!

  4. We had a great time on the Magic. Our prior 3 cruises had been on Conquest class ships, so the Magic was a little larger. We (in our 50's) had the kids (late 20's/early 30's) and grands (5 and 7) with us, and everyone found things to their liking. Rev Dr E was the cruise director...and a hoot! Yes, the casino had $1 chips, but no match play or coupons; I think they stopped the match play a while back. Mahogany Bay was nice. There were some shops and stands before you get to the taxi/bus area. We decided to hire a car for the day, so I can't comment on the beach and activities right there are the port. The tour was great. We saw were some of the locals live, some of the 'rough areas', learned a lot of local history, the driver took us to his friends for lunch, then we went to the beach.

  5. I reviewed the prior posts, but found mostly recommendations for a shared shuttle/ride. I don't want to drive around or pick up other passengers until a shared van is full. Any recommendations for a private car service from FLL to POM? Ballpark on their rate would be appreciated as well. thanks!!

  6. It's big, but not too big ;). Some have said the aft extendeds can get a little warm because they don't have much shade. With the wrap, you can move to the covered side portion of the balcony if the rear area gets too hot. We booked at 3rd wrap on the Glory this May. A regular balcony is fine, but if that wrap is available at booking...it's mine!! :)

    Happy cruising to you!!!

  7. Hey there! Hope you guys have a wonderful cruise.

-Yes, the balcony partition can be opened between 7221 and 7225.

-Never cruised on Christmas, but almost certain they will have excursions on Christmas day. Check the Ports of Call forum, and you should be able to locate some recommendations for outside excursions and a driver for the day.

-We traveled in August and visited the Serenity area at least 3 times; people there but never crowded.

-DH should be ok on the non-formal nights.

-Didn't get the internet package, so unable to advise.

-I'm not a big crowds person either, but didn't feel overwhelmed by the number of people at all. It may be a little more crowded during a holiday cruise, and I'm sure others will provide their feedback. Of course there will be lines, but it was not bad. There are plenty of areas to move around.

-You can still purchase full bottles for your room through the Fun Shops; we always pre-order a bottle to be delivered on embarkation day. You can also take a drink back to your room...or to dinner if you'd like.

    Have a wonderful time!!

  8. You're backwards. It used to be that way but it is now a morning pickup.

    happy cruising to ya!!

  9. Good choice! I think you/we will be just fine...I booked the same cabin for DH's birthday next May. :)

We done 2 aft wraps before, but both on deck 7. I was a little leery since part of the Lido deck is above the cabin. There may be an occasional chair scrape, but most reviews indicated there was no problem at all. 7440 has the bed facing the interior wall/desk. 8448 has the bed facing one of the windows. I'm looking forward to that view. ;)

If you sail before May, please let us know how you liked it.

    happy cruising to 'ya!!
