  1. One of my parents works for Carnival (corporate) and gave me a good tip about this - on port days, the Fun Times lists the contact person and phone number for each port. Take the number with you just in case and call it for help if you get into a jam (running late, stuck in traffic, etc). If I recall correctly it's usually on the back page toward the bottom in smaller print.

This! On our Glory cruise I took photos of that contact info from the daily FunTimes to keep on my phone while in port. The contact info is also in the Hub app but the app doesn't work while in port unless you're standing next to the ship IIRC. A screenshot of the info in the Hub app would work just the same.

  2. Empress was booked through the end of 2017 already when she was first found on the schedules at Key West. They have now extended those bookings to 2019.

RCL has taken all the bookings they had for the Pullmantur Majesty at Grand Cayman from to the end of 2016. They currently have Empress booked for 26 calls in 2016 at Grand Cayman.

Currently the final booking made for Grand Cayman is for November 29, 2016.

Currently the final booking made for Key West is for April 28, 2019.

This could indicate that Empress will make same changes in itinerary from December.

The calls at Key West are usually every other Sunday and then alternatively every other Tuesday.

Thank you for this reminder. I had to cancel our May 28 Empress cruise due to some changes in my work schedule, but I'm currently scoping Labor Day weekend for a quick getaway. I checked the Grand Cayman port schedule and Empress is due to stop at GC on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016...Labor Day . She's due to stop in Key West on Friday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday, Sept. 7, which could indicate a five-nighter for Labor Day: Saturday, Sept. 3 to Thursday, Sept. 8.

I'll keep watching Royal's website for those September sailings to be listed for sale.

  3. That's too bad about KW shortened and being done on the final day. A full sea day before disembark is something I look for on cruises. The longer time at GC is a plus

I agree. I like the idea of a full sea day before disembarkation, and we enjoyed GC on our last cruise so I'd appreciate the longer stop there. I preferred the original port order for this cruise.

I received the email, as we're currently booked on the May 28 sailing. However, my own schedule has recently changed, and this date may no longer work for me. It would be interesting to learn why the port order was changed and KW day was shortened.

  4. I agree, it seems high, we need more info.

    Ship

    Sailing date

    ...

It also might depend what ship she was on.

    Hello friends ,

So a friend of mine, who is cruising with us ...

Looking at the OP's signature, he's slated to sail on the Legend February 26, and with the OP's quote it sounds like the friend is on the same sailing.

I frequently browse CC from the app and don't see the inline signatures, but I happened to be on my computer with signatures enabled this time :)

  5. If you're willing to go out of Miami and drink a fair amount, the Norwegian Sky does 3 and 4 night with the drink package included in the fare (everyone on the ship gets it), but I'm not sure what that has done to the pricing. If you don't drink, I'm sure it wouldn't be worth it.

Neither DH nor I drink, so I'd rather have a lower fare than an inclusion we won't use

I'd like to try one of NCL's newer ships one of these days, and Royal too. We're new enough to cruising that we don't have any substantial status built up with any one line. We'd love to sail Princess again, but my schedule doesn't always line up with theirs.

  6. depending on the movie, yes I'd watch. however, what food options would be available?

This! DH and I enjoyed Dive-In Movies on our recent Glory cruise. I'm not much of a movie person at home, but watching a movie under the stars in a warm Caribbean breeze is a wonderful way to cap off the day. We'd definitely watch a midnight Dive-In Movie on the night before a sea day.

  7. Thanks OP for posting this question as I've been conducting a similar comparison. Looking for a short, reasonably-priced late summer getaway requiring minimal vacation days from work, and I looked at Victory and Majesty from PC, along with Fantasy from Miami. Depending on how I priced things out, we (DH and I) could get a balcony on Victory for less $ than a Superior OV on Majesty for the same weekend. Not necessarily a surprise though, since I've generally found Carnival's short cruise fares to be lower than Royal's during my recent searches.

Actually, looking at multiple Victory itineraries, that ship is frequently so much lower-priced than comparable sailings, even compared to other Carnival ships. I wonder why? Is it because Victory doesn't have all of the 2.0 upgrades?

I've also seen some mixed reviews about cabin cleanliness and maintenance on Victory. Yes, there are good and bad reviews for every ship and everyone's expectations and perceptions are different, but I wonder if Victory's need for some TLC is reflected in her price?

  8. You are lucky that you got it for that deposit rate, because I just heard that apparently the Vista was not supposed to be included in the sale with a $99 deposit per room rate, but instead was supposed to be $150 per person just like the Alaska and Europe sailings. Apparently they have already changed it. So you lucked out. [emoji6]

Drat! I was awake last night when the $99 deposit sale launched and I considered booking Vista for 2017.....went to bed, went to work, got home and now it's up to $150 pp. Oh well, should've booked it when I first saw it! *puts wallet away*

  9. May 1 2016 out of San Juan.

fitoldguyinspeedo and anyone else sailing an aft balcony cabin on Fascination, please keep us posted about the sound. I booked us into an aft cabin on Fascination for a December 2016 cruise out of San Juan. We are looking forward to seeing the wake from our balcony, but we may want to move to a different balcony or even upgrade to a GS or ES (budget permitting) if the Sound is still around. Any reports on the Sound from the other aftward (but not true aft) balconies?
