  1. Thank you all for your replies. Awesome water taxi website with hotels. We ended up going with the Holiday Inn Express on 17th Street. I called and they said construction should be done by then. Good location and great price. We are only there for one night. SAS rides picks up here so we can head to the POM after breakfast. Thanks again.

  2. Flying into FLL. Cruise out of POM. 4 people. Husband and 2 teenagers. We've been to Miami quite a few times. Not really fans of "mall" places like Bayside Market so thinking stay in Fort Lauderdale. Years since we've been there but would love to spend the evening on the water taxi watching the "lifestyles" of the rich and famous. We live at the beach so really don't care if beachfront. Does anyone know which Fort Lauderdale hotels on water taxi route other then Hilton Marina? I would like to come in a little cheaper but I am a loon about clean rooms. Mixed cleanliness reviews Hilton and Riverside. TIA for any replies.

  3. Interested as well. We went with Picture Window Ocean View because no Sky balconies accomodate 4. Since the room can fit 5 we are going to keep the beds separated for my husband and I so we have more room and put DD15 on pull down and DS17 on pull out sofa. Ugh. My concern is once sofa pulled out I won't be able to get to the head. Anyone have any experience?

  4. Looks like we were on this cruise at the same time! Concur with your thoughts. We went to the Parisienne Cabaret at the Hotel Nationale and enjoyed both the show and the historic hotel. Thanks for the review!

can you tell me about this option? Cruising in November with 18 yo and 15 yo. Tropicana is just out of our league. Hoping for the same vibe just a little cheaper. Any price, transportation tips you could give would be much appreciated.

  5. I see so so reviews of this place. Always take reviews with a "grain of salt" but that said - I'm particular about clean rooms, any experience here? I'm willing to pay for quality but its only 1 night so not going Bahia Mar range lol. PS thanks for the reply!

  6. Arriving FLL 9:30 am Sunday. Norwegian Sky (Cuba!) out POM the next day. We've been to Miami several times so wanted to try something new. Thinking about the staying in Ft Lauderdale. We live at the beach so that is not a deal breaker for us. Really wanted to relax then take one of the water taxi loops to have cocktails and see how the other half lives lol. Finding mixed reviews and pricey hotels. Call me crazy - I thought Miami would be more expensive.

Is the water taxi idea a bust? Does it really go to Hollywood? Any hotel or itinerary suggestions? Thanks in advance for any replies.

  7. Hello

Sailing on the Sky in November. My son will be 18. I understand I will be able to sign for him to have permission for beer and wine. I'm assuming since all of Sky is free beverage he will be "free" as well. Will he also be able to gamble if we allow it? Also traveling with our 15 year old daughter. Will she be able to come to join us in the lounges as well as the comedy show?

Has anyone done the Cuba trip? Is there enough to do on the ship when we are not sightseeing?

  8. I am really enjoying your post. We are booked on the Cuba Sky in the fall. Unfortunately, no balconies were available for 4 people so we are ocean view. We are traveling with our 2 teens, our son will be a senior in HS. Our daughter a sophmore. Both are honors Spanish students who are looking forward to using their Spanish. We know we will be cramped in the cabin. We were able to get 1 that has a fold down bunk for our daughter and a small couch for our six footer. We figured we would leave the beds as twins so more room. Going to be tight lol.

I was able to look at the daily activity sheets you were kind enough to post. My biggest concern is teenage boredom. Our cruise is the one that stays overnight into the next day. Looks like there is still plenty to do on the ship if they get bored. Our guys are very keen on history so I think they will love Cuba. Anyway, hoping to do the same tour you did with Blexie (sp). Looks perfect. Then maybe return to the ship for so relaxation and venture out again to the bars nearby to enjoy some music. Next day souvenirs and markets around the terminal. I know everyone is different but any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to more of your post!

  9. Hey All

Booked on Sky Cuba cruise with Tuesday arrival into late Wednesday departure. High School senior DS 18 and almost 16 DD. Both kids are almost fluent in Spanish. Talked to someone who said Cuba would be boring for my guys. Hate to cancel. Any thoughts appreciated.

  10. Planning a surprise quick 3 day on Sky in February. Time seems to be moving so fast and I really need this "us" time with my 15 yo. We aren't interested in kids clubs etc. It will be just us girls. ( lol my son and husband get to go to a Sox game). Anyway, she comes to bars with me to hear music occasionally. I enjoy my cocktail and we both enjoy the music or shows. I know she is not allowed in the casino but would she be able to go to say..a piano bar or comedy show? We aren't planning on being out late but I would like to take full advantage of the ships entertainment. Thanks in advance for any replies.

  11. Heading out next week. We usually have DH wear his sport coat on plane and just put in overhead. We attended a black tie formal wedding in October so DD12 has beautiful dress that I am tickled she can wear again. DS14 loves to put his "swag" on. Going with dockers, white shirt and as he says a "swagalicious" bow tie and suspenders. We clean up nice. LOL. But my question...is one formal night more "formal" than the other??? Planning on spiffing up first one but going for more "casual" resort wear the second one. Do I have formal vs formal nights wrong?

  12. We have a 2:45 flight out of FLL. Can't decide whether to stay on board as late as possible (we havee FTTF) or rent a car at hertz and drive up A1A to Lauderdale for lunch then on to the airport. We absolutely hate FLL so really don't want to hang there. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  13. OMG guys! Thank you all for the replies. That being said, I urge you to understand the whimsy in which I posted. Yes DD was feeling ill. Yes it was the last day of flounder season. Was she vomiting. No. Is she a drama queen. Yes. As I asked in my post - don't judge me...you raise your kids. I'll raise mine. We giggle all the time about that day. Meanwhile she begged all summer to go out on Uncle Scott's boat...just not fishing LOL
