  1. Very good point pendlerose, I had looked at my labels on the cp but just assumed it would still fit the holders when folded. Looks like I will have to hold off ordering the tag holders and maybe get the wide roll of tape out. Tho I am tempted to try laminating one just to see how it looks.

  2. Thank you for the advice everyone. I think I will def buy some for this year. I remember 2 years ago when we got to the terminal seeing someone's luggage label blowing about on the floor, hope they still got their all their cases ok! Am now going to look on Thanet :)

  3. I have been looking on Amazon at cruise luggage tags, they have some clear ones that you can put your folded tags in that you have printed off the CP. Has anyone ever used them or do most people just do the celotape and stapling thing? Last time we cruised we just reinforced the tags using wide tape so there were no sharp edges or staples sticking out.

    Thanks,

    Sam x

  4. Thank you everyone, I have been relatively symptom free since the end of March after changing my diet (having as little fat as possible). I will try a few others but I have also quickly emailed the insurer back to tell them not to cancel my cover after first telling them to cancel it. I have my consultation on Wednesday to hopefully get a surgery date, fingers crossed my health continues to be ok for the foreseeable future.

  5. Hi can anyone help me please? I am trying to get insurance cover for my cruise having just found out I will not be covered with my current insurer due to me having gallstones. I have 2 quotes from compare the market.com for £347 & £524 but surely it's not going to cost as much as that! I have just tried cover for you.com again and going through their website it now says they won't cover me. Any ideas on who I can go to for insurance thats not going to cost hundreds of pounds? I am worried now as we sail in just under six weeks.

    many thanks,

    Sam.

  6. It's a 14 night med cruise on Ventura sailing 28th June. Going to be a family holiday, me and my OH, mum and dad and sister and her boyfriend. Will be my sister and her boyfriends first cruise, can't wait to see their reactions when they first see the ship :D Think I've been more excited for them than I have myself! X

  7. Hey Girlie!

Hope you are ok and have not had an attack recently. Have your op before you go on the cruise so that takes an attack out of the equation and you can use the cruise as R & R!! But.......you will need to leave at least 4 weeks after the op before going on the cruise, because even with keyhole surgery there can be slight complications.

Without being too graphic...you will have 4 incisions, and the one that causes the most problems is the one through the naval...it takes longer to heal and the one by the sternum can become painful as it connects with "corsetry".

I had my op 6 months ago and feel great, no more trips to A&E for morphine....(mind you, that's wierd stuff!! :D ) but do not undercalculate recovery times, you will have had surgery and a part of your insides removed (YEUUUW!!)

Go forth and eat chocolate!! x

Hi jasperado, just thought I'd let you and others know I have a consultation coming up on Wednesday so should have a surgery date by then. My doctor has told me it's highly unlikely I'll have it done before we go so I've rung p&o and requested a low fat diet (mainly for the evenings, I'll prob stick to salads etc during the day & will be my own fault if I scoff something I shouldn't!), the lady on the phone was excellent and assured me I'll be well looked after :) Have emailed the insurance company to check I'll be covered or how much it'll be to make sure I am covered, just waiting a response now. Was going to ring them but they only open 9 - 5 so I'm never home in time. I have decided that if I get offered date close to the cruise, eg 20th June, I will wait until after we come back but if it's early June then obviously I'll go for it. Only down side is a couple of excursions I'd looked at involved wine tasting, so will have to give those a miss and hopefully do those another time. Will prob the first cruise I do and actually don't gain weight!! Only about six weeks to go now! :D

  8. I noticed it too on the website after reading somewhere on here about weigt limits, didn't know its been like that for 2 years. On our last cruise on Azura 2 years ago, I never gave weight limits a thought. I normally do as others have said, pack it so I can lift it. I wouldn't expect the baggage handlers to try and lift my case if I couldn't do so myself. Saying that, I have got luggage scales from Aldi to try out. Will prob use them when we pack to come home and maybe check my case on the bathroom scales before we go this time. On a 14 night cruise we usually have 1 large case each plus hand luggage, if need be I have a large roller hold-all going spare so can always use that.

  9. I'm trying to remember if it's printed in your cruise paperwork somewhere when you get on board. It was like an overview of the cruise. I'm sure I remember reading it somewhere. I know the dress code is always printed daily on the front of the Horizon paper. X

  10. On Ventura, The Saffron Restaurant is the Mid ship club dining restaurant, and The Bay Tree Restaurant is at the rear.

That's ok then. I don't mind dining at the back of the ship but it is more comfortable mid ships. I think Mandy would prefer it too. Thank you Andy :)

  11. This sounds mad but I don't think I've ever stayed on the ship when we've been in port! It's a great idea though. I might consider doing so for when we are in Gibraltar :)

So far it sounds like Civitavecchia is worth a look. Is it far from the port?

  12. Hoping that when we go on Ventura at the end of next month that we will be able to dine midships. We are on the Club dining again this year, cruising with my parents. My sister & her boyfriend are also going & this will be their first cruise. While it doesn't worry me dining at the rear of the ship I know my dad always prefers to be midships & it might be better for my sister & her bf too. Usually if we ask to be moved they always manage to accommodate us in the midships dining room so hopefully they'll be able to do so for us this time. Has anyone else had to ask to be moved and been successful?

  13. Evening everyone, apologies if this has already been covered in past posts, I was just wondering if there is much to look at or do in Civitavecchia? We have decided that as we have been to Rome twice we would not do a tour this time and just go in to Civitavecchia instead. Any tips or ideas would be much appreciated, many thanks :)

  14. Yes you can use the computers onboard without buying an internet package, but you will only be able to look at the P and O website!

Personally if you just want to transfer photos I would probably take my own laptop, so I can do it in the privacy of the cabin.

Not sure what the rules are about plugging things into the onboard ones. Also not sure the ports would be easily accessable on the onboard ones.

I seem to remember on Ventura the last time I was onboard, the actual PC's were always in a locked cabinet at each desk. Maybe if you asked the staff during manned hours they could allow you access. x

I won't be that lucky to have a time frame like that! NHS website says I could go back to work after one or two weeks so i imagine I would be ok for a cruise. I appreciate that everyone is different with the healing process, I do have a few people going with us so no shortage of baggage handlers lol! At the moment I am doing quite well health wise, no pains, taking pain killers with breakfast and tea in the evening and am still able to work ok so I must be quite lucky. I have read about people fairing much worse than me as you seem to have done, I am really pleased to hear you have made a really good recovery, gives me confidence for my own. X

  16. Thanks for all the replies people, glad I asked on here now. I though maybe someone must have experience and would be able to help. At the moment I am fairly pain free, the odd grumble now and again as if it's reminding it's still there. I am being very careful with my diet, lost 5.5 lbs this week, and will see my doctor Thursday so hopefully I might have an idea of when I could have the surgery done by then. I am all for having it done before we go, if they said today I'd go! From reading your posts I'd better contact the insurer once I've seen the doctor if I know it won't be before the cruise. Thanks again for everyone's advice x

  17. Yes if there's a chance I can get it done I will, it's the first time I've ever had to have anything done, I've been really quite lucky with my health so all this hospital lark is all new to me! As there is six of us going there won't be a shortage of people to help carry things for me :) I will look out for a lady with a teddy bear backpack and if I see you I will say hello. It's getting closer now isn't it :) x

  18. Sorry to hear your husband's was so serious, but glad he made a full recovery. I have had one or two people saying it can get serious like that. As soon as the doctor had finished my scan (I have a couple of large-ish stones) I did say to them about the cruise and all they said was to have a great time. They did say there is a possibility I could get the op done before we go or after we come back. Obviously before we go would be better, if I could pick a time I would say end of May or start of June then it would give me a few weeks to get better properly before we go. Hopefully I will know more after my next appointment and will soon make as good recovery as your husband did.

  19. Thank you for the advice, I do have an appointment next week so I imagine they will tell me what diet to adapt to and also if I am definitely going to need a little op. At the mo I am already cutting back with my diet & also on pain killers twice daily which seems to keep me on track. Will def contact P&O knowing they can offer me low fat options should I need them. Only downside will be probably having to stick the non alcoholic cocktails & drinks on board, though I might try a sneaky glass of champagne at sail away :)

  20. We are due to sail on Ventura at the end of June but I have just been diagnosed with gallstones & may have to have my gallbladder removed. This could be done either before my cruise or after, I am determined not to miss my holiday! If its scheduled afterwards, I wondered if it would be advisable for me to contact P&O with a low fat dietary request? Or would I better off just being extra careful what I choose off the menus? Just wondered what anyone else on here would do? Thank you :)
