  1. How was the room? We booked it for this Sept. How do you access the semi private balcony?

    Trishlo73,

The room was large and we loved the location and easy access to the semi private balcony. The AC was NOT cool. We've been lucky in the past and never had a room without good AC, but it wasn't as bad as others in that area. Ask your steward for a fan and you will be OK. September should be better in terms of temperature.

There was NO noise from outside, above, or from steward's closet.

To access the balcony you walk out of your cabin door, turn left and take about ten steps; go through two doors and you are there. Make sure you allow inner door to close before opening outer door; keeps wind from rushing in.

  2. I just booked one of these on the Magic. How does the semi private balcony work? Where is the door to get to it?

It's nice to see they've changed tactics; I got a legal notice a few years back advising me they would be filing suit against me for my CarnivalCruiser.net website. At the time I had a few family cruise photos and nothing objectionable. I ignored the letter, but did reply to the email that I am a Carnival Cruiser and they are Carnival Cruise Line. I don't claim to be Carnival.com or affiliated with Carnival.

  4. ............... He could not find the book that had my name and room number on it for the towel deposit.

    .............

Towel deposit? I normally lug mine to the room and deposit it on the floor in the bathroom. Never have paid or been asked for a deposit. Perhaps it happens, but I've not noticed.

  5. My fiancé and I are going on a short cruise for part one of our honeymoon. We booked the Liberty to Nassau and Princess Cays. We've already been on the Liberty, and it is one of the best cruises we've been on (itinerary is a large part of why).

However, I'm not sure if it will be the same the second time around. I'm also considering Inspiration out of Long Beach, CA. I've never been in a Fantasy class ship nor have I done a west coast cruise.

What do you guys think I should do?

    TheBeatnik,

We've sailed Liberty five times and each cruise was unique. We've sailed Pride twice, Breeze three times, SunShine three times; discovered new things each time.

  6. Paul, when are you sailing? Are you going to write a review? The Magic is a great ship with a great crew.

    tlw440,

    We sail July 8.

I'm not sure yet about doing a review. If I get everything organized and time allows afterwards...

We're really looking forward to Magic; we'll have all three boys with us on this one so a review will be more likely.

  7. ...............

We had the Cheers Package and a Deck 9 Forward Inside Cabin. Which was great we were 2 doors away from access to the open deck right on top of the bridge wing.

    ..........

    tpmartin,

Did you happen to notice if there were any lounge chairs out on the front decks? I know they have them on some ships, but of the pics of Magic that I have seen only very few show any lounge chairs. Our cabins are on deck 11 so we'll be two decks above, but maybe you saw some?

  8. I've seen a lot of changes over 13 years of sailing with Carnival. Some I like (Pixels, the lanai on Dream- and Vista-class ships) and some I don't (Playlist Productions). Nothing's been a deal breaker. We're booked for 2017 and 2018.

    NYBumpkin,

    Same here.

Some of the changes were things I didn't think I'd like; Your Time Dining. Huge change. Tried it when it came out and while I still miss meeting new friends, I wouldn't go back simply because it's so much more convenient.

Table cloths? Didn't that change happen over a year ago?

What people wear or don't wear to dinner? I rarely notice what other people are wearing and can't imagine my meal being affected by what someone else wears.

Future Cruise purchase changes; penny penching perhaps, but there were very few people taking advantage that I saw and I preferred when we could buy certificates and not actually book. We booked both with certificates and booked while on board and now we'll have several weeks after to book or not book.

We are booked through July 2018 so it's safe to say we're sticking with Carnival. Eventually they will open up perks to allow us to book any Carnival brand and that will be a great move for them and us as well.

  9. We had an aft wrap on deck six on Dream and while we enjoyed it very much, there's no way I would opt for a regular balcony on deck six vs a regular on deck 11; Deck 11 (Panorama) wins hands down. We've had deck six aft wraps on Breeze and we've had Panorama deck regular balconies on Breeze and Panorama is by far the best option unless you have an aft wrap. Our next cruise is on Magic and we're on Deck 11 because the aft wraps were booked.

The Lanai (Deck 5) is far enough below deck 11 to be a non issue unless you look straight down.

As for movement, there's movement everywhere; its a ship on the ocean. If there's a lot of side wind, there will be movement.

If deck 11 were $200 more than deck 6, I'd still book deck 11.

  10. I can only afford either a cruise (to HMC) or a weekend in St. Maartens, but not both, and I need to decide which one to take my 20 year old daughter to this summer, who has never done a cruise nor flown to the caribbean......

    lboiv001,

Flying to an island is fun, but since your daughter has never cruised nor been to the caribbean then cruise is her best option IMO.

  11. We have 11204 booked on Magic for this July. We booked last July in a balcony cabin down the hall, but our friends and our two sons are booked at the front so when it opened up we switched; and yes we may get bumped, but so be it. This will be our second ocean view cabin and our first ocean view was in 1989. Since 1989 we've enjoyed 'private' balconies, but I'm sure our semi private will be fine. We were also going to have to pay $200 for the spa package to join our sons and friends, but since it's included with the ocean view that's another perk.

If anyone has any pics of 11204 on Magic, please share!

  12. As I said in my Vista review, I think it's to keep people from "falling" overboard. About the only place I can think of that they could easily go over without hitting a deck below them is from a Cove Balcony.

    firemanbobswife,

If I were to fall off from more than a level or two above the lanai, I'd rather land on water. I guess it does make it easier to find people that fall........

  13. The only thing wrong with the Havana cabins on the 5th floor is that darn 7 ft glass wall on the side of the ship......

    Jim,

Yeah I guess they think they need it for some reason. There are many ships with 3rd floor decks that people can walk on and none of them have 7 foot glass walls. My guess is so the glass is the same height all the way and not just elevated where the hot tubs are located?

  14. Enjoying your review Jim. I'm not so sure the aft wrap will have the same appeal as before. Dream Class changed them a lot and it looks like Vista made them moot. I think Havana Cabana will be the way to go...........and reading your review makes me again wish we had went! But had we went, we'd be back already so...:loudcry: The way you are describing your time is like you had your area and then the Havana area and you just visited the rest of the ship. I'm liking that notion!

  15. Paul, we thought of you and your family often during the cruise including looking up at the aft wraps from the Havana area and a pic you will recognize from Jack's shack that I will post tomorrow. Know all about waiting..... We are doing the Horizon next July 3rd out of New York, you should join us. Hope to get to sail with you again sometime in the future.

    Jim,

We looked hard at Vista for next summer, but ended up booking Sunshine again.

I'll be watching for those pics. I think a Havana Cabana might entice me down from the aft wrap.

I'll look at Horizon and see if she's an option; SunShine is July 20 next summer.
