1. You really cannot do it from the beach unless you are an Olympian Long Distance Swimmer. While "The Wall" is close to the shoreline of Grand Turk, it is not within a 100 yards or so of the shoreline. Plus you want to be right on the edge of the wall to get the full effect. The ship's tour or a private tour will take you to that exact location.

That said, it is a great experience to take the ship's tour or a private tour. Did it once on a HAL cruise and along with "The Wall" we went to another area to snorkel and saw a nurse shark and a barracuda. One of the best snorkel trips ever.

  2. Do you just write an extra tip on the bar slip?

That's what we do on RCL and we love that feature. On the other lines we have cruised on, we have had to carry the cash and tip in cash. Consequently, we tend to not tip extra on the other lines.

Seems to me that the extra line on bar slip to add extra tip would make the bartenders happier.

It is also more adventageous to pick 1 or 2 bars per cruise to be your regular bar. Get to know the bartenders there. Those are the bartenders that you take very good care of and they take very good care of you.

  3. We've gone to it on both of our cruises and will on the next two cruises we have planned. However, I have panic attacks in large groups of people and last time we got there right after they called it. I was in the row right against the wall with a ton of people in front of me. I started freaking out a bit and hyperventilating. Next time will wait till the majority of people go in so I can be in the front. Really started my cruise off badly. I just couldn't believe how many people they packed into such a small place. My poor DH. He knew what was going to happen when they kept putting people in front of us.:(

I have the same problem. I go early and tell the person at the station that I am clostophobic (spelling?). Sometimes they allow me to stand at the railing and other times they send me to the lounge with those that are handicapped.

  4. I am also a very picky eater but Hubby loves food of any kind and likes experimenting with the faboulous. I hate seafood of any kind and appreciate only the red wines. So your answer to Hugh's dilemma will help me decide which one we should go for.

Would it be easier to explain at the chef's table that it is me and not the cooking that has me leaving the offerings on the plate? Or would it be less noticable at 150?

Love your review and the pictures.

  6. We had to go out tonight but set the DVR just to see the report. Glad it was better than CNN but to bad it couldn't of been longer so they could go into more detail about how you looked for the owner, how much you and the owner have in common, and that the dive where the camera was lost was to recover an anchor from a WWII ship for a museum.

The whole story is amazing even without the turtle. But the turtle is soooooooooooo cool. And you looked cool on camera.

  7.
Awesome! Now my pony and I won't have to pay extra for the use of warm beds in the Thermal Suite!

    Thanks Royal Caribbean!
I hate to be the barrier of bad news but that's not what "hot racking" means.

But don't worry, you are diamond plus so certaintly you will be get your choose to utilize the cabin either in the day or during the night. Another reason to wear that diamond studded collar proudly.
  8. Has your pony learned to dance "The Pony" and the dog dance "The Dirty Dog"? If so, you should be comped all of your drinks as that would be some true entertainment you provided for free.

Do want to know how you keep the sibbling riverly down on a cruise? I could just see a food fight between your dog and pony in the MDR! And would the cat get in the middle of it?
  9. I thought dogs were from Neptune?

Nope they are from Venus - the planet of Love - otherwise known as Texas.

Now they can go to the Neptune Lounge on HAL cruises if they are booked in a Deluxe Suite or Penthouse Suite but that is another cruiseline. Maybe we should go over to the HAL threads and see what the policies of dog and pony shows are on HAL?

  10. Those cats....boy do they deserve to be told a thing or two....I mean, think of the crew....how uncomfortable they must be during the Cat cruises....

Cats are sooooooooooooo demanding, they want everything when they want it and the way they want it. But dogs - they love any attention at anytime in anyway. Dogs must really be from Texas - they are always friendly and up for some good fun.

  11. What all self-respecting ponies wear on formal night.....

I saw a pony get turned away at the door for wearing inappropriate attire once. Good thing too, because I can't stand ponies who come into the dining room without proper attire. Do they think the rules only apply to all the other ponies and not themselves?

PLEASE!!!! That dress is much to short for formal night! It should be at least cocktail length and not such a mini skirt! Remember - we never know who is also cruising, there could be a horse pedeophile sitting at your table. You are just asking for trouble dressing your pony like that!

  12. My undertanding of the rules is that dogs have to be kept tied up on the poop deck at all times.

Well that's the rule for dogs but is it the same for cats? You know those cats are just so sly! And they only behave when they want too. Those cats should only be allowed to cruise during spring break and summer and there should be a "Dogs and Ponys Only" Cruises.

  13. Great thread however you forget one thing,

Occupants of the K9 suite get concierge access, discount vouchers for the dog grooming parlor, and complimentary C&A logo dog wear. Please state size and breed of dog when ordering through gifts & gear. This suite is only available on Oasis class ships.

You are up early, aren't you? Hope this thread started your day with a smile. For me, I will go to sleep with a smile tonight. Thank you Chef_Christoph and other posters for a fun time!.

  14. PLUS, you will find us in the Schooner bar most nights performing together. That's free entertainment for the other guests. Wee call ourselves, "Hull and Oats"

    ROTHFLOL!!!!

Can we bring our own dog food, or will we have to buy it on board?

    :D

You have to buy it on board - however, if you put the food into plastic baggies you might be able to smuggle it on board. Just remember, if you get caught you will have to go to the naughty room.

Scott, I am afraid that I can tell you why Royal Caribbean killed your dog.

It was a St. Bernard, wasn't it? And he was carrying smuggled booze in that cask under his neck, wasn't he? And he was caught, right?

They tell you that they reserve the right to destroy confiscated booze, AND the container it is smuggled in.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    :(

    ;)

I think you are on to something!

  15. I was told that due to recent changes to the C&A program, the free Happy Hour Alpo has been discontinued. However, a secondary location has been made available where we can find Alpo at a reduced rate.

Not only is it Alpo at a reduced rate - it is only dry Alpo, not at all like the canned Alpo served in the Concierge lounge. Nor do they put the dog treats on the bed at night, unless you are in a GS or better.

  16. So Royal Caribbean discriminates against mixed species families now? My pony doesn't eat nearly as much as an adult would. This is just bad business practices by Royal Caribbean.

Well, maybe not. But your pony also doesn't participate in revenue generating activities like the bar, bingo, art auctions, spa treatments and since there is no horse racing - the casino. Therefore, while your pony may eat less, it also doesn't produce as much revenue. And don't forget, they have to hire an extra person for the free "poop patrol" (don't forget, you really should tip them).

  17. And now that I have a dog AND a pony, the rates should drop because there will be four of us in the room.

I really hate to burst your bubble but your pony is double sized so you will need to get a second cabin or a family suite. But the good news is you can call the special services division and they will help arrange the special diet your pony will need. I'm sure the filet migon will be just fine for your dog.
