  1. i just booked for the ncl epic 10 days canary cruise january 2016!!!!!

latitude rate plus ubp plus udp plus 110obc total with tax for 2 guests 1713usd balcony cabin!!!!

only udp and ubp would cost me more than 1500usd for me and my wife for this 10day cruise!!!Great deal!!!so after tax it comes down to 85usd per person per day!!!only the ubp is 54 per day...go ahead guys book!!

    Hi

we're on this cruise too :) we saw it and like yourself thought great price it was £569 pp for our balcony room with UBP and $200 OBC (we chose the OBC instead of the UDP)

it will be our first NCL cruise and especially excited because we depart on my birthday :D

  2. this is just from the ncl.co.uk web page

in the terms and conditions section (the link was under the UBP description) it says the following

    Terms & Conditions

Please note that we charge 15% gratuity and on cruises from/to Spain and Italy

we are required to charge an additional VAT.

so to me that's pretty clear that VAT is charged from these ports

what's not clear is will it be charged if my UPB was freebie  if I never paid for it in the first place then how can I pay tax on it ?

  3. How do you get the 2 choices unless this is only offer from the European sailing?

yes we sail from Europe and this is the current offer from ncl.co.uk

Yep that is the form, fill out one for each guest needing accommodations. One for the vegetarian diet and no dairy. And a separate on for the wheelchairs unless the same person is both the diet needs and wheelchair.

    thank you :)

  4. With a limited diet of vegetarian and no dairy I would not wait until on the ship. The access needs form from the access desk states Vegetarian as one of the diet options they can accommodate. This form will help the ship plan for her meals rather than scrambling with each maître de.

i think i have that form to fill in :o it was sent to me after booking and is headed

    Guest Special Request Information

    the first question is

allergies/ special diet please specify any special dietary requests or any kind of allergies you may have

but then it goes on to say

please meet with the restaurant manager or executive chef once on board to further discuss your dietary needs

i hope this is the correct form it is was sent to me in a email headed information for wheelchairs

  5. which would you chose ?

we have two rooms booked and were given a choice of 2 free extras

UBP (we have chosen to have this)

and then the 2nd option was either $200 room credit per room OR the UDP

I have initially chosen the $200 per room because i was initially unsure about the UDP, we have a young person dining with us who is Vegetarian (also the food must be dairy free)

but looking into the speciality restaurants and digging deeper with research now i'm not so sure

looking at the sushi, asian and teppanyaki place i can see that these menus should easily accommodate my daughter and also the salad bar at moderno

OUR initial thinking was to take the OBC as the 2nd option, speak to the maître d in the various restaurants to see how accommodating they can be with my daughters more limited eating choices and then if it all sounded good buy the UDP once we got on board

now i'm not so sure ?

  6. +1

It's pretty much worth the admission price by itself.

really good to know thanks :)

Actually, if you do not order an entrée, there is not supposed to be a charge ;)

    Perhaps that has changed.

As an RN what I do know is that there are all manner of vegetarians. Vegan, the most strict, do not consume egg or dairy products. Ovo-lacto, as it sounds do consume both. My sister would occasionally consume fish.

I find that many people are not 'allergic' to dairy products but are rather lactose-intolerant, lacking the latase (enzyme) in order to break down the mild sugar, or lactose. Many people become tolerant as they grow up. It helps to take lactase tablets, drink Lactaid milk, acidopholus milk and so on. Often the active culture yogurts are tolerated due to the pro-biotics which help break down the milk sugars.

In true dairy allergy there may be other culprits. I bring the chewable tablets on cruises and can have a dish of ice cream or cream soup/sauce if I like. If I forget, then I will be miserable. Which category does your daughter fall into?

I think the salad bar at Moderno is wonderful. Marinated garbano/kidney beans and other legumes, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, hearts of palm and several others.

Garlic mashed potatoes, (enquire as to dairy), fried bananas, rice and beans the sides. Most don't know that the cheese rolls are gluten free as they use tapioca flour instead of wheat. Still, with true dairy allergy rather than lactose intolerance this might be another issue.

Desserts at Moderno have egg, milk or gelatin in all three, but the grilled pineapple, the juices caramelized with a hint of brown sugar and cinnamon, is outrageous.

Cagney's has no vegetarian mains and an Arugula Salad that might suit.

Sides such as Steamed Broccoli, Green Beans, Roasted Mushrooms, Onion Rings, Cagney's Fries, Grilled Beetroot and Red Shallots as well as Orzo Pilaf are available.

What does she normally consume for protein? A note sent to NCL at least a month out will provide lots of additional information, including what they can modify so your daughter has a positive, even tasty experience. :)

my daughter is truly allergic to all diary and tends to follow a vegan diet which we find is easiest way to avoid the diary, she was pescatarian up until a few years ago and then made a decision to no longer eat fish which limited her diet even more so, her protein comes from vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds, rice, beans, tofu, soy and quorn :)

this thread has been really helpful to read of other peoples dining experiences and I do find it doesn't hurt to ask how they have found the dining on board when you have restrictions or if you just don't eat meat

  7. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance, otherwise, they charge you. Before you book I'd check to see if they CAN accommodate the person with the allergy. OTOH, not all restaurants actually need a reservation if you're willing to have a little leeway in regard to when you wish to eat.

    Harriet

thank you Harriet this is good to know :)

we know we have to seek out the food and beverage manager on that first day to have some discussion re all of this

  8. thank you to those who have replied i appreciate the helpful suggestions

my daughter does not eat fish at all and i will as suggested check out the other menus for Le Bistro and La Cucina and see if these would be more suitable

dos anybody know what happens if you book a restaurant and then need to change that reservation at the last moment if the dining venue/ menu cannot accommodate someone with a allergy ?

  9. just looking for opinions

we're a family of four and looking for info on eating at Cagneys or Moderno with one of us being a vegetarian (and allergic to dairy)

the blurb for Moderno says best salad bar on the ship :) and my husband would love a decent steak

we'd like to eat as a family but not sure if my daughter could be accommodated

anyone any experience they can share that would be helpful ~ thanks in advance

  10. It's at 10%

Total tax for us on the Spirit canaries in Jan was around $10.

(was not going to argue over that so paid it)

Taxed on drinks in BCN and Malaga upto about a couple of hours after sailaway.

if eating early ask the server to scan the drinks at the end of the meal they may miss the cutoff.

ahh so would this be correct ?

we will be charged tax on the UBP drinks we consume until we have sailed away from bareclona and then there will be no tax until we come to Malaga ?

(other places we visit are Morocco, Gran Canaria, Tenerife & Madeira on this cruise)

  11. Hi

    I'm totally new :)

just wanted to ask does anybody know for sure if I will be charged the tax on my drinks using the UBP when cruising from Europe

we have just booked for jan on a ten night Barcelona to the canary islands cruise and the package was free for each guest as part of the booking promo

I don't mid paying the tax just trying to figure out if it will apply all through out the cruise or just for when we're in Barcelona and Malaga

    and is the tax 20 % ??

    thanks in advance
