  1. One thing that I have not seen mentioned is a file folder or something similar, some of the cruise lines do not put the photos they sell in a folder but just a bag so you will want something to protect those photos. And you can also use it to put the daily papers in if you save them.

I've always found the small drawers in the desk to be a problem, DH throws his change, receipts, etc in there. Now I take the paper cap off the glasses and use those to hold change and take the envelope out of the back of the binder to hold receipts. The paper cap also works well for everyday earrings, rings etc that I don't want to lock up every night because I will just put on the next morning.

I like to have paper towels to wipe up spills or keep the drink area cleaned. I take them off the roll and fold up but on NCL I found the towels in the public bathroom would work great. (looks a little odd walking out of the bathroom with a wad of paper towels but whatever...) I will probably take some on our next cruise because I am not sure of Carnival's towels.

Now, I have a serious question... I have heard many times of people taking old undies and then throwing them away. Just where did you throw them away? You know that the cruise line has to go through all the trash to separate recycle things from non recycle right? I just can't imagine throwing away my undies in the ship. So did you do it on land at a port? Take them in a baggie and toss in the first trash can?

  2. Thank you so much for all the pictures! I looked at all 8xx of them. The shots of your DH out on the balcony having coffee are killing me. I can't wait to go. I like how you put your pictures for each day leaving the ship before the tour photos.

Tell me about shots 625 and 626, was that for a special occaision? Something new? Hopefully it was for you and not the new bride.

Have you done a review? How was the Segway tour? Hope that is not how you broke your thumb. We are thinking about it but worried about standing that long, do your knees lock up?

  3. We sail Victory July-- "if" I can get to one on embarkation or so I can try for photos--the cabin #?
Oh, that would be great, cabin number is 7425.

You will not regret it, and won't be able to go back
Yeah, I am afraid of that! :) Glad to hear it, DH was a little hesitant but we do use the balcony every evening for sail away.
  4. I made it through page 40 and have 7 pages of notes, can't wait for this cruise. AND a 9C opened up last night and I snagged it, I don't care if it is more, I've wanted a wrap balcony since we started cruising in 2001 and now we have it! :D

Thanks for all the pictures and suggestions, we have been on Victory before back in 2007 I think so the ship will be familar but everything is way out of our experience. Wonder do people ever fall down drunky at muster so late?? :)

  5. The personal computer and personalized stationary were not available when we cruised on Sky. Other than that, the list seems to be correct. I am not sure how many are traveling with you but don't forget to use that second bathroom! ;) We knew it was there but kept forgetting about it until the last day.

Also, we had lounge chairs which prevent you from being able to see the sea since the balcony guard/rail is metal. We did not think to do this but we should have asked the steward and/or butler to change them out for a table and four deck/sit up chairs. The lounge chairs really took up a lot of room and were not very good for entertaining.

  6. I was in the Captains, Chief Engineer's and the Hotel Mangers cabins on HAL's Veendam, all of those were very nice large 2-3 room suites with ocean views. In the area where we would normally have a dining table they had a desk, computer and work space. I seem to recall the Captain had an actual dining table in his quarters though. The Hotel Manager took us to the crew lounge/bar which had quite a few people in it for 3pm on embarkation day, we weren't invited back there again though. (no, we didn't act up!) I think that day only they would allow civilians in for a certain period of time. The Captain and Hotel Manager were traveling with their wives for that cruise and they had a number of personal items such as family photos, etc displayed. The Captain was ending his time on the ship and the wife said it was a job to pack it all up. Lots of built in shelves and drawers so she had to remember where she stashed everything. We didn't see the regular staff cabins so don't know what they were like. They did have an officers mess which we saw from the doorway but didn't visit. The wives were allowed to freely go about the ship and took us with them to the private island where everything was comped (floating mats, etc) and then showed us the BEST shopping places! Of course all of this was pre 9/11 so I don't know if the officers would be able to grant that much access now since these quarters were all very close to the bridge.
