Thank you all for your insight. We are looking to book another cruise. My biggest problem is that I don’t like to book a year in advance,(did that once and the waiting killed me).
We have been on 4 cruises, the experiences have been from omg to bleh, our priorities are the accommodations, and the food. I am open to suggestions. The more I read the more confused I get.
Thanks for your help.

my wife and I are trying to book the Royal Caribbean vision of the seas out of Los Angeles 11/29/18. We have cruised 4 times previously all with a balcony. This cruise is sold out of suites and balconies. They say if we book an ocean View if there is a cancellation we can get upgraded.
What are the odds of that happening? 16 days is a long time....
How bad is an ocean view room?
Would you risk it?

I posted a review somewhere on this site. In short old ship refurbished. Common areas nice. Room not clean, service poor, food blah. Poor drinks, In no way similar to my experience on the Solstice in Alaska.

I had 8146 December 3rd-10th. The location is great, I was greatly disappointed with my experience on the Summit.

I wanted to buy a macbook on board. This was before they gave away OBC. They didn't have them in stock when we were at sea but they managed to get it for me when we called on Bermuda. I think the OBC has a lot to do with the stock issue. If you have all four perks there really isn't much to spend your OBC on. Passenger figure that $300 is a large savings on apple products that don't get marked down by apple until a new and better product comes out and even then there isn't much savings.
My point exactly.
-
Half tongue in cheek - I am a Windows user but understand Apple allegiance, however Windows products are much cheaper for similar features.
I agree. I don't like paying the Apple tax. With the OBC it is reasonable.
-
If you are interested in saving money, you could just buy Windows products on land.:p
Why?
-
12/3-12/10. I am more cynical. I think the goal/plan was to wait until OBC IS USED, then have me buy the IPAD.
No other Celebrity ships in port.

I just got off the Summit. I went to purchase an Ipad on the first night to use my OBC. I was told they didn't have any in stock. They should get some at the first port. I left my name and room number and asked to be notified when they came in.
If you don't use your OBC you lose it right?
So at 7:30 pm on the last night of the cruise I get a phone call telling me I can come down and purchase an IPad.
Can I call BS? What did we get a helicopter delivery?

Just got off the Summit 12/3-12/10...My wife and I were very confused about the hoopla regarding Kate. She seems like a nice person, but I am still waiting on her to levitate or walk on water....

For $1,000 less we went from aqua class to a regular veranda, kept the drink package as a part of Bigger, Better, Best promotion. Gave up $250 of my OBC.
We were not that impressed with Blue. I can see us eating at the Tuscan multiple nights. The way I look at it, $1,000 is half the price of our next cruise!

There is an out door grill, I don't remember the name, the burgers were great! I made them mad because I requested that they let the cheese melt on the burger, but they were excellent. don't tell my wife because she has no idea how many i ate.

Tuscan!!!! We were on the Solstice May 1-8, we ate ate the Tuscan Grille 3 nights. Booked the first night and paid before we sailed, there was a 50% coupon in the aqua class suite on the first night only. Food was great. Rib Eye, minestrone soup, my wife said to make sure you try the lasagna!!!! Caesar salad. If you get a chance have Stipe be your server, The best!! tell him Tom said hi

Ribeye at Tuscan Grill, There is this steak crepe at the bistro on five OMG!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I currently have all three of the 123GO incentives, plus about $450 in on board credit. I guess I'm a firm believer in the phrase, "there is no such thing as a free lunch".
The drink package might be worth it in the Caribbean in water alone!

Hello, My wife and I have cruised three times.
1. 7 day Mexican Riviera, Holland America
2. 7 day Southern Caribbean RC
3. 7 day Alaska Celebrity
I think we are hooked enough to take one cruise a year. I booked a cruise while on Celebrity for a 2016 Southern Caribbean, I got 123 Go, plus $450 OBC, AQ class.
My problem is that when I think about it, I am not sure the AQ is worth the extra $$. We loved it on the Alaskan cruise because my wife and I spent a lot of time in the Persian Gardens. We would go lay on the heated tiles and use the sauna's for about 2 hours a day. Blu was good, we ate dinner at the other
specialty restaurants 4 nights.
On the Caribbean cruise I know we won't use the Spa as much because of the climate, and we will not be on the ship that much.
If I book the cruise and get a Veranda, I can save enough to pay for my specialty dining.
If the difference in price is $1000 US, am I just paying for the 123GO in reality?

Thanks Karen, I guess I will write a review. I wanted to know what some veteran cruisers thought, and those that have sailed celebrity many times before thought.

So, I was on the Solstice for the May 1st cruise, I am surprised that with all the conversation before the cruise the board is quiet in the aftermath.
Does the roll call close after the cruise? I tried to access it and could not find it..

Just returned from the May 1 Alaskan Cruise on the Solstice. First time on Celebrity. For Dinner we ate at Murano once, Tuscan 3 times, and Blu three times. I obviously preferred Tuscan! Great food great service. Murano second.
I do not eat lobster, but Murano had a lobster dish prepared table side that looked and smelled wonderful!
I had Ribeye three nights at Tuscan, once at Blu, there was an obvious difference in cut an and quality of meat in Tuscan.
The wife and I were commenting this morning that it would be hard to return to MDR after a week like that.

Just got back from the Solstice Alaska cruise. Easy to eat low carb. I gained 2 lbs, Success! I stayed on plan about 75% of the time, worked out daily.

If there are enough drinkers onboard and you stay up late(early) enough, you will see the fight.
Excellent!
Polo shirt to me is a golf shirt, three buttons and a collar.
I hate formal anything! But I respect traditions and customs.
If you don't know what "the fight" is, you probably live a very fulfilling life.
Alaska is my bucket list cruise, I was attempting to have a more upscale dining experience.
Two previous cruises were Mexico 7 day HAL, and 7 day Southern Caribbean
out of San Juan on RC.
Thanks for your replies. This is an excellent Forum, but I get lost in here for hours at a time.

Solstice to alaska 5/1/2015
We are staying in Aqua #1628.
I need to buy a camera today.
Sell my concert tickets, I will miss opening night of the Summer Jazz Series at a local winery.
Schedule car service from Rancho Cucamonga to LAX
Are they going to show the Fight on the cruise ship?
First time on X, looking for better food than my previous two cruises.
Alaska is my bucket list, the wife likes warmer weather, did the Jewel the Seas out of San Juan last August.
Can I wear Dockers and a Polo shirt to Blu? what about Jeans?
Bon Voyage
Bet on a cancellation?

Thank you all for your help! There have been some good ideas and a lot of wisdom offered. We will use it as we plan future cruises.
For now, we booked the 7 day cruise on the Celebrity Edge departing December 9, 2018. We booked a sunset veranda guaranteed. Probably will be upgraded, but We would be happy either way.
