  1. We last sailed when my daughter was 2 years old. I worried about the car seat issue as well. I ended up deciding to skip the car seat and only bring a light weight umbrella stroller to use on the ship and while in port. The stroller was a life saver. However we skipped all excursions that required any car transportation since we did not have a car seat. Instead we walked around the ports or to local beaches. We flew into the port and had to take a shuttle from our hotel to the ship. The shuttle was a commercial van/shuttle and a car seat was not required. This time around my DD will be 5 years old and I am going to pack a booster seat for her to use on the plane and in any land base car services that we may take while on excursions. I really like the "bubblebum" seat" I also have one similar at home that does not fold up, yet is small and easy to carry.

  2. Following along.. we are going on a cruise in February and I was thinking about the day pass for the Hilton- we will be traveling with an 11 month old though! But would rather go somewhere that we could walk to from the pier!

The Hilton is right next to the FREE Junkanoo Beach. It is separated by a fence. Bring a few beach toys and the toddler will have a blast.

  3. We took the jitney to a resort once for a beach day. Can't remember the name but hated the resort but felt very safe. I don't feel that Nassau is unsafe at all. But I'm from Baltimore (county lol) so I see things differently maybe.

Lol I am from Los Angeles... perhaps that why I felt perfectly safe in Nassau.

  4. We were there a year ago. Junkanoo beach is next door to the Hilton. There will be tons of tourist walking in the same direction so it's very safe. There is even a Mc Donalds on your walk to the beach. There will be a few vendors on the beach with chair and umbrella rentals for about $10.00 with is still cheaper than the Hilton or any other excursion. My kids and I had a great time.

  5. Yes, I would bring a lightweight stroller such as an umbrella stroller. There is a LOT of walking both on the ship and while in port. It really came in handy for my then 2 year old. There is no guarantee you will find one in port especially in the caribbean. Most of the shopping area only sale touristy items like tee shirt and souvenirs.

  6. I sailed to Nassau with my daughter who was 2 at the time and then 12 year old son. I agree it is not a "HOT BED OF CRIME". The kids and I walked to Junkanoo Beach. My daughter at that time was in a small umbrella stroller and I packed all of our beach gear in the basket under the stoller. I'd packed a travel beach mat that I picked up from my local "Big Lots" store for $5.00 which ended up being the best idea ever. I also pick up a blow up pool floatie and snorkel gear for my son again all form Big Lots. There was a nice size crowd of cruisers on Junkanoo beach and we had a great time. I never felt unsafe. There was also music on the beach a bar that serve free drink for kids as well as adult drink and food. Once my daughter was ready for a nap we walked back to the ship and stopped to browse a few shops on the way back to the ship. It was a really nice experience and best of all it was FREE!!

  7. An announcement will be made prior to getting off the ship as to what type of identification you are required to have in port. Most times you will need your sign and sail card and a photo ID. I've been in ports in the caribbean where we were also required to have our passport or birth certificate(for those cruising without a passport). While in the water I place my items in my beach bag near the water and kept an eye on things(Never ventured that far out in the ocean). Amazon has several waterproof options for small wallets/pouches as well. I would not take my CC of the ship a small amount of cash is ideal no need to worry about the card being stolen or about card scammers.

  8. Although you cannot rent a stroller for a child I would highly recommend you buy or bring a lightweight one that can fit under the bed or in a small closet. Although I've seen people with strollers of all sizes onboard. There is A LOT of walking on the ship and while in Port. I plan to bring one for my 5 year old in December. I packed a umbrella stroller for her 1st cruise when she was 2 and t worked well not to mention while in the airport.

  9. I am looking forward to formal night. I am traveling with my 2 children dd will be 5 and DS will be 14 my son will wear a dark suit and bow tie(I do not want to rent and then fly in with a tux) my daughter will wear a formal dress( she has a ton of glittery dresses that she wears often). I am looking forward to the photo opportunities as this will be a great time to have an excuse to dress up and take photos.

  10. I allowed my son to sign himself out of the kids club at 12 years old and was allowed to go to the arcade on his own and to the sports deck for a set amount of time and had to check back with me at the set time and before he could go from one place to another. One night he wanted to go to a late night movie in the kids club and I allowed him to do so only because his then 2 year old sister was asleep. He had a great time on the ship and enjoyed his freedom. I have to add he is very tall for his age, looks older and is very mature and well behaved. HOWEVER a year or so after returning home I saw a special on 20/20 about a 12 year old girl on a Disney Cruise who was sexually assaulted by a staff member in an elevator while in an elevator on her own. The entire ordeal was caught on video. As a parent I could never live with myself had this been my child. My son is now 14 6ft tall, I am not sure that I would allow him to go to and from anywhere on the ship at nite alone(since there are less people around granted anything could happen at anytime; the Disney assault video made me reconsider things a bit.

  11. Better safe than sorry...

I believe the documentation that you listed in your origional post, will be fine. I've sailed as a single parent with both my children and I. At the time my 12 year old had a passport and my 2 year old did not. I was only required to show my 2 year olds birth certificate and my sons passport. No one questioned the absent parent. However I'd packed all other supporting documentation just in case. However there was never an issue.

  12. Be aware that this cruise is only 1 1/2 days long. That's REALLY short. And in the past' date=' they have been terribly overpriced on a "per diem" rate.

2/3 of the guests will see the Animator's show at dinner. Even if they attempt to run the show on the final morning, that is a crazy, hectic time and you won't be able to really enjoy it. There is no way to assure that you will be in the dinner group, but you can attach a request to your reservation. There will be a princess gathering IF you are lucky enough to get tickets (as above, book them on line in advance). Again, this activity will only happen once, there is no way to predict the demand.

As above, the OC will have "open house" hours the first afternoon and then begin regular programming at dinner time. I'm guessing that there is no way to do a longer cruise.....[/quote']

Thanks you for reply. I may now look into another type of Birthday Celebration. Perhaps visit Disneyland here at home. I was excited about this particular sailing as it leaves from San Diego. The overall cost is pricey to say the least and the time is limited. There are 3 of us sailing for 7 day on Carnival Vista in December for the same price of a Disney 2-night from San Diego. Perhaps I will plan to cruise Disney a year or so out.

  13. Hello Everyone,

I am considering booking my 1st Disney Cruise onboardthe Wonder setting sail September 15th 2017 Departing San Diego,CA. This trip will be a 1stMommy and Daughter trip to celebrate my daughter’s 5th Birthday(Sheturn 5 the day before we set sail), big brother is graduating middle schoolthis year and has a lot of activities and trips scheduled including a trip toWashington, DC. I figured this trip for just the two of us would be awesome sinceshe will not be able to take part in my son’s end of year activities. A hugebonus for us is there is no need to purchase airfare.

We live in Los Angeles and would most likely drive to SanDiego the night before the cruise and visit family. Since it is a two day cruise I plan to parkat the port if possible. The followingare questions for anyone who has sailed on such a short itinerary with Disney:

1.) Will there be a Pirate Nite?

2.) Will there be a Princess Meet and Greet? If, yesis there an additional cost? When can you sign up?

3.) Will the kids club open on the first night?

4.) Will we get to experience Animators Plate?

Any other 2 nite tips will be appreciated.

    Thank you

  14. I live in LA and strongly suggest you stay near the attractions such as Santa Monica/ Venice Beach or West Los Angeles/ Hollywood to really get a feel for LA or stay in Long Beach near "The Pike" or "Queen Mary". Both LAX and San Pedro are industrial areas, highly congested with traffic and absolutely nothing to see or experience.

  15. For Caribbean travel I strongly suggest you pack light. Evenwith the heat and humidity I found therewas no need to change clothes frequently. You will most likely need to freshen up andchange clothes in the evening for dinner or change in and out of your swimsuitsthroughout the day if you decided to hang out at or in the pool. While in portif you are planning on a beach day you can wear your swim trunks with a tee shirtor swimsuit with a cover up off the ship. In terms of wearing things more than once;this typically applies to what you wear for dinner on board the ship the restaurantswill all have AC. For example you can wear the same bottom with a different topor the same dress with different accessories. No one will notice or even carefor that matter.

Rinse a few thingsout in your bathroom sink and hang dry just bring a travel packet of detergent(normally a tiny sheet found in the travel section of store like Wal-Mart or Target).
