  1. I'm not sure if this will work for Carnival, but on RCCL this worked and works for each cruise they take.  My friend does not drink, but her husband does.  Her doctor gave her a letter stating that due to medication interactions she can't drink alcohol, and RCCL allowed just her husband to purchase the package.  It may be worth a try to see if your mom's doctor would write a similar note, if you would rather try for the package?

    Hello,

I was looking at the cheers beverage program and it says it is 50 dollars per day.

I was wondering if on days that I don’t drink anything, do I still get charged?  How does this work?

As the before said, it's not per day...you pay for the entire amount up front.  So if you're on a 7 day cruise, and you purchase it ahead of time or on day one when you board, you pay the current day rate times 7 plus tax/tip/gratuity charge.  And no, you don't get any refund if you don't drink on particular day.

Did the video of the packed hot tub look like it was taken at night (say between 10PM and 5AM) at a time when many people typically might be trying to sleep? Or was the video taken in daylight?

It was taken in daylight, I have no idea how busy they are at night.  But my concerns aren't just with sleeping hours...it's also the privacy aspect of the balcony.  It seemed you could practically participate in conversation with the hot tubbers.

  4. Oh gosh, this is my exact worry 😳...and I'm NOT a worrier over details like this, typically.  But this is kinda stressing me out.  We're in 6310 on Magic and I didn't think a thing about it when we booked the room until I saw a video someone posted from that same room on a vlog...and RIGHT out the balcony was a hot tub and it was packed with very happy people.   So now I'm a little concerned.  I tried to move my room with Carnival but was told that I'd have to pay an upgrade to another deck as the only available rooms in our category are in even less ideal locations, bummer.

  5. You can get breakfast, but I don't think they'll allow you to lounge too long by the pool (unless you eat breakfast very early).  They like to get people off so that they can prepare for the next group coming on (usually around 11:30 am).  Also, I've found the earlier off the ship you are, the less line you have for customs.  The later off the ship, the longer the customs line...so with kids that may be something to consider??   Here's what I found for breakfast times on debarkation day:

    • The main dining room serves breakfast 6:30am-8:30am (open seating)
    • The lido restaurant serves breakfast 6:30am-9:15am
    • Cafe on the Way is open 6:30am-9:30am

In regards to sredish's post, adding a name later is not the same as a name change. A name change is what the OP described at the end of their comment. Booking a person in a cabin, then having to change to someone else later. Booking an Early Saver rate does not allow name changes, but if you book one of the other rates, you can change people out without penalties. If you do book ES and need a name change, it's possible (we had to do that too when the family cancelled on us) but it's more involved and you have to pay the $50/person cancellation fee.But you're correct...no need to change if you do TBD.

Right, the OP stated change names in the title of the post "change names without a penalty".  But absolutely, adding a name is not the same as changing.  I should have read the whole post, not just the title.  Ha!  😊  We're getting ready to do just this with a graduation cruise for my son...we don't know the name of the friend coming yet, so we'll add a name later, just put myself on one room and my husband on the other.

I know the cruise I am going on in May of 2020.  I know I will get two balcony rooms,  4 in each.  But I do not know who exactly will be joining me.  I'd love to reserve the rooms, and add the names later.  Is that possible?  Or do I have to pick names, and then pay a penalty when I change?  The penalty threat is keeping me from booking.  Thanks for any input.

    NAME CHANGES

A name change is the cancellation of one guest and the addition of a new guest on a booking. An original guest must remain on the booking, otherwise, this is considered a full stateroom cancellation and applicable cancellation penalties will be assessed to the original guests; new guests will be subject to prevailing cruise and air rates.

Please note: Carnival reserves the right to impose restrictions on name changes based on special circumstances at a sailing level.

For bookings that do not include airfare booked through Carnival, and not booked under a restricted/non-refundable fare*, there is no charge for a name change.

*Restricted and Non-Refundable fares include the following but not limited to these promotions: Early Saver, Pack & Go, Super Saver, etc.

If your booking is made under a restricted/non-refundable fare*, please check the Terms and Conditions of the specific promotion to see if name changes are permitted. If name changes are not allowed, the original guest will be subject to a non-refundable deposit (or full fare) or applicable cancellation penalties. An additional deposit will be required for the new guest.

The following name change guidelines pertain to bookings that include Carnival's Fly2Fun Flexible Air and Restricted Air:

    • If you have booked Fly2Fun Flexible Air and it is outside of the penalty period, there is no fee for a name change; the new guest will need to purchase a new air ticket at prevailing rates.
    •  If you have booked Fly2Fun Flexible Air and it is within penalty period, the original guest is subject to applicable cancellation penalties (plus a $200 service fee if within 60 days prior to sailing); the new guest will need to purchase a new air ticket at prevailing rates.
    •  If you have booked Fly2Fun Restricted Air, at the time of booking, the air is non-refundable; the new guest will need to purchase a new air ticket at prevailing rates.

To make a name change or to find out the exact fees that would be charged on your booking to do the change, please give us a call at 1-800-438-6744 and our Guest Services team will be more than happy to assist. Please note, if you are booked through a travel agency, you will need to contact your travel professional for assistance.

  8. We're also pretty set on taking our son and a friend on a graduation cruise next summer (eyeballing both Galveston and NOLA departures in August 2020).  And side note, still in denial my little 5 lb 14 oz baby is graduating high school next year as a 6' 2" man...noooooooooo!  👶👨‍🎓😭

These are some fun recommendations, I especially like the idea of giving the boys the goodie bags!   Also planned on room decor, a little money on their sail cards, casino play, specialty restaurant one night, a "legal" beer in Mexico, etc.

I do wish that CCL had a mid level drink package like RCCL has.  Like they have one that includes non alcoholic drinks, soda, specialty coffee, etc.  CCL is just soda or booze.  I'd like to get them that, as well...but doesn't look like that's going to happen.

  9. A friend of mine did this once with her kids.  The kids had NEVER been on a cruise and they really didn't know a thing about them.  So she packed suitcases for them, woke them up at the crack of dawn and told them to get in the car.  They handed them a clue to read to figure out what their next "stop" would be, the first stop was the airport.  Of course their guesses were completely wrong and (some) hilarious...grandmas house, Disneyland, the mall, the grocery store, Canada, etc.  Their oldest daughter (who was about 10) kept a video diary of them reading the clues at each stop, trying to figure out what was going on and where they were going.  ZERO idea what was happening, those poor kids didn't figure out a single clue.  The video diaries showed them going to the airport, going to their hotel for the night before the cruise, sitting on their hotel balcony and trying to guess what city they were in, getting into a cab for the port, and finally standing on the sidewalk in front of the port with the GIGANTIC ship right behind them...and they still had no idea what was happening.  My friend posted the port video on FB with the caption, "Guys...just look behind you, already..."  It was hilarious.   The older daughter was giving a running commentary at the port, "So we're in a pretty long line.  I don't think we're at an airport though...but everyone has lots of luggage...I don't know what a port is, but we're in one."

Those are some of last weeks drinks and some of decembers dream drinks. The bottom ones being some of last weeks. They weren't nearly as fancy as the dream team. I've got a lot more on file here.

And here I sit at work wishing I could grab every one of those drinks through my computer screen.  And it's only 9 am.

    • What have your experiences been with children on cruises in September? Most are in school...however our school district (and surrounding districts in our state) have our fall break beginning the end of September, since we start school the third week of July. So just a heads up that not everyone starts school in late August, any more. There will be kids, for sure, but probably not as many as a summer cruise or a spring break cruise. Honestly, we always cruise the first part of October and we always see kids and don't ever have an issue. I don't ever remember thinking they were a pain to be around, or misbehaving, or having parents ignore them.

    • Where are the best places/tips to lounge in the shade on Freedom? We found plenty of shaded places all around...or check out the Solarium pool area.

    • Can any of the bars make an espresso martini? I've never been told they by a bar that they simply "can't" make a drink...now what you receive may not be what you had in mind when you ordered (haha!)...but they'll usually try!! And trust me, you'll find your favorite bartenders around the ship that will create fun drinks just for you! And they always remember you by name...which always blows my mind. Some of our best times have been chatting with the bartenders and listening to their stories from home.

    • How early/late do bars serve alcohol? Can you get alcoholic drinks at Cafe Promenade or Sorrento's? They'll be open late. There was also a bar by Cafe Promenade on Liberty (Freedom's sister ship) that served regular drinks, not just alcohol coffee drinks.

    • Will a bar give you beer unopened? If you ask, they will usually give you one, but not more than one. Then you can just bar hop on your way back to your room and order one from each bar. Not sure if they still do beer buckets at the pool, but you can for sure ask if they do, then take the bucket back to your room (which is what we did). Worst thing they can tell you is no. You can also take two bottles of wine on board into your room for free. I like to enjoy a glass while getting ready for dinner.

    • Has anyone noticed if Freedom has Absolut Pear Vodka? I believe yes, I've seen Pear on two other RCI ships as well as several other Absolut flavors.

    • Can you order Sabor margaritas without eating there? From Sabor, no. But I'm sure one of the other bars can duplicate it for you.

    • In the main dining room, is there a specific cocktail menu available in addition to wine? You can order whatever you want from the bar and they'll go get it for you in the dining room.

  11. Unless the father has sole custody, you will need signed permission from BOTH parents.

And if the Father does have sole custody, have a copy of the court order that shows this.

Agreed. I witnessed a family off to the side at check in frantically calling the child's mother because all they had was the father's signature on the notarized form. We boarded and never saw them again...so not sure if they ever got a hold of her in time, or not.

  12. Wasn't a hassle for us, at all. I've sailed out of Galveston four times and never considered it a hassle, honestly. Flew in from PHX on Southwest the day before. We used Uber to get to the island, we stayed at Moody Gardens the night before, had dinner at The Spot, then met up with a great group from CC for after dinner drinks in the lobby bar, used Uber to get to the port at around 10:30 am, were on the ship around 11:00 am. Easy, peasy!
