  1. Thanks all.

Guess I'll forget it. I don't like doing group things where I don't know anyone - and online doesn't count, too much room for hiding things.

    I'll have fun anyway. :)

Well maybe once on the ship you'll meet up with others who would like to join you.
  2. FYI Off the Summit last year Celebrity said that only American Citizens could do self -disembark, we had never seen this before. As we have done it on every other cruise and only travel with small carry-on luggage we 'broke the rule' or 'ignored it' and walked off anyway. Nobody questioned it or gave us a hard time. I'm a teacher too, and not normally not a rule breaker but I could not see why only US Citizens could get off early.

  3. Good plan, my wife does similar for her hair and nails.:D

A 50 minute massage is $140 or $105 on port days - plus tip of course.

Basic manicure is $42 or or $32 on port days - and yes plus tip.

Basic pedicure is $69 or $52 on port days.

Of course, then I have to convert all of that to Canadian....

I don't mind of others can afford these prices but I find it silly.

  4. My wife would love to start our cruise with a visit to the spa, and I am considering a beverage package for us. Are there discounts offered during day 1 or are prices the same as buying pre-cruise?

I find the on board spa prices so ridiculously high that I start my va-cay at home and have spa treatments before I leave for less than half the price. So far, I've booked a mani-pedi and a hair appointment at a local spa. I'll also have a massage at a different local location. Then, I usually get a shore massage along the way, this time in Cozumel.

I do get the beverage upgrade on board as we have the Classic included. Now that is worth the money!

  5. Used Avis at the airport. They picked us up at a store (Blue Iguana) a few hundred feet down from the port entrance and dropped us back at the port. Due to driving on the 'other side of the road' we were happy to start our excursions out at the airport and not have to deal with the busy city streets.

  6. I take medical coverage, but not cancellation. The cost of cancellation insurance seems to be excessive to me, getting close to 7-8% of the cost of a trip. I've taken enough cruises to have saved enough in premiums to make up for a loss if one occurs.

You still get a refund for Celebrity for prepaid stuff like beverage packages and shore excursions and port taxes even if you don't have insurance. It's just the cruise fare and travel expenses that are uncovered.

It is not only the cost related to cancelling the trip, it also covers an emergency return if needed. My father in law was killed in a car accident while we were on a cruise. I had to throw my credit card on the counter and buy 4 regularly priced one way tickets back to Canada. After all the services, I then had to return to NYC to get my vehicle that I had left parked on the pier.

Yes, I would have paid for it one way or another, tragic as it was, I was happy to have the full amount refunded by our insurance.

  7. For the life of me, why would anyone take a cruise out of the Northeast during the winter.

    Here's why:

We did a 10 night cruise on NCL Dawn out of Manhattan a few years back. Rather than fly to Florida from Burlington, Vt , we drove to NYC in less than 6 hours ( we love road trips). Traveling with our 2 teens, airfare would have been at least $1400 (for the four of us) as it is school break week. Gas was about $100.

Leaving from Manhattan and passing the Statue of Liberty was amazing. We found no lack of things to do while waiting for the outdoor temperatures to warm up a bit. The pools were heated more than normal and I went swimming once past the statue.

We did hit a big storm, although nothing like the Anthem of the Seas.

    Still, I'd do it again.

Flying to Florida wastes a day for us as we have to connect somewhere, usually NYC area, and then Florida hotel rates have spiked.

Many ships leave from the North and the ships are full, you obviously don't have the ability to put yourself in the shoes of others.

I do however feel bad for the passengers of the Anthem who did not get the vacation they were hoping for.

  8. Well, my husband and I have thought about trying Celebrity, but to be honest, this Review has me rethinking that. As for the number of cruises that OP has taken, that is plausible as my teenager has gone on 12 with two more scheduled for this year. However, my concern is with the lack of "things to do" and the "poor quality of food..." has anyone else been on this ship lately and enjoyed it?

Food on Celebrity is better than RCL so you have no worries there. I have yet to travel on the Refection but I'm not worried at all. So far Celebrity has been way above Royal.

I don't need 'things to do'. If you really need entertainment during the day, maybe best to stay on RCL.

Forty cruises and doesn't realize you might need to be up before 11 to get a lounger, seriously ?

  9. I will wear a cocktail dress (very chic but giving up on the long gown) and DH will wear his Tux. He looks fabulous in it and it doesn't wrinkle at all.

We both travel with carry-on's only and still manage to be pretty 'chic'.

  10. I would be reluctant to purchase it pre-cruise in Miami based on the info Celebrity provides. I'm assuming you don't have time post-cruise or you wouldn't be asking. Is this rum something you might find on one of your port stops? Then, there clearly is a table set up at each port to collect and tag booze purchased in each port.

Love rum, curious minds.....please share the brand name. Plus someone might know if they've seen it in a port.

  11. Recently someone posted that they had been upgraded from their interior to a balcony. (good for them!)

It is too bad that Celebrity is doing this...TWO category upgrade?

We were upgraded from an Interior GTY to an OV our 1st cruise (Princess) and were THRILLED. Wouldn't we all be thrilled with an upgrade of just one category?

How about give MORE people upgrades by ONE category? Yes, it would require a bit more shuffling BUT it is a MUCH better PR move--more passengers coming in feeling they have gotten something special...

    JMO...

This recent post the person had booked an interior guarantee. It is easier to put them in a balcony right away rather than start moving around other guarantees. They will not 'upgrade' someone with a specific cabin number without contacting them. This is a much longer and complex process than just re-assigning guarantees.

To me this is a way for X to not reduce prices. Just keep selling interior guarantees..........

  12. My friends are in AQ on the Mar 4th Equinox which they booked a year ago and the "deals" are $300 more expensive!!. They also have the 123 promo. I book really early and all my cruises are much higher now.

If you are looking at Canadian pricing, of course it is more. Our dollar has tanked in the past year. Celebrity has adjusted their Canadian prices accordingly.

  13. Our last two cruises were on the Summit and we loved it so much that now booked on the Reflection (because Summit was chartered our dates) and I'm not even really looking forward to the trip. Then, I tried booking our dates for 2017 and again, she is chartered.....

Summit had everything we needed without any extras. I do not want or need, an ice rink, a climbing wall, a surfing machine, water slides. etc. etc.

We found that there were fewer children aboard, with less things for them to do.

A smaller ship that is easy to get around, has a wonderful bunch of employees, and we particularly had lots of fun at both the Martini Bar and the Sunset Bar.

I would highly recommend this ship!

Plus, a Southern itinerary means you have lots of ports and lots of good weather.

  14. News here has RC CEO saying no discounts within 30 days of sailing for all 3 lines.

Can we get captain's club rep to comment on how this affects the "new" upgrade program?

So looking at another thread, it looks like they are just selling inside guarantees and then assigning balconies. This way it looks like an upgrade instead of a price reduction.

  15. We have cruised twice on the Summit out of San Juan and love the southern itinerary. We also really enjoy San Juan and getting there a day or two early and staying a night after is our perfect vacation.

Unfortunately for us, this year and in 2017 there are charters on the only dates we can travel (being a teacher).

I'm sailing this year on the Reflection (after a canceled Constellation) and I'm not even really looking forward to it as the ports aren't as exciting and going to Florida first just isn't the same. Wish I was going to San Juan and the Summit.

For me this would be an easy choice.

  16. I throughly have enjoyed this post. Obviously there are people on every cruise who think that they are high society or try their hardest to be high society. I see people from all walks of life in my job and when it comes down to it everyone is the same no matter whether they live in a rooming house or a 10,000 sq foot house. I will be on vacation and my vacation will not be ruined by someone wearing flip flops or not dressed "appropriately."
