We did eat in the Steakhouse one night. Patti and I have always been MDR people, but when we were on the Horizon in August things changed. We had Your Time Dining and were enjoying dinner on the first Elegant night. They proceeded to sit another couple at the table 4" from us even though there was plenty of empty space throughout the dining room. Nothing against the other couple but what happened to social distancing? We ate in the buffet or at "other" venues the rest of that cruise. When you think about it, most of what is being served in the MDR is available at the lido. The food comes from the same place,  it's just plated and made pretty for you in the MDR.

On the Panorama we didn't eat in the dining room except for brunch. We ate at the "other " venues for 6 nights and the buffet one night.

We are doing a B2B on the Mardi Gras in April and I see us eating in the MDR only once or twice. 😎

Jeff, this is something we started doing some years back as well, but for different reasons. Most nights we’d grab dinner in the buffet on any given ship because we didn’t feel like dressing up for the dining room and didn’t want to put out the other folk who did. However, we’ve noticed the numbers in the buffet every night have been growing each cruise - is this your experience as well? Loving the review mate, hope to clink a glass with you some day at the Frog

  2. Well, we’re booked on Carnival Spirit out of Brisbane for a week on May 1 - this’ll be number 24 ahead of our milestone 25 on the Celebration TA in November next year. Things are looking better for the restart of Australian cruising; however, given that international flights will be back on and no quarantine for the double-vaxxed, I’ll cheerfully transfer the credit and fly to the States for ten days to do a one-weeker to Alaska or some such.

  3. Great review yet again, Jeff. Big well done to Patti putting in the miles getting the lovely photos.

Your observation regarding dining is very much in line with what we have been thinking - the variety of dining options, especially on the newer ships, is great for reducing crowds and wait times in the traditional dining venues, although I wonder what the knock-on effect on dining wait staff will be?

Here’s to next year! All things being equal, we will be on Spirit in May, then Celebration and Magic in November. In the meantime we get to cruise vicariously through your great reviews. Cheers! 😄👍🍻🍻🇦🇺

I have a July 4th Iceland cruise. So much is up in the air. I have no flights booked, no particular reason to do that now. I'm just waiting to get an understanding of how things progress.

Kwokpot, we’re booked b2b on that cruise and the one before it, June 25. I’m not holding out much hope even being able to fly to England, let alone board the ship, and as far as hotel accommodation in Dover - that’s anyone’s guess.

  5. As the heading suggests, I have a question about the milestone cruise OBC. I understand that it is a future applicable OBC equal to 25% of the cost of cruise 25 and so on, but is that the cruise you qualify on or the future cruise? For example, if our number 25 is a 7 nighter out of Miami but we claim the 25% on a 15 nighter from LA a month later, which is used to calculate the credit? Cheers in advance 😄👍🍻
