  1. We always flew into LAX. Last Nov. we thought we would try LGB, same price as LAX, but we had a connection instead of a non-stop flight. After that trip we decided LGB was worth the extra connection. As others have said, not so much traffic, smaller airport and easy for rental cars as they are right there.

  2. I've always used $2 bills. When I asked the bartenders if they minded them, I was told that they find them to be Good Luck. So on my last 4 cruises I asked all bartenders I met and said I would give them $1 bills if they had a problem with the $2 bills, no takers. Was in Bonaire last fall and I went into a local store. My total was $6 dollars and change so I paid with a 5 and 2 dollar bill. Had no problem and the owner proceeded to ask me if I had any more. I had 5 more and he was willing to give me more than face value. I gladly exchanged the 5 for a 10. Only place I ever had a problem was Aruba.

  3. We booked a cruise for March with FCC and had credit left over. Friends we met on a previous cruise booked for Feb. and invited us to come along. The problem begins with the left over credit. They don't issue the new certificate til after the March cruise which would be too late for the Feb. cruise. So when I called they put a hold on the cruise for Feb. and instructed me to call the Post Cruise Dept. 2 weeks before final payment is due to have the remaining FCC balance applied. And Ken is correct with moving your deposit for taxes and fees.

  4. Its amazing how reality sets in, we were just there on Friday. A group of us also donated thru Royal when the last quake hit. They helped with the relief efforts and gave us internal contacts to help with our donations. We sailed out of Bayonne and managed to get 3 pallets of supplies together. Our thoughts and Prayers.

  5. I understand your sentiment. I make my living by working on the Internet' date=' so I have no intention of purchasing a super-expensive yet slow Internet package. (Not unless the company I work for is paying for it.) As for leaving my smart phone in the safe? No way. I will be using my phone in airplane mode with Bluetooth enabled for the following:

    [list']

    [*]Camera.

[*]Music Player - I will have pre-downloaded some albums from my Plex server for playback during the cruise.

[*]Video Player - Pre-download some shows or movies for viewing while I'm waiting.

[*]Audio book player - Audible anyone?

[*]Maps - I've pre-downloaded maps for the areas that I'm cruising in. This was extremely handy during the Alaska cruise last year when cruising the inside passage.

[*]Know where the ship is parked - Although it was intended to help you save where your car is parked, you can also use the parking mode of Google Maps to save where the ship is parked.

Then, of course, when in port, it's handy to find local places to eat as well as check on bank balances.

The cruise is a time for the wife and I to reconnect. We have no distractions except maybe the love and marriage game.:D We plan most of our excursions with local companies and they tend to be better than the ship excursions at a cheaper rate. The locals are also a good source in finding a good place to eat and have never steered me wrong after 23 cruises. Everyone has there reasons for staying connected but mine is to stay connected with my wife.

  6. Not me. I leave it on for texts and was glad I did. Started carrying cell phone while cruising 17yrs ago. Even back then ATT was local where I was going, San Juan/St Thomas. Have/had older Parents/Grand Parents and young kids/Grand Kids. Know can happen anytime but lost 3 family members while on cruises 2013-2016. For me was just quicker get infor and communicate ..

Sorry about your lost. While on our wedding cruise my aunt passed away while traveling in Iceland. It was a freak accident. My family knows how to contact the ship in an emergency and in that case I would get my phone out of the safe. Everyone has their own reasons but if I'm on vacation its just that. I have a camera so I don't need the phone for pictures. And when I cruised with my kids we had small walkie talkies.

  7. We have sailed out of PC numerous times. We always stay at the Radisson. Free parking and a shuttle to the port.

Ditto!!! We have also stayed at the Radisson and will be on our upcoming cruise in Oct. If you do self-disembarkation, they are there early so you can get on the road asap if you are driving or have an early flight.
