Here are a couple of tips regarding mailing your certificates to NCL:

    1. Be sure to fill out the reverse side of the certificate completely.

Make certain that you put the correct reservation number on the form as well as the travel agency you used (if any).

    2. Make xerox copies of the certificate (both sides) for your records.

In case the unthinkable happens and your certificate is mysteriously lost, having copies will help you prove that you did send one in.

    3. Address your envelope carefully to the address listed on the certificate.

Make certain the address is correct and legible, and also include your return address. Also make certain to write "ATTN: ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT" on the lower left hand side of the envelope to ensure it gets processed by the correct department.

    4. Mail your certificate well before the final payment date.

No use waiting to the last minute in case of problems. Order and mail your certificate as early as you would like to in order to give yourself time to fix any problems if they arise.

    5. Include a copy of your reservation confirmation with your certificate.

This serves to help them match up the reservation with your payment.

    6. (OPTIONAL - but recommended) Mail using some sort of delivery notification to be sure they got your certificate.

If you are worried the envelope might get lost in the mail, use either a priority mail envelope (with delivery confirmation) or registered mail to send it so that you have proof that it was delivered and they received it. In some cases I have sent mine in with a personal check for any remaining balance, so the receipt of the check at my bank was proof that they got the envelope, but in other cases its good to use registered or priority mail.

It takes up to two weeks from NCL's receipt of your certificate to be reflected on your balance, so do not be surprised if it doesn't show up immediately.

What are these certificates you are referring to?

  2. Someone mentioned above they used their points to upgrade family members.  Does this mean they upgraded a cabin that had no one’s name on the Norwegian credit card?  Because I tried that and wasn’t allowed to do it.  I booked 2 OV and wanted to used my WP to upgrade both a balcony.  They would upgrade my cabin since my name is on the credit card not the other OV next with family members.  Anyone else with experience with this so I know for the figure?

  3. I just used my points this week for the first time. I used 60000 points to do a double meta upgrade from inside IF to BA for my 11 day cruise on the NCL Dawn leaving January 2; 2023.  I’m really excited now for my cruise!  Thank you for this forum! The cabin upgrades are the best uses of the points!

  4. Ok I just booked 2 connecting OV rooms - my husband are going to take our grandsons on a cruise ages 10 and 13.  Since they are minors, booked one of them in a room with me and one of them in a room with a husband.  My Norwegian credit card is in my name.  When I tried upgrading both cabins, they said I could upgrade the cabin with my name on it since the card is in my name.  Suggestions?  Help appreciated!

Yes sort of. They will screw with you a little but it will work out.

You did not say what ship.

So what you need to do is book 2 OA cabins nothing less and you will end up with adjoining BB or less. They won't give up the 2 BA cabins side by side. No big deal really.

If you are on a mega ship and there is plenty of availablity then you might get BA cabins.

I have a booking where my IA with a double meta only got me a BD. But it was still a deal.

Be careful as there have been reports of the balcony divider not being opened.

I am looking at that definitely doing this on of the mega ships, maybe the Getaway. If not, then the Breakaway or the Escape.

That is a good approach depending on the ship.  I sail Spirit, Sun, Sky, and Star so the amount of Balconies is much less than the newer mega ships and the difference between inside and outside can be $1500 or more.

I actually did the ocean view on the Encore because inside to ocean view was only a couple of hundred.

Which OV should I book?  I have decided to do this and do two cruises? Obstructed OV, OV, OV with picture window?  Lowest priced or one of the higher ones?  Thanks.

  7. I am new to using the points on this card. Sorry if I am asking questions that have already been asked. I tried reading through the pages but there are so many.  I just got to 60K points.  I am looking at using them for 9 or 10 day Caribbean cruise in January 2024.

Two questions: #1  Since it is so far out- Should I book now and make the double metaupgrade now?

#2 Do I book a regular inside or family inside?  Will a family inside since it costs more help my upgrade?

Thank you all so much for your help.

I also did my first solo cruise on Carnival but it was a 5 day.  I then did my 2nd solo cruise on The Escape last April.  I was in a studio cabin which I was in before on the Epic with a friend.  I like the studio cabins because of the price; however, if the inside or a balcony cabin go down in price and it is something that I can afford then I would definitely go for it.  I found that after a certain number of days the studio cabin started feeling like I was in a large closet.  The cabin is very cute but very cozy!! I'm going on a 15 day TA at the end of April and I knew that there was no way that I could be in that cabin for 15 days.  I splurged and got a balcony and then I was upgraded to a mini suite.  I will be loving this cabin and probably won't want to leave it (lol).

Thank you for verifying what I worried would happen to me!  Closet-cabin!  I just told my travel agent two days to change mine to a balcony. I said I was splurging but I can be on the same deck as everyone else that is traveling now. There are few others going this time that I know but I am the only one not sharing cabin with anyone. I’m fine with that. I will do own thing and probably just meet with some of them for some meals. But I was really stressing about the studio. Now I’m not.

  9. I just returned home yesterday from first solo cruise.  It was only a 4 day cruise on Carnival.  It was delightful.  I would do it again in a heartbeat, however I'm not sure I could go for 7 days, that's just me.  I would go for 5 days.  Maybe I just need to work up to a longer cruise alone.  I'm scheduled on Norwegian Escape in November and there are people I know going but I have a studio cabin.  The price on inside cabins have dropped.  I debated on an inside cabin to begin with and now the debate in my head is even louder.  I know you aren't in your cabin much but I'm a bit claustrophobic and I'm just not sure I can handle the studio cabin. I keep going back and forth about it.

  10. I will be going on my first solo cruise later this month? I have looked at various items to secure my cell phone, passport (while at port), cash etc.  From small boxes with locks to cinch sacks with locks.  What will work best when I take a dip in the ocean or the pool?  For those of you seasoned solo cruisers, what so you suggest?  What has worked best for you?

I see bookings through October, so you can book for fall. I just booked a solo inside for the birthday bash in july. Pricey, but im excited! Hoping a seaview becomes available. I think this will be great for solos as it seems to aim for a very social, fun loving demographic. Look at sept/oct for solos around $1000.

Thank you.  I just looked at the bookings at in Sept and Oct.  Have cruises booked next month and one in November.  Trying to decide whether to book another one already.  I definitely want to try one of these adult only voyages.  Some of the fall ones are not that pricey.

  12. I'm considering it.  10 days is definitely too long for me.  5 to 7 days is fine with me and they have 5 day ones and adults only is definitely enticing.  What does everyone else think?  I just wish there were some in the fall or winter months but I'm still thinking about it.  I'm looking at a solo cabin.

  13. I just booked a studio for the first time yesterday.  Now I am having qualms.  I am a little claustrophobic.  I am thinking I should upgrade to an inside.  The sail away insides are sold out.  So I'm looking at about $400 more give or take.  I know that studios are not offered the option for bidding upgrade later.

Should I just hope that the balconies don't sell out and I can get one of those closer to the sailing for 400 or 500 more?  I often see the balcony prices dropping drastically closer to a sail date.

I welcome suggestions from those that have been in studios and those were in studios that upgraded before the the sail date.  How did you do that?

  14. Carnival - March 21, 2019 - My first solo cruise.  I know it’s only a 4 day cruise so probably not too many solos.  But I’m so anxious to take a solo cruise and I just got back from a cruise with friends in November.  This was all the budget would allow.  Next winter I'm doing a solo cruise on Norwegian.  Saving for it!

  15. It is a short 4 day Carnival cruise in March.  It will be my 3rd cruise overall.  I've done with one with NCL and one with Carnival.  I know that Norwegian caters more to solo cruisers but I just took a cruise with friends in October.  I"m really anxious to go on alone and this is all my budget will allow.  But then I'm saving for aa solo cruise on Norwegian.  I'm 58 years old and I have traveled cross country to visit my daughter and grandson and I have traveled cross country to take trainings, but I have never taken a vacation like this alone.  The last cruise I did have my own cabin and I loved it!  I did a lot of my own things and met up with my friends at dinner.  Dinner is what worries me a little.  I did have any time dining but changed it to late dining hoping to get seated with others and possibly other solo cruisers.  I'm excited.
