  1. I hear you on the passport cost for a family of four. We got ours and our kids even though theirs are only good for 5 years. Weve only been on closed loop cruises (only two so far) out of PC and really didnt need them but it gave me that extra comfort IF something could go wrong. Did I really need it? not really since our birth certificates would've gotten us on the ship. I'm glad we did as we ended up booking a Med cruise when we were on our last DCL cruise this past sept. Now we are set since we already had passports. Plus we figured if we had passports, we would travel more which has actually happened since we arent restricted (unless financially :-P ) unless we go to an area that requires visas.

  2. We are a family of six and since our hotel is right between the Universitat and the Placa de Catalunya aerobus stops, we have decided to take the aerobus. Its so much more cost efficient than a taxi and by watching youtube videos and reading about the aerobus online, seems like an easy thing to navigate. We will be buying our tickets before we leave since they are good up to a year since we will validate them once we get there. One less thing to worry about taking cash out or using our cc's over there.

  3. First cruise in Sept. So, I signed up for one of the Facebook pages for our particular cruise. I just don't get it. It seems like people are going to spend more time worrying about how to decorate their doors, what gifts to give to random strangers, and taking a group photo with those same strangers than they are spending time with their own families or travelmates. I am not a curmudgeon but it seems sort of odd to me. Are people always this absorbed by mixology classes, ornament exchanges, etc. If we don't participate, we will still be OK, right? I want to make memories with my own family and if we meet some folks along the way then great. Any thoughts on this?

Kind of wondering what the point of joining a fb or any board cruise group for a specific cruise would be for then imo. I've done FEs in the past but am not carting a separate bag across seas on our next one (happens to be this september also). I'm also cruising on our next cruise with a family we met by attending one of these meet n greets setup that was done for 1 hr once we all boarded the first day. Its nice to meet others. I wouldnt have know any of the people if I hadnt joined a fb or this board cruise board. As far as will you be ok if you dont participate, umm its your cruise its what you make of it. Honestly not sure why people join cruise groups outside of signing up for private mixologies, FEs, getting to know fellow cruisers ahead of cruise, and getting ideas for DIY ports or possibly sharing a private tour.

  4. DH and I took a 3 night cruise this past February (our first ever) on the Magic and it wasnt a booze cruise. People drank but except for the first night (one lady was definitely intoxicated and talking extremely loud and swaying while waiting in line with her dd for a character meet with a drink in her hand) it was hardly noticeable. Dh and I dont drink but it wasnt like what you "hear" about other cruise lines being party boats (going by hearsay as I've never been on other cruise lines) We loved the 3 night even though it was too short IMO

  5. We found with our family of 4 it was about break even using a private transportation company and DCL We opt for DCL transportation as it is comfortable and well... convenient since we always stay at MCO Hyatt the night before (we come in late the day before also). Plus staying at the Hyatt inside the airport we just leave our luggage in there with our disney tags on them and someone fromDCL comes and gets it (as long as you are on Hyatts list for bag pickup for the cruise).

  6. This is what we experienced. I think the Welcome Center opened at 8:30 (we had been told 9' date=' but it really opened early). We got the character on our booklet to show that we had checked in and which bus we were on, and we were told that they would begin lining up at 9:20 for a 9:30 departure. We were free to hang out in the area (there are very few seats), to go to the food court, or whatever.[/quote']

oh Ours didnt open till 9am (they had it set up but didnt let anyone get into the zig zagged lines till 9am. DH and I walked around and used restrooms etc before getting on the bus. There were plenty of seats still after 30 minutes of us just roaming around. I'm sure when we take the kids on the Fantasy here in a few months it will be packed.

  7. Last time we went they actually started putting people in lines as soon as they started checking in, in your standards zig-zag Disney waiting line. One section holding enough for one bus. So when they started loading they had several buses worth lined up. So if they still do that, no leaving for breakfast.

Was this scenario for one of the bigger ships? When DH and I checked in for the Magic back in end of Feb it was basically we got a piece of paper with a character on it stapled to our travel book and we actually did walk around as the first bus out of MCO for the Magic doesnt fill up as quick as I'm assuming it would for the Fantasy or Dream.

  8. Out of curiosity how much did the cake you ordered cost? I was annoyed on Allure of the seas because I ordered a cake by phone before the cruise and I happened to be on the ship but sometimes

I order things for people and I'm

Not there to see how it plays out. They were supposed to bring it day one and they didn't. I spoke to someone had to give all the info again and then I was sooo sooo frustrated. Someone came

To the table in front of the people I was trying to surprise with the cake and asked me what the cake was supposed

To say etc. I was like really? I whispered it but my mom

Heard and my dad was surprised at least.

I would need to check my cake order form and receipt which is in my file at home. I'll definitely let you know how much. The cake itself was excellent but it definitely wasnt what I ordered (hubby is dang picky with deserts). I honestly didnt mentioned it as it was on our last night of our 3 night cruise for our anniversary. It was a mute point by then in my mind. Honestly the servers singing Happy Anniversary was enough to embarrass me LOL

  9. We stayed at the MCO Hyatt just for convenience over anything. On our first cruise, it was DH and I and we arrived around 2pm but still chose the Hyatt inside the airport. With the kids on our next cruise, we opted to stay there also since we will arrive around 8:40pm and a certain 5 yr old will be tired. The fact we can leave our luggage in the hotel room for DCL to pick up and take to the cruise is worth it. DH and I were able to just walk out of our hotel room without our luggage and walk to the DCL transporation area. Easy and worth the convenience in my mind. Just make sure you put the DCL provided luggage tags on it before you leave your hotel room and hand the provided paper at Hyatt checkin to the CM when checking in to board transportation.

  10. I ordered a special cake for our anniversary cruise back in february and the cake that arrived the night I requested it wasnt even the cake I ordered. I had ordered a specific frosting and cake and it was definitely not it. I was disappointed as I had gotten some standard generic sprinkle cake. Oh well, I wont be ordering any cakes in the future.
