  1. Ship - Encore

    Deck - 15

    Stateroom # - 15866

    Stateroom Category – B9

Starboard or Port Side - starboard side

Quiet Stateroom?  Yes, only noise we heard was early in the morning we could hear setting up noises from upstairs in the spa. It wasn’t bothersome at all.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom?  No

Balcony View -  Excellent balcony. Even on our very very stormy and choppy transatlantic we were able to use the balcony every day. There is a large overhang, so protected from rain and wind from above. It is an angled balcony facing towards the back of the ship, so even in high winds at full speed, when the outer decks were closed and walking was difficult due to waves and wind, there was minimal breeze on the balcony.

    Balcony Size?  Larger angled balcony

    Was wind a problem?  No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem?  Only one day did we notice any soot, it seemed to get trapped under the overhang on our only calm day at sea, with high speeds to make up for lost travel time due to the storms

Any specific problems with this cabin?  The only issues we had were a whistle sound from inside the bathroom that was only apparent when the bathroom door was ajar. Closing the door made it way less audible. second issue was an enormous rattle the 2nd to last night that required staff go into the ceiling outside our cabin at nearly midnight to fix. We got immediate response from guest services and was fixed in a few hours. Not sure what it was, but with the storms, likely something knocked loose.

Any other comments?   Great location. Just a quick jaunt upstairs to the spa right overhead. A lovely walk to the bar/observation lounge for snacks, coffee, drinks. Close to elevators. We were next to the 3 Haven spa suites and not sure if this is the norm, but our steward we shared only with those 3 haven rooms. So while we didn’t have the butler or the haven, our steward was always available and TOP NOTCH, and he only had the 4 staterooms to service.

So mad I didn’t go on this!  Would have loved all sea days. Totally was not on my radar but could have went.  That chandelier, that can’t be the finished product.  Surely there is some back story to that thing.

In person it doesn’t look like puffy bubble wrap it is up close crystals mounted in a free form sort of bendy wrap around lights. In person it looks quite different than photos. Notice I said different not better😁

Would love to jump in. An now comes the biggest vibe at sea.

Glad that you like it. Difficult to take pics in the dark and against lights. But I like to take pictures, one of my hobbies.

The pictures are amazing! I am impressed with how well they are turning out given the dark with lights! Amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that does not sound very appealing.  We tentatively booked the Getaway because of the itinerary leaving from New Orleans.   We booked a forward facing balcony haven cabin 12706 after speaking to a NCL representative.  I'm hoping we did not make a mistake as this is the first time in Haven.  We sailed Celebrity, Holland America and most recently Princess in a Vista Suite.

We were on the Getaway last January in our first Haven Penthouse suite and loved it. Never had any issues finding space in the restaurant, at the bar, in the lounge, by the pool or on the sun deck. (Except the one afternoon when a haven passenger had the entirety of his nonhaven family, 30+ people, in the lounge for about 5 minutes until the concierge politely but not so quietly asked them to leave.)

  5. In 2015, we did walk off, it was our first cruise, had a noon flight in MIA, we got in line around 7 or so, we were off the ship and at MIA Delta Lounge by 8:45am.

Last week, we were in the Haven, were escorted down just past 7:00am, the regular line was already disembarking and we were at FLL by 8am, and in the Delta lounge at FLL by 8:30. Definitely will be able to make that flight!

  6. Excellent day...we booked in October for January and I know it sold out before the date. We then had one of the other ships not port that day, so about half the reservations were cancelled, which was lovely. Totally recommend, and if you don't get an email in a day or two, make sure you email them, otherwise not reserved!

  7. Oh, do tell us how the Chichen Itza trip goes!!!

We just got back to our room after a whirlwind flight/tour to Chichén Itzá...worth every single penny if you are into history/archaeology. We went through the ship excursion....

Met in the theater(even though docking) at 7:45am. There were only 9 of us on the tour. We were the first people off the ship, in a taxi by 8:00 on our way to the airport. At the airport we went through “screening”[emoji23] and boarded the little single prop plane with our guide and pilots...on our way to Chichén Itzá by 8:30am. One of the pilots was training the other, which was actually fascinating to watch. fcba0e0549a18033ace3df34de296998.jpg

We spent about 45 minutes flying, the pilots did a circle above the ship before heading to the mainland, which was cool. We landed at 9:15am and took a van to the site, about 10 minutes.

We got a private guided tour of the ruins well before the crowds arrived. Our tour guide was fantastic...funny and knowledgeable! We were there about 1.5 hours, and it was great. I would have liked about and hour or so

More, but by the time we were done the crowds were getting really thick and it was getting hot! At 11:40am we were back through “security” and on the plane, and back in Cozumel at 1230. Only issue we had is that they used a public shuttle service at the airport here in Cozumel to get us back to the port and we had to wait about 25 minutes for the shuttle to fill before the driver would leave.

All in all, I would totally recommend this! We got back, did some shopping and had lunch, the ship is still quiet and we still have a few hours before sail away!dd33874ba6bef3e26f103c5986a949cf.jpgad8cb2e9b666407dcb698d7b1467b1f0.jpg35550d318198dd4481f859d3123bce15.jpg

  8. At Harvest Caye, did you happen to see the small electric boats used for the excursion? I did find one YouTube video, but trying to get a feel for the speed and experience of those boats. Trying to figure out if it's worth the $49 for each boat for my family.

Dougout has a video of he and Sue doing that activity on their escape cruise if memory serves... they were small, we did see them on our walk, but did not ever see them in use. We walked the island for 10k steps before our morning spa appointment and didn’t even look after 2 when we finally made it back to hang at the beach for a few!

  9. Sailing this itinerary end of February on dawn

Not an excursion kind of person. Found my beach bar in costa Maya and I think maybe in Cozumel

Like to walk if I feel safe. So, are there places (beach bar) walking distance Roatan and Cozumel

In Roatan: There were quite a few beach bars just out side the port area, but recommend watching your wallet...definitely catering to tourists but obviously still a third world location. Looked like quite a few decent bars (and a cigar a shop) we passed, a bojangles too[emoji23] if you are inclined.

I will try to report on Cozumel, but we are doing a flight to Chichén Itzá, so not sure how much we will see this time and last time we went straight from the ship to a catamaran and back to the ship without even leaving the dock, so I have no info at this point.

  10. Having been on Getaway, and sailed the itinerary at least six times let me chime in here.

There are some yoga, spin and zumba classes offered, usually early morning, and at an extra charge. The steam and hot tub are in the spa, and to use them you have to have a spa pass. There are some hot tubs on deck that are usually full of kids.

IMO the best snorkeling and swimming is on the west end of Roatan, at West Bay. Second best choice will be Cozumel. For fishing I would try Costa Maya. I would not plan on doing any of these activities at Harvest Caye.

I would agree to these after a few days.

Next time in Roatan we will definitely do deep sea fishing! We did snorkeling and it was fantastic...through the ship excursion, Jolly Roger, they also had deep sea boat in their marina which caught our attention and we asked the guys about it on our boat...definitely worth it there.

Harvest Caye, we walked in the beach, had a massage (expensive but with every penny) went to the beach for about an hour and napped. Very relaxing but that island was not our scene. Plenty of loungers in the shade even with a sold out sailing!!

  11. I have a few questions I would like answers to.

I would like to know can you still request a bowl of Peanut m&ms?

Do they still hand out fruit skewers around the Haven pool deck?

Are there still treat areas where they have pasteries cookies and candies in various places in the Haven?

I know these are kind of silly questions, but these are various things that I have heard from different posts that are no longer done.

Yes to m&m’s:) we gave Charlie (I love Charlie) a letter saying no candy, please give us GF BLT or cheese plates for snacks...and we have exactly that[emoji39]!

I have not seen fruit skewers on Haven pool deck, by they have a water/tea/ juice/coffee station and treats/pastries set up, and a waiter wanders both decks and will bring melon or berries if you ask, or anything really.

Haven’t been to the gym yet...plans for that tomorrow because Haven rooms rudely have scales in the bathroom[emoji23]

  12. I too have celiac and cruised quite happily and gained weight! On the first day, the restaurant manager on Getaway called our room to arrange a meeting. That first night in the MDR all went smoothly. I did not preorder every meal, although it was an option. But every waiter in every restaurant referred to my special needs and ensured I had exactly what I needed. The gluten free rolls from Moderno were brought to me at every meal regardless of the restaurant. Those little buggers are super addictive lol. As an aside, they sell them at Costco...so sad and happy I discovered them there.

I also have several other life threatening food allergies and not once did I have a reaction. I even ate in the buffet a few times...salads and breakfast items when first unsealed by workers (waited and watched them unseal, but I am up early at 5)

I cruise again on the Getaway in 3 weeks and plan to do a food review including my special diet restrictions as part of my review. Your friend should not have any problems at all, and should be quite satisfied with the options!
