  1. I'd never even heard of door decorating until about 4 yrs. ago on the Glory. The CD at that time announced a decorating contest and our neighbors -3 teenage girls and their mom, did a great job decorating their door. We really wanted to but didn't have anything available. Our neighbors won a ship on a stick and some other goodies and they were so excited. This upcoming cruise on the Pride we will bring a few door decorations. I've been on 5 cruises since that one on the Glory and have never heard or seen anything about a contest again.

I loved all the photos of the decorated doors !

  2. i have sleep apnea. I also have two Labrador Retrievers. Neither of whom are service dogs.

As one person pointed out - you stop breathing multiple times during your sleep which could create a health risk. This is why they have designed the machine - to force your airway to stay open and help you breath.

No way does a dog do that for you. I have no idea how they managed to get that one to fly - unless they had a medical note that was false?

So the dog was supposed to bark everytime they stopped breathing? Maybe the dog would bark when the light went on the machine?

I personally stop 15 times or more in an hour, but I am not severe - even saying that how would they allow a dog to bark that many times?

And yes - doesn't the dog sleep?

Where does the dog do its business on a ship? How is that not a health violation? What about the people with pet allergies?

The list goes on doesn't it?

I hate when people try to abuse the system...grrr:mad:

While looking for some information on the handicap board I came across a trip report by someone with a service dog. It was posted by someone with a real need for the dog. Cruise lines each have their own program, but they basically provide the guest with a box in a designated area outside for the dog to "do their business" and they provide guest with plastic bags for clean ups. I'm pretty sure this is where I saw that ADA no longer considers needing a dog for "emotional support" in compliance with ADA guidelines. I have no need for a service dog, thank goodness, but it was a very interesting thread. ( I wondered about how the dog stays awake to monitor her sleep too.)

  3. I always take ear plugs, spray for the bathroom, a small fan (room never gets cool enough for me),bonine -just in case of rough waters, playing cards, extra glasses and sun glasses, small first aid kit and a roll of duct tape !! The duct tape has come in handy twice so far. Once at last minute to repair a hem and on another cruise to hold a suitcase with a broken zipper together.

  4. One thing I haven't seen much mentioned about here is the afternoon tea. It's held in the MDR on sea days and the time is listed in FunTimes. Most people are dressed casually. Although they are a little different than the ones served at tea in the UK, the little scones are delicious. they offer assorted flavors of tea and everyone got a little pot of hot water. There are small tea sandwiches and tarts, cake, etc. - all delicious. Coffee is also available. I always enjoy this little break from all the activities that are going on daily on a cruise ship. Pride had the best goodies of the 3 Carnival ships I've where I've had tea.

  5. I'm glad you "bumped up" this thread as I probably would have missed it otherwise. I don't have any immediate plans to sail on the Dream (going on Pride for 5th time in Sept.) but I loved every entry and every picture of this report. Your photos are amazing ! Illness limits my activites on my cruises so your very detailed report allowed me to kind of hold a baby tiger, swim with dolphins, climb ancient ruins and see out of the way areas not often seen by tourists. Thank you for the wonderful narrative and pictures that allowed me to almost feel like I was right there with you! I don't think the spa on the Pride has the same features as the one on the Dream, but I will still check it out thanks to you. I think I hated to see your cruise end almost as much as you did !!

  6. I have been on the Pride 4 times and getting ready for #5. I live 1/2 hr from port and due to progressive illness I find it harder and harder to sail from FL or NYC. I now need a wheelchair or scooter and airports are a real hassle. Started looking for trip reports to get myself psyched up even though we don't sail until Sept. and found your wonderful detailed report!! I loved it !! I miss a lot of the night time events because my meds make me sleepy. Loved all your photos but esp. the ones from night time activities. Kind of made me feel almost like I was there and gave me a feel for so many things I read about but never get to see. The funny thing is I was more than half way through your report before I realized I boarded the Pride the day your cruise ended! I did get to see the comedian's early family shows and recognized their names in your report. Also saw show with the juggling comedian and it finally dawned on me to look at date of your cruise. (crew members were telling everyone how lucky we were because the ship was unable to dock in Freeport the previous week ). Later I looked at one of the last pictures you posted of the parking lot back in Baltimore and found the exact spot where my grand dtr. would be parking her car about 2 hours later! LOL! Thank you again for the wonderful report.

  7. Thank you so much for this info. I was so glad to see Kirk Benning will be on our Jan. Pride cruise. I have been on numerous cruises over the years, but couldn't remember any of the CDs until we met Kirk on our 2009 Pride vacation. He just stood out. He is so funny and he seemed to really enjoy his job. We're looking forward to seeing him.

  8. I went on Carnival two years ago and it was the worst food I ever had! The buffet was a dry whole turkey that they carved for you, an inedible chicken dish and spaghetti and meatballs the tasted like they poured the whole jar of basil in it. The food in the MDR wasn't much better. The waiter told us on the first night (lobster night) that this was the best night for food and for the rest of the cruise it went downhill and he was correct. I love Mexican food and when it came time for the midnight buffet it was all Mexican! I was so excited it looked great! I took a few bites and wondered how could they mess up the food so badly? We were on the Sensation on the short cruise and will never do Carnival again. We usually go on the Disney and are satisfied with the food. It is good buy not great. At least I didn't go hungry like I did on Carnival. We are going on the Liberty of the Seas 4-4-10 and I am very curious how the food will be. It is a week long cruise and I figure I will either gain the usual 5 pounds or loose 10! If you have been on Liberty of the Seas lately please let me know if you enjoyed the food. Thanks Dori

I have been on approx. 5 cruises with DCL and thought the food was awful (except desserts ). I also never liked eating in the Triton DR. The aqua overhead lighting always made any beef dish look grayish green and very unappealing. Next tried RCCL and it was better than DCL but still nothing to write home about. Our next cruise was on NCL and we didn't think the food was any better than DCL. Finally after years of saying we'd never vacation on CCL ship we sailed on the Pride and loved the food and the ship. We're not gourmet diners but we know what we like and the food to us, was really good. Love the warm chocolate melting cake, the soups, the beef....mmmm We also liked the variety at the buffet at lunch time. I've read other comments where people said they didn't care for CCL food - different strokes for different folks, but that's our favorite so far.

  9. On my Sept. Glory cruise there was an actual door decorating contest. We had two teens in cabin next to us and they really had their door decorated. The last sea day the Cruise Director James and his assistant toured the ship and picked out several doors that they showed on their early morning closed circuit tv show. From these they chose a winner - our young "neighbors". They got medals and a "ship on a stick". Didn't have this contest on my previous 2 Carnival cruises, but we will be taking tape and construction paper with us this time - just in case.
