This isn't the Oceania thread....this is carnival. They allow one bottle per person 21 and over. I don't think they ID though as much as they make sure the wine is sealed and not full of hard liquor
-
First trip with Carnival but we are going on the Freedom from Saturday to a Saturday then from Sunday to Sunday on the Magic with just one day in between sailings.
If you could compare the two when you return I'd really appreciate it! We usually book freedom out of Galveston but we're looking at the magic for a January cruise before she leaves
-
So we just have to pour out any leftover water when we get back on board? Or do they even care?
-
I usually carry a big bottle of water in a backpack in ports however I was considering taking a Nalgene bottle on our next cruise (basically a plastic bottle with a lid). I know we can bring it on and off the ship but do we have to empty it before and after we embark and disembark in ports? (I know it has to be empty when boarding) i don't want to carry it if I'm gonna have to dump it out at every port
-
So at the cruise terminal should we put it in our carry on luggage or our checked bag do you think? I figured they would want it in carry on to inspect it of some sort
-
They wouldn't let him have a multi tool? We never have problems bringing a buck knife and wine server tool thing
Before I get slammed for carrying a knife I help w family's farm a couple times a week and always have it to cut twine on hay bales and it just feels weird not having it

It depends how easily entertained you are I guess. Personally I think the freedom is fine but Jen is not personally my favorite CD. We had her on triumph and thought the same thing a few years back. We like to spend mornings just relaxing and sitting outside and don't really need something to do (we like the idea of not having ANYTHING to do :))

Just so you know, Galveston has many more ships docking nowadays, so there are 2 terminals now. Building a 2nd port is in the planning stages. I live here and did not realize when I dropped my parents off a couple of weeks ago that it was a different terminal than I was used to and got pretty confused before I got it straight where i was supposed to drop them off. We personally will not cruise without FTTF. Worth every penny!
Do you know if the triumph is always the further terminal? We have always lucked out somehow and never had to be at the farther port

So if we sail and our 17 year old son and his 18 year old friend (not our child) are in their own cabin we have to book with an adult in the room then?? I thought it was fine as long as they booked with an adult over 25. (Cabins are beside each other)

Stateroom: Triumph may be showing her age a bit here. The water temperature in the shower was never consistent, the buttons on my in-room phone didn't work and it was super cold in my room (there is no thermostat). I would also suggest that ladies bring their own hair dryer because the one in the room is attached to the wall in the bathroom and has a hose. II'd never seen anything like it before.
Triumph does have a thermostat type thing it's hard to find though. If you look closely on the air vent there is a handle that turns (ours was broken off on first cruise)
Going on triumph in January again thanks for the reviews and comments

Magic had updated staterooms. Freedom had nice staterooms probably between triumph and breeze in quality

Thanks y'all I really appreciate it. I think I'm gonna go ahead and book it for May. She is there just not 100% but she doesn't wander too often she just gets lost every once and a while. But I would be with her 24/7 and watching her all the time. We would have an interior cabin. Thank you guys so much for feedback

I was curious whether anyone has done this before: taken my grandmother on several cruises before but sadly we are aware she is slowly losing her mental state. She still has several years before we have to put her in a home, but if she were to be diagnosed with dementia she would still be able to cruise right?? We are going on a short cruise out of Galveston and I would be with her 24/7. She doesn't have any special needs but I just wanted to make sure she would be able to go.
Thanks in advance y'all!
Probably should have mentioned, she's only 72 and has full mobility just can't stand extended periods of time.

Fish n chips is never crowded on embarkation day! I think people don't know where it's at but its pretty good. Freedoms buffets are spaced out so there's really not too bad of a crowd for the most part.
-
Love her! She was my first, you always remember your first!
My first as well. Sad that Galveston is losing her. Safes had swipe type things last year if that helps!
-
Your cabin wasn't warm was it? People have been saying how rooms are warm on certain ships. Haven't had problems with freedom before but going on her again in March
-
We were able to book shore excursions, order room service, see accounts, and obviously watch tv and movies on the Triumph and Freedom

Grand Cayman is awesome for shopping and eating. Everything is relatively close together with the exception of the beach (a 5-10 minute cab ride). Montego Bay is pretty "sketchy" if you catch my drift. When we went last March we weren't even docked in the cruise terminal. We were at a shipping terminal and had to take a shuttle to main port. Then pay to enter main port. Then pay to come back to the boat. It was ridiculous. Unless you're docked directly in the port Montego Bay isn't really worth the time for shopping. HOWEVER...Montego has some of the best beaches and shore excursions. Just be careful taking taxis to the downtown shopping area. We had a constant fear of being robbed....

They can go to late comedy shows and into bars (not 100% sure about night clubs) and casino as well. But really nothing else sadly
-
We put ours in airplane mode then if you want to use carnivals new wifi (assuming you're on one of the ships that have it) turn on wifi and use it that way. If not airplane mode works perfectly. Still remember to bring a charger though!

I agree with above. Galveston park n cruise is the only way to go! It's right across the street and reasonably priced. Book online and just park the day of. Family owned as well

Sorry if this topic exists already but I couldn't seem to find it
Our friends are going on a cruise out of Galveston and we were wanting to get them some wine from the fun shops but they've already ordered their two alcoholic items per room limit.
So my question is can get gifts for someone else without going on the cruise?

There's two Marriott brand hotels I think a spring hill and maybe a courtyard? We stayed in the spring hill and it was around $92. We always park at Galveston park n cruise. Right by the terminal just walk across the street

Back in March we booked ahead of time but we weren't charged until AFTER we ate dinner there. They charge your sail and sign card and then you can tip extra when you go. Just so you don't pay if you miss reservation.

Something really similar happened to us on the freedom last March except the water wasn't in the bathroom but in the carpet of the room [emoji37]. They did reimburse us $80 per person however and we didn't even complain at all. We just asked if they could fix it. Carnival always does a good job keeping people happy [emoji1]
