  1. Assuming all other things are essentially equal (price, duration etc) which would you chose: KLM 747 or AF A380 in biz class. This is for flight from LAX to CPH and it looks like I can get either one for approx same price. I have been on both aircraft on the past and find pluses and trivial minuses to both (for ex. prefer Schipol to CDG but like the food and wine better on AF ...) So wondering what others think of the respective products. I appreciate any input.

  2. Just to clarify or perhaps to add to the confusion, my TA called celebrity yesterday and upgraded our 123 bev pkg to premium for 8 of us traveling together and she said my cc was charged $11.75 x 8 per day of our July cruise. Glad I did this now instead of waiting till we board which where the confusion seems to be.

  3. Just to add an additional wrinkle: I had need of a wheelchair while changing planes at JFK due to broken foot on vacation and someone beat me off the plane and took my wheelchair! I waited 15 minutes standing on one foot in the jetway for another one to get there. Had 4 hours to kill so only an inconvenience but I would not chose such a short layover at JFK if I again needed assistance.

  4. I am pleased to report that I followed the advice on this board and checked daily on air France site for 2 seats together in biz class and finally today 2 seats re-appeared for my flight in 12 days. A phone call to AF secured me the seats which now show up assigned to me on both AF and delta websites. Yay! Thanks!

  5. I booked 2 biz class tickets to FCO from LAX. I booked via Delta but the flights are on Air France. I check all my flights every day to avoid just this situation: my seats disappeared. It seems that Delta's computer failed to advise Air France's computer that I was holding these tickets and AF assigned my seats away. The Delta website showed I had my requested seats but when I checked AF (I was looking for unrelated reasons as I have never even thought to confirm that the partner airline had the same seats assigned as Delta) I was "unassigned" ln all 4 of my flights.

There are no longer 2 seats together in the Biz cabin. Delta is no help I "booked a ticket not a particular seat...". OK, I get that, it sucks but I get it. My question: the flight is not for another 30 days, is it possible that in the event someone cancels would their seat show up as available on the website? Should I bother to keep checking to see if better seats open up or just accept my fate, lesson learned and move on?

  6. Were all of you booked on the same ticket? That is - same reservation, same confirmation number, etc.?

Actually no. The one who left was on the same reservation as the sister who now had an empty seat. The other 2 of us were on separate res #s. Did that make a difference? I thought about telling the staff in the Lounge at JFK that one of us would not be getting on the flight to LAX but ultimately decided to just let it go.

  7. We just did this at JFK on flight from LHR to LAX without problems or repercussions. My sister had an unexpected situation in NY that need to be addressed so she left at JFK with her luggage. The other three of us boarded the flight to LAX and no one even asked where she was or if she was coming and her seat remained empty on the flight which left on time. Of course having said all that I quite agree with the signature that says the plural of anecdote is not data.

  8. Could not agree more, Zach re ONT. So much easier than LAX. I fly frequently from there for business on short hops (to OAK, LAS..) Southwest is about the only airline flying from there anymore. Such a shame.

  9. I arrive LAX to CDG on DL859 operated by AF to connect to DL 8562 also operated by AF to FCO. If I am reading the maps right (iffy) we will land at 2F and depart also 2F, meaning my 1.45 layover which sounds tight is actually plenty of time to connect, right? I am sitting in the front of the bus so can disembark quickly. I have had some pretty rough connections here before akin to the Bataan death march to get to next gate and am hoping that this will not be the case.

Always appreciative of the insights provided by the experts on this board.

  10. Just returned last night from RT Delta LAX to LHR via JFK

No issues with food but on the way out I gave my sister who has leukemia my "big kid blanket and pillow" from Biz class (she was in EC+, dont ask ,just worked out that way, she was in Biz for the over the water part). We were delayed over an hour on the tarmac and at least 2 flight attendants saw me walk back and give them to her. After we took off and after she was asleep, the FA came along and woke her up to tell her their contract with Weston required them to take her blanket and pillow. Whaaatt? Sick people in the wrong part of the plane shall receive no comfort? They did not bring the stuff back to me and I was unaware of this until we arrived JFK. Unbelievable how the rules can be stupid and unbending. Of course no one knew how ill she was but she did have a surgical mask on. And no one said anything to me when I gave them to her initially.

  11. I will be flying from Chennai to Mumbai to get my AF flight home to LAX. The latest Jet Airways flight (which I have not yet booked) gets me to Mumbai at 5 pm ( there is one a bit later but it is the last flight of the day so not in my comfort zone) and my AF flight (which IS booked) does not leave until 2:40 am. I am not interested in touring Mumbai as we will have been there the previous week for several days. I was thinking I would just hang out in the AF lounge but now I am wondering if AF will let me check in and check my bags that much ahead of flight time. Anybody know?

If not, anybody know of any airport attached hotels where we could kill the time?

  12. I am not sure what your specific question is. If you want to know what your outbound flight will be like with a 17 month old in your lap, get a narrow chair and put it facing the wall, so you have a few inches of legroom (about what you'll have on your flight) between your knees and the wall.

Then, get your child and sit in the chair, holding him in your lap and facing the wall, for four hours and 40 minutes. That will give you a sense of what it's like.

    LOL!!!!!

  13. Many thanks for the nice comments.

Anyone care to compare Arctic vs. Antarctic. Will we be disappointed on an Arctic cruise after doing the south??

We did Antarctica first with Regent and then just last year did the Arctic on SS Explorer. Totally different trips. The landscapes are much more dramatic in Antarctica. The Arctic was much less ice and snow and more Tundra. There was more wildlife to see in Antarctica too. But in the Arctic you will see polar bears! And meet the Inuit people who are very warm and friendly. You will not be disappointed so long as you are not expecting the same/similar trip. I loved both but truth be told, I would love to go back to Antarctica but feel like "been there/done" that for the Arctic.
