  1. They just absolved themselves ...after reading that I am 100% sure of canceling cruise in 2 weeks.  Scary situation with the quarantine possibilities.

State department makes it official.  Much of the focus is on potential repatriation problems but this is going to really clobber demand.  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/travelers-with-special-considerations/cruise-ship-passengers.html?fbclid=IwAR23mRlu4-382HLuSM8i0KWQBSaZ4heDniggmxR3kBR6e2EgWiKr6B0EseM

  2. RC has followed suit...here's hoping NCL does.

The "Cruise With Confidence" policy allows guests on Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara and Silversea to cancel up to 48 hours before a sailing. Guests will receive a full credit for their fare, usable on any future sailing of the guest's choice in 2020 or 2021. The policy applies to both new and existing cruise bookings.

Supposed to sail next week and just got an email from RCI with the following:

And, if for any reason, you happen to have a fever before your cruise, we kindly ask you to not come to the port. Please contact us or your Travel Advisor immediately and we will happily provide you with a credit for future travel.

Being quarantined was my biggest concern. But the chance of being turned away from my only port of choice (Bermuda 3 days) is also enough for me to rethink sinking however many $K's into a trip. To be turned away and have a 7 day cruise to nowhere, well, that's not for me either. Unless this thing is red bagged in the next 2 months, I'll be exercising my CFAR. To each his own. My loss is the consumers gain.

I am also from NY, how did you purchase CFAR? I was told by insurance companies NY doesn't allow, and also found this...

"Additionally, there’s bad news for residents of New York: You can’t buy CFAR travel insurance. The New York State Department of Financial Services, which regulates the insurance industry, does not deem CFAR to be actual insurance because it “allows the purchaser to control the event that would lead to payment.” Thus, the state does not permit the sale of that benefit. "

  5. Agree...I was excited to read this news on the website mentioned but because my cruise is 29 days out, it doesn't apply.  Doesn't make sense to me...I think it should be any cruise within the next several months.  Ugh.  Very nervous to have any chance whatsoever of being quarantined on a ship.  Will have to wait until the last possible second whether to cancel and lose a lot of money.

  6. My fear also is not being able to get back home...all it takes is one person with the virus, and everyone will be quarantined. And, for how long??  My cruise leaves the end of March and I am hoping for the best, but if things are bad I really hope NCL will offer cruise credit. The whole thing gives me a pit in my stomach.  We haven't even seen it hit the places in the states we cruise out of for caribbean cruises, imagine if it does....

Is MSC offering cancellations for any cruise or just affected itineraries?

  7. I agree with littlelulu01.  The only thing that does have me concerned is that I read an article where it's "possible" that the virus can be transmitted through the ship's A/C system.  Apparently the ventilation they use doesn't filter out that type of virus (due to smaller particles?) However, it does filter it out on an airplane due to their ventilation system.  I'm no scientist so I don't know if this has merit or not.  I am scheduled for the Breakaway 3/28, and since I am past the point of a refund, I'm waiting till the last possible day to cancel or not.  Also, when I tried to purchase "Cancel for Any Reason" (CFAR) insurance, I couldn't because apparently NY state doesn't allow it.  Great!

  8. Dr. Cocktail, may I get your opinion on this...

We are booked on Seaside in a few months...we have never been on a ship with so many passengers, so I am a little nervous about such crowds! We are in the YC however would like to of course go throughout the entire ship. Did it seem like mayhem with so many people? Our last cruise on the Sun, I felt like we couldn't even get out of our own way so maybe it's all relative and the Seaside is plenty big for so many passengers...your thoughts? Thank you!
