  1. Just for the record, we had an aft ( all the way aft) balcony on the Adventure Of The Seas and Navigator Of The Seas, and those balconies are around 110-120 SF..very deep..there is a little metal that hangs down a bit & some don't like that , but views are amazing..There are TWO lounge chairs back there, right up your alley!

You should always TRY at least once an aft balcony...and lol about the balcony on my upcoming AOS!! I will write my report when I get back, so look for it!

Oh I'm going to be looking for that review mister so don't let us down! Thanks for all the great help. I need to become a cruise agent because it has been nothing less than a blast planning this vacation although I have planned all of those in the past (except the very first one) and at one point did work for a travel agency.

What is the trick to securing an aft balcony because they seem harder to acquire than a hump cabin. The aft die-hards do not mess around when it comes to booking those cabins so what's the secret?

  2. Yes, I am getting excited now..only 4 weeks from this Saturday...Personally, I still like your 7600 cabin a bit more...sticks out a bit more so you will have TOTALLY unobstructed views to the aft & forward, whereas 7592 will be fine looking forward, but will have cabins 7594, 96, 98 & 600 kinda blocking the view just a bit...any reason you might wanna change? Also don't forget to ask how much for a JS just in case it has gone down...

Thanks for the input! I was reading somewhere on here the other night about how the best balconies were the forward or aft hump cabins which got me to thinking aka I'm just doing too much! LOL

The JS have come down (according to the website) but they aren't down enough for my tastes. I do see where they have a JS hump on deck 11 that looks interesting but, again, not worth the extra cost at this point especially since I initially did book the cabin, deck and category I wanted. So appreciate the advice. Have a wonderful and safe trip. Got balcony? Hahaha:D

  3. Hey Big Al! I see you're getting ready for your next adventure on AOS! Yay for you.

As for me...I have a balcony question and you are my go to guy for the answer.

What is you advice if I was thinking about moving from my center hump cabin (7600) to the forward angled hump cabin (7592) which is still available after final payment due date?

Still can't afford to snag a JS yet but I'm still keeping an eye out. Thanks. :)

  4. Aaah yes...the Love Boat. Still know the words to the theme song.😄

Definitely sparked my cruise addiction which later became a full blown flame ignited by my boss at the time. He told stories about he and his fraternity brothers taking annual cruises for their reunions. He suggested I take one too. Isaid I couldn't afford it but he said I could and sent me to his travel agent. My first cruise was booked for me and my bestfriend and we had the time of our lives in the Caribbean.

Two years later, after my dad passed, I took my mom on her first cruise to help with the grieving process and because she had never been on a real vacation. It to this day remains the best vacation of my life. Mom had so much joy from the experience she booked another cruise to take my sister as well.

Due to circumstances I haven't cruised in 10 years. But I wanted to celebrate my 50th by doing something special so I booked on Allure for January 2016 for myself and the love of my life. He has never cruised or had a real vacation and he's beyond excited. I also have us booked for another in April 2017. A wonderful way to travel.

  5. Some people may snub their noses at Carnival but they leave RCCL in the dust when it comes to customer service.

Have a cruise booked with them in 2017...needed to change to a more desirable cabin. A lovely woman came on the line...attentive, caring and competent. Even better? Not a second wasted trying to backend hustle me into a drink package or excursion. Carnival showed me they want and appreciate my business. I have only truly experienced that level of service with RCCL while planning my first cruise with the line once.

I hope the doubled cost on RCCL will be worth it.

  6. Wow- $3500!!! INSANE...wait until your final payment day & inquire then, if still too $$, try 1-2 weeks before sailing and see 1) if any JS's are left ( you can do this W/O calling RCI, just go on their website & make pretend you are looking for a JS now..) and 2) what is the price now XX days before sailing..BTW,I don't like the cabins on deck 6 because they are RIGHT above the Royal Promenade, and as a light sleeper, I can hear the noise & music from the parades & 70's Retro night there, so if you/SO are also a light sleeper, avoid deck 6 cabins..hope this helps a bit..

    Big Al

Yes - insanity at a whole new level. LOL

I only found one JS hump cabin that I like which is on Deck 8 right behind 150(thanks for the heads up about Deck 6). The remaining JS come with connecting rooms which I'm not interested in. Also tried the mock booking and found that they have approximately 13 JS left total. Hopefully I will get lucky and the prices will come down after final payment which is October 20th. If not, I will still be thrilled with my Deck 7 Hump:D There is no such thing as a bad balcony!

Thank you again for all your great advice.

  7. Unfortunately, what you read seems true...some have been able to get their cabin steward to bring a lounge chair to their cabin, and some stewards will say they will get in trouble if they do...good thing is , if you have a JS or above, you will have a lounger on your balcony, no need to get one..FYI- just before you sail, call RCI & see if there still are JS's available & see if you can get either a free upgrade ( rare) OR pay a little extra $$ for one- I have done that & it worked out great..sometimes for as little as $80 PP for the WHOLE cruise, you can get one, but FIRST, call RCI & see what's available & how much...when are you sailing?

    Big Al

Thank you for the follow-up. We're leaving January 3rd. The final payment date will be here in about 2 weeks. Should I check on JS upgrade for cost then or wait closer to sail date?

  8. Hi Big Al! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Question...when you've had a hump cabin have you been able to secure a lounge chair if not JS or above? We are going on Allure and I've read some yay's and nay's both ways so just wondered what your experience in this regard was like. Won't change my enjoyment of my hump cabin (its a balcony so will be great no matter what) if not feasible. Thanks. :)

  9. This review was one of the highlights of my week. You have a true and loving heart. No wonder your cruise blessings were so plentiful and deserved. Especially loved the way you spoke of your husband and kids. I nearly cried reading about your daughter's happy tears. Just wow!

I too am taking a cruise with the love of my life and it will be the first time he has ever cruised or even had a real vacation. Our cruise is my love letter to him and I can't wait for him to fall in love with cruising as did I. Hope you and your family have another amazing adventure and be sure to comeback and share!

  10. I loooved your review!

You are the type of person I would have so much fun with on a cruise and would want to be friends with on land. You and your husband make the cutest couple and seem like nice down-to-earth folks who truly appreciate the blessing of being able to cruise to such beautiful carefree destinations taking nothing for granted. Thanks so much for all of the tips and scores! LOL Barbie's got nothing on you and I mean that in the best possible way. :)

  11. There are no open flames on this Hibachi ... so no onion volcanoes.

You do get 1 or, for an additional fee, 2 proteins (choose Beef, Chicken, Lobster, Shrimp - or a combination). There are 3 sauces you can choose. And you get either a Soup or Ginger Salad, Rice or Noodles, Grilled Veggies, and a Dessert such as Ice Cream or a Small Pastry.

Additional fees if you add Sushi, Spring Rolls, Etc. You can also purchase Saki or Asian Beer or Special Cocktails.

Sounds delicious! Is the habachi open for lunch as well or is it exclusive only to the dinner reservations?

    Thanks in advance:)

  12. We tried an OV once...NEVER AGAIN! The least is a balcony...with a mini-suite/JS being our preference. I HATE electric lights in the daytime...HATE THEM...HATE! I need natural light...maybe I'm a reverse vampire...I don't know, but being in a totally dark room is not my idea of a vacation!

A JS with balcony will be my next bucket list goal!

  13. What bothers me are people who have never even tried a balcony..my opinion is if you haven't tried it, don't knock it...don't say Ruth Chris is the best steakhouse if that's the only one you've tried..you also must try the Capital Grill & Morton's to compare..your opinion is INVALID if you can't make a comparison based on experience..same with hotels..if you say you think Holiday Inns are the best, then admit to NEVER trying another chain, your opinions are not a valid one as far as comparisons go..it's fine to say you LIKE Ruth Chris or the HI hotels, but don't claim they are the best if you've never experienced the competition...JMHO......I don't begrudge, just prefer...

    Big Al

I prefer too. The CC Etiquette Police have their moments which I take for what they are when it concerns someone else's choice

/preferrence...that's their opinion. Everyone cruises on the same ship but with an individual personalized agenda. I would never tell anyone how to enjoy their cruising experience or knock their choices for their preferred needs to enhance the enjoyment.
