Depending on the weather they should be, standing on them in England you can see the French coast on a clear day.

It is a very short tube journey (ignore rail options), but with that amount of luggage I'd take a cab, even though there are lifts serving the Jubilee Line at both stations, I believe.
I would agree, although it is only a short distance the number of cases means a taxi would be better.
London Bridge station has been undergoing a rebuilding that means some facilities such as lifts have been out of service at various times.

Not when all that happens is they have to spend extra time in the terminal waiting to get on the ship, compared with the danger of getting stuck in traffic in the M3 or in Southampton and missing the cruise and wasting thousands of pounds.

I believe Constable Country is in southern East Anglia? We did see a bit of that area from Harwich, when we took an tour to Cambridge. It is a nice area.
Yes you are correct Suffolk is one of the counties of East Anglia that borders Cambridgeshire.
If you did go there the Audely End House and Framlingham Castle are worth visiting.

So what is Caribbean level please? Thank you.
It is one of the tiers of the loyalty scheme that P&O has, it is unlikely that you will have it unless you cruise with P&O quite a lot.

Not every filling station, some have taken them off sale as the use of sat-navs and phone mapping apps has meant low sales.

One problem might be is that at that time of year in Scotland true darkness at night is only a short window, between 12.40 and 01.40 approximately.
The rest of the night is at light levels that are considered various stages of Twilight, which might affect the viewing conditions of the Northern Lights should they occur.

Do not forget the Natural History Museum, which is also in South Kensington next to the Science Museum.
-
It's much easier for me to know about those two museum than you, it's no problem.
I agree unless there is a pressing desire for a visit to Dover there are others places to visit on the journey to Newcastle, perhaps the much more touristy Warwick a castle?
Once you arrive in Newcastle then you can easily travel along the line of Hadrians wall visiting Housesteads, Vindalanda and other Roman sites along its length and maybe Carlsile with its castle and cathedral.

Why are the rules in the US different to the UK.This has been the same forever ,even with the same company. We had a similar problem with PO in the past and no matter what we did they would not bend there rules with regard to amending a booking.
I would imagine it would is because the consumer protection laws in the 2 countries are different, things which are allowable in one country are not in another.

Just one small point, to correct something on John Bulls last post the Shuttleworth aircraft collection is on display at Old Warden Areodrome in the middle of the Bedfordshire countryside. It has many vintage aircraft, including the worlds oldest still flying aircraft, a pre WWI Bleirot.
The Imperial War Museums Aircraft and large portions of its Tank Collection are held at Duxford, which also has a hall of US aircraft as during WWII it was a Bomber base for the Eighth Airforce. There are also civilian airliners such as Concorde there.

It might also be useful to look at English Heritages page on access to Dover Castle.
To quote from it
"
Pathways: Surface and GradientsExtensive grounds mainly accessible on tarmac paths, however, there are some very steep slopes. Gravel, tarmac and cobble some steep and sloped."

I do not think Taxis are allowed past the carparking areas if I recall my visits correctly.

Heathrow is shorter, the route to Southhampton is about 60 miles long, Gatwick is about 90 Miles if you travel using the Motorways.
-
My (at the time) 70year old Mum managed it just fine a couple of years ago. She has mild arthritis in her knees. It's a long slope but not too steep.

Old Sarum hill fort on the outskirts of Salisbury is an interesting place, it was occupied when Stonehenge was built, and later had Roman occupation, and in the Middle Ages a Castle and Cathedral built atop it.
There are other sites like Avebury stone circle, where you an get close enough to touch the ancient stones themselves, as 4774Papa suggests.

If I may change the subject a little - how would I get a private car/minivan from the port to a hotel in a South Kensington - I realize I could take the bus to Heathrow and transfer to a Earls Court stop but looking at alternative options - thanx
If you do use a bus instead of Heathrow take the bus to Victoria Coach Station in the centre of London, it's then a short Underground trip to the Earls Court or South Kensington area.

Reservations would be best, Edinburgh is heaving with people at that time of year, the Tatoo, the Festival and the Fringe all occur at the same time.

It's a legal requirement in the UK (and I believe Europe) for restaurants to have readily available a list of the main allergens that are present in individual dishes on the menu, so this should be possible on a ship. I do know however, that different countries have slightly different allergen lists so this might be the difficulty where supplies are taken in in different countries.
Believe it or not, certain allergies prevalent in one country almost don't exist in others, so there are often significant differences in what are viewed as allergens throughout the world.
I wonder if the fact that the P&O ships are Bermuda flagged might that UK regulation does not apply?

I don't see what the hassle is in taking a bottle of gin or box of wine on board. We also like a G&T on the balcony, pre dinner. It's no bother at all taking our own on board
I make the point I made on another thread on the same subject. The prices on board ship are certainly not comparable with my local pub prices, I pay £2.30 for a pint of bitter in my local, on the ship I pay around £4.00. I can only assume it will be the same across the range of drinks on the ship
If you like a drink on your own balcony, then the saving in taking your own on board is considerable
I think it would be more accurate to say that the ships prices are similar to London and the Souths pub prices.

We are planning a four week car tour of Wales and England prior to take the Celebrity Eclipse back home. This will be in October 2017.
The hotel prices on this thread are just too much. We would sleep in the car before we would spend 600 euro on a hotel room.
On our last trip to England, we found a nice Sheraton near Heathrow for three days at about 80 GBP per night. Thst is more what we wiill be looking for in 2017.
The £600 is not for a hotel room as such, but for the whole staying in a castle experience. I do not think it is value for money, but some might want to pay it.

There are several different cruse terminals in Southhampton, spread over a short distance. Most of them are quite close to the West Quay retail park that does have a Boots store in it.

We have just returned from Britanian and had no problems with electrics including a cpap.
Thanks for letting me know, that's one less thing to pack.
-
This could be inconvenient for me, if it is true I am due to cruise on the Britannia in April with a CPAP device. I will have to look to bringing along a surge protector to help prevent any damage.
It would also help protect any other devices that need to be charged or plugged in.

It's not a problem, I live close to the area, about 15 miles away so know it reasonably well if you have any specific interests I might know something that is good for that.
It does depend on your method of transport with a hire car there are plenty of places to go, for instance Whipsnade Zoo, the UKs largest one is a little further North.
Hatfield House was once home to Queen Elizabeth the First as a young princess and is a nice example of a Tudor stately home.
Going back into North London the RAF museum at Hendon has a large collection of aircraft.
If you do use the tube to get Watford, then a Taxi or bus to the Harry Potter Tour, you can quite easily get a bus from Watford later to St Albans, the local Arriva 321 buses run quite frequently .
There is also a train line from Watford Junction Station to St Albans Abbey.

Another Premier Inn location worth looking at is close to Bankside, near Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern, Bourgh Market, The Shard and London Bridge Station. You can walk a short distance across the Millenium Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral from outside Tate Modern as well.
It is a possible alternative if the County Hall is booked up.
I would also suggest posting the same query in the Ports of Call Britain area of the forum, you wil get some excellent help there.
