  1. When you volunteer to organize a tour you should consider, and make clear to all participants, the details. You also should collect some down payments from all participants - to protect yourself from being left holding the bag, and to protect all participants from being put at risk by those who change their mind at the last minute. Sure, it is bad luck for someone who gets sick - but their bad luck should not wind up costing others.

navybankerteacher, you’re right & that’s one of the reasons I covered the cost, because I thought I’m the one who volunteered to organize the tour & I didn’t put any stipulations out stating that anyone committed unless that person or someone in the group finds a replacement...I’m thinking of doing that this time, but I wanted to get some advice first. I could not find this question on the boards, so I’m sure it is a rare occurrence.

  2. I...We like to participate in independent group tours where the price is per person, regardless of how many sign up. And often on the RSVP ahead, pay when you arrive, they are flexible about cancellations. But I’m the scenario you proposed, everyone who RSVPed should pay their share, whether or not they take the tour.

sanger727, that may be a question I start posing to the tour companies too, a per person vs flat rate or even an option where we can prepay individually for the tour so we can get receipts if we need to file a claim

  3. The folks who can't make the tour should pay their share and fall back their cruise insurance to reimburse them...

bigwally, I didn’t think about the cruise insurance piece. I’ll look into it to find out what is needed to be able to help anyone with filing the claim. Thank you! On our last cruise, I just paid for the member who was quarantined as I didn’t even think about that someone not being able to come was a possibility, so I’m wanting to see what others have done & yours is a good solution

  4. I am looking for some guidance as I have only organized one shore excursion & am likely to organize one or two on our upcoming cruise. How do you seasoned CC shore excursions organizers prepare for when an excursion is RSVP & pay the day of. You have booked the coach & driver at a set price & based on the number of CC members confirmed everyone knows it will be “X” per person (the fuller the coach, the lower to per person price”. Unfortunately, one or two CC members get quarantined to their room & can’t make the tour. What do you do?

  5. Dunrobin castle in Scotland had an excellent Falconry show

Caripoo, I looked them up & unfortunately it would be a 4 1/4 hour drive one way from The Greenock port [emoji36]. But, good to know as we have been entertaining the thought of visiting a city in Scotland pre-cruise, so that may be a good excuse to visit Golspie & the Dubrovnik castle. [emoji848]thank you for the info

  6. Hi, if you are in Dublin for a few days i can recommend Trevor of dublinfalconry.com (we got our puppy from him - he's a real animal whisperer!) ...he operates out of Lutterelstown Castle, a gorgeous venue about 30 mins from Dublin city centre.

Thank you Choppersontour! We are planning to be in Dublin for a few days pre-cruise & I looked them up, I’d rather be able to spend the day vs a few hours & it looks like beautiful grounds too. Thank you for the tip

  7. This sounds great. Anyone know if we could get a tact there and then back to the port at Greenock? What would be the cost of transportation?

Terelsbell, when I requested a quote from a cab company, I was told 77 GBP for round trip (approx 1 1/2 round trip). I’m not sure how accurate that is, so if there is anyone out there who can share that would be greatly appreciated.

  8. Strathblane country falconry Glasgow. Excellent reviews on trip advisor. Jean.

Jean thank you so much, we will be docking in Glasgow & I checked out Strathblane Falconry & saw it was a 45 min drive from port. I went to their website & saw 2.5 hr/half day encounter as the full day will probably be cutting it way to close. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, this is on DH’s wish list.

  9. We are planning a cruise and would like to visit a Falconry either in Ireland or Scotland. Any suggestions as we are planning on being in Dublin for a couple of days before the cruise and I found a Falconry near Glasgow Scotland (but we will only be in port for 8 hours) don't know if that may be a realistic option. I wouldn't even know what to look for when reviewing the websites for each and direction would be greatly appreciated.

  10. You will enjoy Glacier wind charters, Teresa & Captain Shawn were wonderful with us when we booked and toured with them in 2015. It was so nice meeting Teresa after communicating with her via phone & Captain Shawn was very informative in our search for whales. They added a very personal touch that two years later seeing their name brought a smile and wonderful memories flooding back! Enjoy!

  11. Terry, I also wanted to let you know how much I appreciate and enjoyed reading your review and viewing those wonderful photos. Along with all the contributing other CC members, a big thank you! This will be our first trip "over seas" from the states and we decided on Australia/New Zealand and the evening Sydney Harbour Bridge walk you mentioned (and the photo) sold me on the idea of doing the same. Thank you so much and safe travels!

  12. You are right, I just like to get an idea of what's going on primarily on sea days & when special offers such as laundry specials fall during the cruise. We've also never been on any cruise longer than an 8 nighter. I really appreciate you responding Beanb41, you helped to bring me back to what my DH tells me "you don't have to control & plan everything, we're on VACATION". [emoji38]
