  1. We've sailed on the silouhette three times, most recently the November transatlantic. The upcoming drydock in January will repair whatever issue there is with the ship. the problem only seems to affect the speed.

The ship is as sparkling and beautiful as it was when it started sailing in 2011. The staff is one of the friendliest at sea. We found the food and service to be excellent.

No one should let this minor issue affect booking this wonderful ship.

I second these comments. We sailed on the Silhouette in September (11-night Med cruise) and there were no delays in getting to our ports of call. The ship is in dry dock in January so the problem affecting the speed will be fixed. The ship is beautiful. The art around the ship is amazing, the staff are very friendly.

  2. Looked up Visas for this trip & Us Gov, & Turkish web site both say no Visa required for cruise ship passengers visiting less than 72 hours.

Anyone have any other experiences? I also assume you need to go ashore with ship sponsored excursions. Again, anyone have experience here?

No visa required for Canadian and U.S. citizens. Citizens from other countries should check first. We were in Ephesus, Turkey in September and did the ship's excursion of Ancient Ephesus - great tour, great tour guide. As others have posted you can do private tours. Check the Europe board for recommendations. I hope you enjoy our cruise as much as we did.

  3. We went to Med cruise in September. Before the cruise we decided which ports are for leisure and which are for sighseeing (hey, it's still vacation!!!):).

We'd had great beach days in Santorini, Mykonos and Crete and great sightseeing in Athens, Napoli and Venice. Since we were in Kusadasi before we took an easy tour to Sirince village for half day with great lunch and vine tasting...

Highly recommend Med cruising, we agree with everybody it's so different expereince vs Caribbean cruise.

BTW - see you next week on Equinox, we are soooo ready!!!.

Hi Mike and Tanya. Enjoy your cruise you lucky devils!:D

  4. Too hectic?.....yes, it is a busy itinerary but I would not say it is too

hectic. I went to the Med in May 2012 and it was the best cruise I have

ever taken:D........it blew all my other cruises out of the water;)

I have been wanting to go back again but haven't been able to........

The history and sights are simply fantastic.:) I remember when visiting

places it was all a BIG WOW:D to me.

I would definitely recommend it.:)in, my opinion, there is "no bad".....

well, maybe the flying part, but that is just part of the trip.

I send Lois R's post. I went on my first Med cruise this September and it was by far the best cruise I've been on to date. We're looking at 2016 for our next Med cruise. Yes it was port intensive but you determine how much time you want to spend in the port. Some ports we were on all day excursions; at other ports we got off the ship after everyone got off for their excursions and spent a couple of leisurely hours in the town and spent the rest of the day on the ship.

  5. ..having that rude person go up to the counter who was never on line.

I was on Reflection last week and yes, I was next up and all of a sudden

I see this person walking up to the counter (she was not on line).......

I said "excuse me, the line starts back there"--------> and I pointed

to the back the line......she said, "oh this will only take a minute, I just

have to get them to give me a new S&S card".......

I said, no....we have all been waiting on line......well, the gal at

Guest Relations helped her.............I then had my turn and politely

told the young lady she should not have helped that person. The

line was long as it was the day before we disembarked and alot of

folks were needing different things. Guest Relations could see the line.

I did have a wonderful cruise and met some lovely people over the

week but this lady?......she is in the group who have no manners and

    "it is all about her"..........

I feel your pain! These people are everywhere. They're the ENTITLED people walking our planet. The fact that others had been patiently waiting in line to be helped with their questions/concerns was of no interest to her in her self absorbed world. I'm glad you had a great cruise.

  6. Clearly you do not have a fear of heights.

I will not go to the back, I am sure you do not want me parting with my previous meal suddenly - but I do stand to the side Sometimes there are reasons for behaviour so tolerance is the best virtue to pack when cruising

I'm with you. My fear of heights is getting worse as I get older. :( I will not step on that glass at the back of the elevator, or the glass floor at the top of the CN Tower. What I do is explain to those getting on and everyone so far has been understanding.

As for the original post of letting people out of the elevator first - it's only common sense to let the people out first. Another thing lacking in society today along with manners.

  7. As I posted in my review of our Med cruise on the Silhouette in September 2014 I found most of the food in the MDR boring and lacking in flavour. For example, the anytime chicken dish, bland bland bland. Also two meat dishes - steak and prime rib - under or over cooked (I requested medium both times) - not sure who to blame for that as I don't know how the waiters pick up the meals from the kitchen. Desserts - better in the Cafe al Bacio on deck 5 or at high tea. A message for Sloop-JohnB - stay away from my bread sticks.:D The bread basket is always filled with different breads.

  8. Can you ask the steward to remove them so they aren't in your way?

(That's what we do with the stuff in the frig)

When we saw these snacks had arrived in our stateroom in September we asked the steward to removed them. At first he put them in the mini bar but we removed them and again asked him to remove them and he did.

  9. These ARE per person rates...correct? We paid more than that per person for a Cat 1A to the Med.

You are correct the prices I stated are per person. I should also state that the prices I stated were for an inside stateroom on deck 8 of the Silhouette.

question: For those that have booked, what are the savings or is it the "123 Go" promotion that we will be offered? Thanks.

  10. I have a booking for a balcony cabin on the Aug 29, 2016 Azamara Journey, 11 Night Greek Isles & Adriatic Voyage cruise, $7300 for two (taxes included). The 11 night, Celebrity Reflection, August 29, Greece, Turkey & Italy Cruise comes to $6570 for a C2 cabin on the 123go special. Celebrity is pricing these almost as high as their Azamara brand.

By the way, the Azamara Journey cruise goes to Kotor, has really long port stops - and you can use your Captain's Club benefits on Azamara. Check it out.

Thanks I will check that out today!

  11. I just compared the price we paid for our Sept 2014 Med cruise to a similar Med cruise on the same ship in Sept 2016 in the same stateroom. For 3 people we paid $1621 in 2014; I priced the 2016 cruise at $1603 (not incl taxes and fees). However, if we were 2 people in 2014 the price was $1878; 2016 would be $2,009 (not incl. taxes and fees). We'll be checking other lines such as Oceania. I've stated before (I think :D) that I want to go to Kotor, Montenegro - such a beautiful place.

  12. It would be so much easier if we could look at the info here or by email to CC members instead of sitting on hold with Captains Club and then having them repeat all the itineraries we may be interested in. I wonder who thinks up such nonsense:confused:

I totally agree. How are people expected to know what they wish to book if they don't have all the info prior to the date? I looked at one of the sites posted here and was able to find a couple of cruises in 2016 that I am interested in but....I will not spend my day on hold waiting for a rep from Captain's Club to answer my call. I will get my TA to do that. :D Also what savings are to be had - an actual savings on the cruise fare or onboard credits? That information up front would be helpful.

  13. Thankyou. Have my cruise picked out already.

Italy and Dalmation coast, 19 May 2016. Going to be a long wait :)

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

I also like this itinerary. With whatever savings/credits that Celebrity may offer to us, plus another post thank you credit we received after our Sept. 2014 cruise, I cannot wait until Nov. 11th. :D

  14. The one I saw at the hotel was no bigger than a trash bin. Actually to be more accurate it was about the size of one those little silver ones I see out by the elevators. No worries I will figure out a way to dry it...just thought I would ask since I saw one for the first time a couple months ago and thought hmmm wonder if that is on the ship and since I don't do laundry on board and don't use the gym/locker area wasn't sure if there was one and knew that one of the lovely folks on here would know the answer. I mean there are worse things to come back from a cruise with besides a wet suit...lol

A spinner would be great but alas there is none on board as others have stated. What I do is what another poster has mentioned - wrap the bathing suit in a towel but to get the excess water out I stomp on it - then, with the hanger I bring from home, hang it in the bathroom or if I'm in a balcony, hang it on the back of the chair.

  15. November 11th is for the scheduled release of Europe 2016 itineraries to Captain's Club members only for booking, which may or may not include a "savings" in the form of an onboard credit. Likely Celebrity's website will not post the detailed itineraries with ports though until released several days later to all and you will need to call Captain's Club during that short window to learn about the itinerary details and to book. I'm assuming there will be an early booking onboard credit though, based on past deployments.

We talked to Captain's Club yesterday about another matter, and I asked the rep if Celebrity is still on target for the mid-November release of Europe itineraries for Captain's Club members and she responded yes. I also asked if Transatlantic 2016 itineraries would be published at or around the same mid-November timeframe and again she responded yes but possibly only Transatlantic cruises for Spring 2016 (maybe not Fall 2016). She also said Captain's Club members would have a small window to book (pdf indicated 3 days) before the itineraries are released to all and that we would need to call Captain's Club to book during that small window because the specific detailed itineraries (with which ports) likely will not be posted until released to all. I didn't ask about the savings/onboard credit, but I am assuming there will be an onboard credit for early Captain's Club bookings too which, based on the past, should go well past the small window. Last spring I booked a May 2015 cruise while on an April 2014 TA, and I still got the Early Booking Captain's Club credit even though the itineraries were first released in March. In March this year, this was called a "World Tour Onboard Credit" which was an a credit to spend onboard if you booked within a certain timeframe.

Thanks for the info. Now to wait and see what's being offered. We did the Eastern Med in September; looking for a Western Med cruise for 2016.

  16. After reading this thread I'm wondering if the problem is not with an outside organization wrongfully declaring the OP dead, or having addresses changed on the cruise personalizer, or other people's names appearing on mailings. I'm thinking this is sounding more like an internal problem at Princess - is someone there changing the information? I will be looking at my information on Princess' site to make sure it is correct.
